Teacher of Business Studies and Economics required from January 2016. This role is available as a full or part-time position. Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS) offers a unique blend of group and personal tuition. Our small classes, averaging just six students, encourage the in-depth acquisition of knowledge, the development of important examination and personal skills, and the deeper understanding that comes from regular interaction with experienced teachers. The ISI inspection conducted at the College in 2013 concluded that “CCSS provides a high quality educational experience” achieving its aim of providing an individual approach to every student. They rated teaching “good” and pastoral care “excellent”. Inspectors commended the high standards of students’ achievement, as well as the College’s substantial enrichment opportunities. Parents interviewed by ISI were particularly pleased about the range of subjects on offer and the help provided for students to make progress. Students commented that teachers are “always there for them”. Most pupils have one clear aim in mind when entering a sixth-form: taking up a university course that is appropriate for their future aspirations. CCSS takes its university preparation seriously: we prepare students not just academically through excellent teaching, but also socially and personally for the university years ahead. With close guidance from teachers and tutors, our students develop a greater sense of responsibility, respect for themselves and others, and confidence in their own abilities. From a teacher’s point of view there are significant attractions to working at CCSS. Classes are extraordinarily small, and this enables huge job satisfaction. A significant number of colleagues have been at CCSS for many years and this is a strength of the College. Teachers enjoy the experience of time for giving exceptional support, the time to focus on the individual, the opportunity to mark and review thoroughly. The year is structured around the examination season and we have unusually long summer breaks, although staff, of course, spend much time preparing and planning throughout. Colleagues are often to be found in College during holidays. The administrative support is first-rate: plentiful, inclined to take initiative, and invariably happy! Parents are very appreciative of the efforts made by CCSS staff. The remarkable ethos of the College is so different from, and better than, the typical school that it often leads to approving comment. Students come from all over the world, they respond fantastically to the atmosphere of trust and independence, and there is a tremendous sense of shared purpose. If you are invited to interview here I hope you get a sense of this ethos and are as inspired by it as the rest of us.
