RE: Donation to CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA
Since our inception in 2008, The Cows have gathered momentum from a group of 8 friends who
owned bicycles to 2009’s 140 strong-herd to last year’s incredible 300 crazy cows. Armed with their
‘Love Living Life’ slogan and a healthy dose of enthusiasm, the herd has enjoyed much success and
acclaim. Even Phil Liggett, British commentator for the Tour de France who covered the bike race,
couldn’t stop talking about “those crazy cows in their woolly suits”.
This year, The Cows continue to advance their mission of spreading The Love and changing lives.
The herd will be taking to the streets for the 2011 Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge with a peloton
of more than 300 cyclists dressed in Cow Suits with the joint aim of raising more than R4 million for
CHOC. CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA plays a key role in providing care for children
diagnosed with cancer across South Africa. It is a country wide organization that provides the
highest level of care required to treat childhood cancer in keeping with the latest developments
world-wide.
The funds raised for the 2011 Stampede will be used to improve childhood cancer awareness.
Statistics show that if childhood cancer is diagnosed early enough and treated correctly, the
majority of children (about 70%) can be cured. Currently only 50% of children are diagnosed and
reach a treatment centre in time. This translates into at least 600 children in South Africa dying
each year from cancer who could survive if they were diagnosed and treated early enough. With
2011 marking our fourth stampede, The Cows feel strongly the need to address the most pressing
issues facing CHOC and the Pediatric Oncologists across South Africa which undoubtedly is the
improvement in the survival rate of children diagnosed with cancer.
We would love to have your company join us in this journey to change the lives of children with
cancer. There are many options for companies to be involved:

Monetary donation - for tax exemptions, CHOC will provide the necessary Section 18A tax
certifications through their PBO registration (see below).

For brand coverage with The Cows we offer the option of an ice-cream bike kitted out with
your company’s branding. These bikes are ridden by our seasoned cows and create a
fantastic spectacle on race day. The ice-cream bike remains the property of your company
after the event. This option costs R25,000. In a nutshell, the benefit for your company would
be …
