Hi everyone, Welcome to the festive season. The Hamlyn Park Tennis Club Committee hopes that you all have a great Christmas and New Year, and that you all come back in 2013 for some more tennis. We especially hope that you get behind our Summer Tennis initiative where will have social tennis on a Wednesday evening accompanied by a free BBQ. See the separate notice for this event. In the meantime, we should let you know what’s been happening at your club. 2012 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The tennis club held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday 16th September 2012. We thought we would try a weekend lunchtime AGM rather than our usual night meeting. There was a BBQ catered for by the club and a welcome hit of tennis before the commencement of the meeting. During our meeting we discussed topics relating to the current works that have been undertaken at our clubrooms recently, the midweek ladies competition, our proposed fee structure for the current membership year of all playing members and social members and other general topics. Thanks were made to the outgoing committee members for the year 2011-2012 and the election of office bearers for the current 2012-2013 year was then undertaken. MIDWEEK LADIES COMPETITION We had two teams competing in Grades 6 and 7 in the second season of 2012 with both being highly competitive. OUR CLUB ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GATHERING The Christmas break up for the year was held at the club rooms on Saturday 8th December starting at 7.00 pm. About 70 people attended and a great night was had by all, with lots of tennis, lots of laughs, and lots of memories. Thanks to Janeene’s great efforts in approaching numerous local businesses, we had a great array of door prizes, auction goods, and lucky number prizes. A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT (delivered at the AGM) Hello & welcome to summer 2012 -2013. As the president I would like to say thank you to the all the current club members who hold positions on committees and the members who put there hands up every week to keep the club running. Special mention needs to go to the following: Cheryl (VP), Colin (Sec.), Brian (Treas.) for holding sometimes challenging but invaluable positions on the management committee. Without these 3 and Garry, Holly, Bill Cooper (seniors rep.) Judith king, for 2012 Janeene Barry for 2013 (Mid week Ladies), Deirdre Murphy (juniors) we would not have a club. In 2010 a review was undertaken by the COGG covering the sporting reserve, with a number of items noted that impacted the tennis club. During 2010 /11 resurfacing of courts 4 and 5, and removal of the train tracks was completed. And through 2012 the upgrade of our clubrooms took place. A new entrance and upgraded toilet facilities. The entry looks great and is a lot safer way to access the clubrooms. I would like to express my thanks to the COGG, Councilor Eddy Kontelj and all those associated with the master plan for their ongoing commitment. In closing I urge you all to use the clubs facilities, help create a social atmosphere and please enjoy your tennis. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR FUTURE NEWSLETTERS AND REMEMBER TO SUPPORT YOUR CLUB!
