CME Endorsed Resuscitation Providers
The College considers it important that all General Practitioners are proficient in
resuscitation.
Our current requirements are as follows:
1.
Fellows on MOPS
For Fellows of the College registered in the College Maintenance of Professional Standards
(MOPS) programme, a certificate of participation in a course offered through a RNZCGPendorsed provider, which meets the New Zealand Resuscitation Council standards for
resuscitation at level 5 or above, is required every three years. Courses must be a minimum of
four hours duration for a level 5 course or eight hours duration for a level 7 course (with
expected reading preparation of 4 hours in both cases).

Fellowship requirements
To achieve Fellowship of the College, a candidate must provide a certificate of competence in
resuscitation skills. This certificate must:
 Be not more than three years old at the date of the award of Fellowship;
 be from a RNZCGP-endorsed provider;
 be at level 5 or above of the New Zealand Resuscitation Council standards,
 include a statement of competence based on assessment; and
 should normally be a minimum of 6 hours duration (a ‘refresher’ course is not
sufficient), with expected reading preparation time of at least 4 hours.
3.
Registrars in training
Registrars in the GPEP programme are expected to maintain their proficiency in resuscitation
skills throughout their time in the programme. They should demonstrate this through the
holding of a certificate (attendance or competence), which is:
 not more than three years old,
 from a RNZCGP-endorsed resuscitation skills provider,
 be at level 5 or above of the New Zealand Resuscitation Council standards,
 a minimum of four hours duration for a level 5 course or eight hours duration for a
level 7 course (with expected reading preparation of 4 hours in both cases).
Note: Candidates ready to proceed to Fellowship assessment must hold a certificate of
competence in resuscitation skills, based on assessment (see 2 above) granted within three
years of the award of Fellowship.
4.
MOPS requirements for Fellows of the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine
are as follows:
 Participate in an RNZCGP endorsed ACLS resuscitation course to at least NZRC level 7
every triennium (regardless of when in the triennium the doctor joined the
programme); and
 Maintain EMST and APLS certification (every 5 years).
Notwithstanding, GP’s are encouraged to train to the level appropriate to their work situation.
In the MOPS 2011 – 2013 triennium:
 NZRC Level 5 Courses will be endorsed by the RNZCGP for 8 CME Credits
 NZRC Level 7 Courses will be endorsed by the RNZCGP for 12 CME Credits
