Abstract: Antimony-doped tin hydroxide colloid precipitates were prepared by hydrolysis of
SnCl4 center dot 5H(2)O and SbCl3 ethanol solutions. Isoamyl acetate was selected as
azeotropic drying solvent and was compared with the most commonly used n-butanol solvent on
treating precipitate for low hard agglomeration precursor powders. The FT-IR, BET, XRD, and
TEM results of the precursor powders and calcinated antimony-doped tin oxide powders were
recorded. The results demonstrate that isoamyl acetate is an excellent azeotropic drying solvent
that can effectively prevent the agglomeration of particles and greatly improve the fluffiness of
the obtained dried powders. After these precursor powders are calcined, antimony-doped tin
oxide nanopowders with tetragonal rutile structure and high dispersivity can be obtained.

Abstract: The reaction of antimony pentachloride and ethyl acetate under atmospheric
pressure chemical vapour deposition conditions leads to the production of antimony (III) oxide
thin films on glass and gas sensor substrates. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that
an island growth mechanism predominated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) revealed
binding energy shifts of 20.6 eV for O 2s and 35.4 eV for Sb 4d. The films were X-ray
amorphous. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA)
gave coherent elemental compositions indicating that single phase Sb2O3 was made, with
negligible impurity levels. The films showed little optical reflectance (similar to 10%) and 6575% total transmission from 400 to 800 nm. Gas sensing experiments indicated that the films
responded best to a reducing gas at 400 degrees C. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The effect of pH on the colloidal stability of aqueous dispersions containing
antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) Or indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles and poly(vinyl
acetate-acrylic) copolymer (PVAc-co-acrylic) latex particles was investigated using experimental
observations and Derjiaguin, Landau. Verwey and Overbeek (DLVO) theory. The microstructure,
electrical properties and optical properties of composite coatings prepared from various
dispersions were also studied. Zeta potential measurements revealed that the isoelectric point
(IEP) of ATO nanoparticles was below pH 2.0, that of ITO nanoparticles was at pH similar to 6.0
and that of PVAc-co-acrylic latex was at pH - 2.0. ATO/PVAc-co-acrylic dispersions prepared at
pH 3 were stable, but those prepared at pH 1.5 formed aggregates, which settled quickly with
time. DLVO theory predictions are in accord with these results. Stable ITO/PVAc-co-acrylic
dispersions are obtained at a pH of 3.0 and 11.0 but dispersions are not stable at a pH of 6.0.
the IEP of ITO. At a pH of 3.0, DLVO results predict attraction between ITO particles and latex
particles. Dispersion pH affected the microstructures laid properties of ATO (or ITO)/PVAc-coacrylic coatings. Suspensions that formed aggregates produced coatings with lower percolation
thresholds, aid lower transparencies than those produced from stable suspensions. (C) 2004

Title: Bismuth carboxylates as precursors for the incorporation of bismuth in oxidebased materials

Abstract: The use of bismuth(III) carboxylates (acetate, oxoacetate, lactate, oxalate) as
precursors for the incorporation of this element on oxide supports is evaluated as a new tool to
generate bismuth-based oxide phases at the surface of MoO3 or WO3 supports. These insoluble
precursors are deposited as small particles from a slurry in a liquid hydrocarbon under
appropriate experimental conditions, Bismuth molybdate and tungstate phases are produced by
solid-state reactions between in situ generated Bi2O3 and the supporting oxide at 673 K. The
samples are characterized by specific surface area measurements, X-ray diffractometry, and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy, The selective oxidation of isobutene to methacrolein is employed
as a reaction test to demonstrate the applicability of this approach, The use of precursors
containing lactate or acetate-type ligands is found to generate materials displaying enhanced
specific surface area and high bismuth-to-molybdenum surface atomic ratios. This bismuth
enrichment of the surface is indicative of the presence of dispersed crystallites of either Bi2O3
itself or ternary Bi-Mo-O or Bi-W-O phases, which are known to promote partial oxidation of
alkenes, The performances of these materials in the isobutene to methacrolein conversion are
indeed in most cases definitely better than those of the so-called reference materials obtained
from the simple mixtures of the same oxides prepared separately. (C) 1996 Academic Press,
