RACE NIGHTS
Free quizzes offered with each nights entertainment
Race nights may be for ‘Fun Money’ Or ‘Fund- Raisers’. many extras are
offered Including Jockey Silks, Rails and Own Bank Money.
Real money may be used only when the event is in aid of a CHARITY. Fun
money is used when the event is for ENTERTAINMENT.
Race Nights have grown in popularity since we started them . Recently we
have taken advantage of the new hi-tech systems now available. Out go oldfashioned 16mm Projectors and American Race Films; in come Super VHS
Video Systems with Full Colour British Horse Races. We pride ourselves on
our professional customer service and presentation.
The following explains how race nights can be organised. You will see that
we provide everything that is required to setup and run a successful event.
All you need to do is to provide the venue and the customers.
Our films, in full colour, are up to date; our horse races are British, run on the
flat and over jumps. We can also supply a mixture of greyhound, pig and
trotting races. All are very exciting.
Costs vary depending on individual requirements, but a usual package
includes all Screens/Monitors, Race Films, Sound System, Customised Race
Cards, Tote Tickets and Compere; plus all the help we can give from
beginning to end to help you make your event as successful as possible.
We also include various free extras eg: a TOTE TRI-CAST CARD. Each
square on the card represents every number combination of 1st, 2nd & 3rd in a
given race. For a charity event, each square on the card can be sold for
£1.00, raising a total £336.00. If you provide a single £150.00 prize, this will
earn your fund an extra £186.00, and in doing so, almost cover your expenses.
Free Visual Music is played between ther races — Audience participation is
encouraged. A free Quiz is also provided on request.
SOMETHING REALLY DIFFERENT - PORKERS TAKE TO THE RACETRACK!
For the first time in England, we have now added a programme of International
pig races to our race selection. All the pig races are filmed in Ireland under
RSPCA supervision. The pigs are real show-stealers, with names like Trotsky,
Rasher Dasher and The Squealer. They provide great entertainment for all,
especially at fund raising events where younger people might be present.
We also have a brand new selection of full colour, modern TROTTING RACES
(HARNESS RACING) in our film library. These were filmed in Octobcr 2001 on
the beautiful island of Malta. They are very exciting, with really close
finishes.
Race nights may also be combined with a casino, disco, quiz night or karaoke.
A Horse Race Night involves the showing of 8 exciting Race Films on
television monitors or Giant LCD screen in your chosen venue, giving
your guests the opportunity to place fun bets on those races. For some
people a Race Night is an area that has not been explored when trying
to organise a Fund Raising or Entertainment event for Charity.
Race Nights are one of the most popular and cost-effective fund-raising
methods on the market. They are the perfect way to raise funds for
your Sports Section, Social Club, School Fund or Charity.
We supply all the films, each showing a single race. They are filmed in
full colour, with commentary by one of Britain’s top racing
commentators.
The race films each have 8 horses identified by numbers between 1 and
8. Your guests bet on whichever numbered horse they think will win.
You run the Tote (the betting desk) selling the tickets, taking a
percentage out of the betting for your fund.
The operation of the evening is quite straightforward. Before the Race
Night begins, we will explain to you the simple way in which the Tote
operates, or we can run the Tote on your behalf. We will welcome vour
guests and explain the event to them. The Tote Desk is then opened.
The money collected is split between the fund-raiser and the winners.
An example of the money raised from the tote is as follows.~
IN RACE ONE
Horse I sells
Horse 2 sells
Horse 3 sells
Horse 4 sells
Horse 5 sells
Horse 6 sells
Horse 7 sells
Horse 8 sells
10 tickets at~ 50p
8 tickets a 50p
16 tickets a 5Op
6 tickets 50p
15 tickets a 5Op
16 tickets a 50p
I8 tickets a 5Op
I5 tickels a 50p
=£5.00
= £4.00
= £8.00
=£3.00
= £7.50
= £8.00
= £9.00
= £7.50
A TOTAL OF £52.00
If in the above example race takings are split 50/50 then the fund-raiser
would make £26.00) and the w inning ticket holders would share £26.00.
If Horse 2 wins this would be £26.00 split between 8 people, which equals
£3.25 each. If Horse I wins then there would be 10 winning tickets with
a pay-out of £2.60 each.
And this is just the first of Eight Races!
Tickets can be sold at whatever price you decide and the split between
fund-raiser and ~wlnning ticket holders can be betweeii 10% and 50%.
Allow about ten to twenty minutes to pass, while betting takes place for
the next race, then its lights down and we are OFF again.
TRI-CAST
This is usually based on Race Six. You
will be given an A3 card listing
every possible combination of and 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Each of the
336 combinations is sold prior to the event at £ I .00 per time, raising an
additional £336.00. This will give you £186.00 towards your fund raising
with a JACKPOT of £150.00 being paid to the winner.
DUAL FORECAST
An alternative to the Tri—Cast Card more suitable for smaller
gatherings. The Dual-Forecast card lists every combination of 1st and
2nd places in any chosen race. Each of the 56 combinations can be sold
for £1.00 per time, raising an additional £56.00.
The proceeds are usually split 50/50 between the fund and the winner.
THE AUCTION
Always carried out on the last race. This is where the Compere auctions
ofF all the horses to the highest bidders. The proceeds are split between
winners and fund-raisers. This often adds a surprising amount to the
money already raised.
Race cards are the basis of your fund raising – we are happy to
supply them free of charge.
The race card lists sponsors names, owners names, the races to be run
and the numbers and names of the horses. Prepared properly it can
cover the cost of your event and more in advance of the function.
Sponsors. You can get local firms or people to sponsor each of the 8
races for say £10 to £25 or even £50. Thev can have the race named
after them. Eg: the Joe Bloggs Plumbers Stakes, sponsored by Joe
Bloggs.
Horse Ownership. Anybodv can become a horse owner for say £3.00 to
£5.00. Their name and choice of horse name will be shown in the race
card. If their horse wins they will win a cash prize or any prize you
decide upon.
Buy a Jockey. All are encouraged to buy a jockev for between £2 and
£4. Again prizes as above eg: a cash prize or a bottle of wine.
If you send us details of sponsors and owner’s names, we will custom
print the race card for you, subject to the time factor.
If the Race Night is for a Pub or Club or for entertainment purposes
only and you do not wish to organise the race card beforehand, we will
supply a Mock race card and horse sales etc. All can be done on the
night.
Apart from fund-raising, Race Nights are an ideal
entertainment for Public Houses, Hotels. Holiday Camps, and
Corporate Events.
RACE NIGHTS AND THE LAW
It is quite legal for a company, club or association to organise a Race Night
with prizes within the Amusements & Small Lotteries Act 1976, providing the
following relevant details are adhered to:
1 A race night with prizes is NOT gambling; it is a form of raffle. Guests are
invited to buy tickets on a particular horse number. They do this without any
knowledge of the outcome of the race, or any prior knowledge of the result. It
is only after all tickets have been sold for the next race, that it is announced
quite clearly that there will be no more tickets for that race. Then the film for
the race can be chosen from a selection by a member of the audience. This is
why it is likened to a raffle, but the winning tickets are chosen by mechanical
means (i.e. the showing of a race film). This is unlike betting and gambling,
where form, fitness and conditions are taken into account, and odds
negotiated with a bookmaker.
2 The race night must NOT be the sole attraction at the event. You must
provide other forms of attraction, eg: a supper or buffet, music for dancing,
entertainment, etc. To comply with this rule, we as a matter of course provide
Visual Music for dancing before, between and after races. Alternatively we
show sport or outtake films.
3 The club or association must hold the race night in premises to which the
general public do not have unrestricted access.
4 Any advertising for the event must be restricted to the club
meeting place or workplace.
5 The proceeds must be for the benefit of the club or association,
and no individuals may benefit by personal gain.
6 Although all ages can attend, tickets must not be sold to any person
under 16 years of age. The person who purchases the ticket must collect
the prize personally. Tickets must not be sold by post. All raffle (tote)
tickets must be sold at the same price, so that no person has an unfair
advantage
.
We describe the event to your guests in detail before we start, emphasising
details, and generally make sure that the event is managed responsibly.
As you will realize, I am not able to list the entire details of the Act so
explanations of the important points will help you in organising the event.
