Invitation to OxPASS x CUHKCAS Charity Dinner
Dear Alumni,
On behalf of the Oxford Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Services Society
(OxPASS) and Cambridge University Hong Kong and China Affairs Society (CUHKCAS), it
is our great pleasure to invite you to our upcoming OxPASS x CUHKCAS Charity Dinner
in support of the local charity, Society for Community Organization (香港社區組織協會
) on Thursday 9th, January 2014 at the Chater Room, Hong Kong Jockey Club Happy
Valley Clubhouse, Shan Kwong Road. Drinks reception will begin at 6:30pm and dinner
will be served at 7:30pm.
OxPASS is a student society at the University of Oxford that strives to raise
awareness of Hong Kong public affairs and promote students’ involvement in community
services. The society is privileged to have Lord Patten of Barnes CH as its Honorary Patron.
OxPASS organizes a Model Legislative Council, current affairs forums and various
fundraising endeavors to benefit the student and wider community. CUHKCAS is a student
society at the University of Cambridge that aims to raise awareness of economic, social and
political affairs in Hong Kong and China. The society seeks to develop communication and
exchange between the East and the West, enlightening minds on key issues that the region is
currently facing via debates, in-depth discussions and exchange trips. Founded in 1990,
CUHKCAS has over 1,000 life members, with Sir David Kwok Po Li and the Rt. Hon. the
Lord Wilson of Tillyorn as Honorary Patrons.
Our vision for the OxPASS x CUHKCAS Charity Dinner is to raise funds in support
of the Society for Community Organization (SoCO) whilst bringing together alumni and
current Hong Kong students from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The
meaningful and memorable evening will feature a range of exciting events, from spectacular
performances by our student acapella groups, a silent auction, to a raffle draw of
thrilling prizes. We are also grateful to have, as the Honorable Guest Speaker, Professor
Joseph Sung (沈祖堯), SBS, JP, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
As we are striving to raise awareness of our societies' endeavors beyond the student body,
we would welcome alumni and their guests to join us for the evening. This will be the
perfect occasion for alumni to get together in support of a meaningful cause, and to mix
with some of our current students.
The beneficiary of the dinner, SoCO (Society for Community Organisation, 香港
is a non-profit-making and non-governmental welfare organization
established in 1972 that assists the underprivileged in Hong Kong and fights for their social
rights through various grassroots projects. Some of their target groups include those living in
社區組織協會),

caged homes, new immigrants, children living in poverty, the homeless, and the neglected
elderly. All proceeds will be donated towards their Community Learning Centre that offers
over 1000 disadvantaged children in Sham Shui Po with free study support, interest classes,
and study. We feel that this project is consistent with the values we wish to promote and so
we seek to bring attention to the difficult situation many disadvantaged children face.
We would be absolutely delighted if you were able to accept our invitation. We do
believe it will be a great occasion to facilitate bonding between current students and alumni,
all the while supporting a worthwhile cause. We hope you will also consider contributing to
this by sponsoring words of encouragements in our event booklet. Thank you very much for
your kind consideration, and we look forward to your reply. Please do not hesitate to
contact us as nicole.chui@keble.ox.ac.uk or vkwc2@cam.ac.uk should you have any queries
or wish to discuss the matter further.
Yours sincerely,
