CATEGORY A EVENTS TECHNICAL AND DISPLAY 1. Electronic Troupe Display Event a maximum 2 minute DVD / quicktime movie / Iphoto slideshow / of your troupe's past years' events. 2. Costume Building Event A. Pick a team of 1 to 5 students, including a model, to participate in this event. B. A theme will be announced at the conference. Approximately 30 minutes will be given for creation of the costume. No part of the costume may be prefabricated prior to the conference. C. The costumes will then be modeled for the audience. D. The model(s) must wear a black outfit covering arms and legs, such as a leotard, sweat suit, jeans, t-shirt. E. Each team must bring the following items to help construct the costume: scissors, staplers, safety pins, masking tape, scotch tape, rubber bands, magic markers. F. Each team must bring the following items to use to make the costume: one skein of yarn, 3 yards of material, 4 sheets of construction paper, 2 pie pans, 4 paper plates, 5 yards of aluminum foil, 10 pipe cleaners, 1 yard of ribbon, one item of the team's choice (may NOT be an article of clothing, a wig, or a mask), four plastic trash bags. G. Only the above items may be used to create the costume. H. The above items may be carried in a container of the team's choice. However, that container may not be used as a part of the costume. I. A quality costume would exhibit: creative use of materials, appropriateness to theme, and show originality in the design. 4. Makeup Event A. Select from 1 to 3 students to create a character through makeup (including the person to be made up). B. A theme will be announced at the conference. No prosthetics may be prefabricated prior to the conference. C. The team will be given approximately 30 minutes to create the makeup. D. Each team should bring a full makeup kit including: bases, rouges, colored liners, eye makeup, spirit gum, crepe hair, makeup remover, makeup brushes, scissors, mirror, hair color sprays, stage blood, clown white, hair pieces, wigs, etc. E. The final creations will be modeled for the audience. F. A quality creation would exhibit: creative use of materials, appropriateness to the theme, originality of design, and good technical application. CATEGORY B SHOWCASE EVENTS PERFORMANCE 8. Monologue Event A. Select one student to perform. B. The student should prepare a 2 minute monologue using material from a published play (not a musical). Appropriateness of the content for the conference audience must be considered. C. A quality performance would exhibit: evident interpretation, voice (projection, quality), vocal characterization, and physical characterization. 9. Solo/Duet Show Tune Event A. Pick a show tune and be prepared to sing it during the conference. B. Your presentation may be given by one or two of your members. C. Accompaniment music may be on tape that is music only, containing no vocals, or you may provide an accompanist. D. Accapella performances are NOT permitted. E. Your performance is limited to 3 minutes, so edit your music accordingly. F.All songs MUST be from theatrical shows, NOT movies. G. A quality performance would exhibit: good vocal quality (pitch, projection), clear diction, evident interpretation, entertaining overall presentation. 10. Solo/Duet Show Dance Event A. Pick a theatrical show number and choreograph a dance for it to be presented during the conference. B. Your dance should feature one or two of your members. C. Any accompaniment music may be on CD or tape, or you may provide an accompanist. Music containing vocals is permitted. D. Your performance is limited to 3 minutes, so edit your music accordingly. E. All songs MUST be from theatrical shows, NOT movies. F. Costumes appropriate to the song should be worn. G. A quality performance would exhibit: expression of a mood, outstanding technique, correct timing, interpretation of the music, entertaining overall presentation. 11. Group Show Dance Event A. Pick a theatrical show number and choreograph a dance for it to be presented during the conference. B. Your dance may feature as many of your members as you choose. C. Any accompaniment music may be on CD or tape, or you may provide an accompanist. Music containing vocals is permitted. D. Your performance is limited to 4 minutes, so edit your music accordingly. E. All songs MUST be from theatricals shows, NOT movies. F. Costumes appropriate to the song should be worn. G. A quality performance would exhibit: group precision, expression of a mood, outstanding techinque, correct timing, interpretation of the music, entertaining overall presentation. 12. Production Number Event A. Pick a theatrical show number and be prepared to sing and dance to it. B. Your number may feature one or as many of your members as you choose. C. All accompaniment music may be on CD or tape that is music only, containing no vocals, or you may provide an accompanist. Accapella presentations are not permitted. D. Your performance is limited to a maximum of 5 minutes, so edit your music accordingly. E. All songs MUST be from theatrical shows, NOT movies. F. Costumes appropriate to the song should be worn. G. a quality performance would exhibit: expression of a mood, appropriate choreography/movement, outstanding technique, correct timing, interpretation of the music, and an entertaining overall presentation.
