Notes
(1) Grading options: up to 10 units of courses taken in the Philosophy department may be taken CR/NC or S/NS; the remainder must be taken for a letter grade.
(2) Approval: the program of courses (especially sections XII and XIII) must be approved BOTH by the Director of Undergraduate Studies of Philosophy AND by the Undergraduate Advisor for the Major
Tracks in Philosophical and Literary Thought.
(3) Transfer credit: a maximum of 15 transfer units may be counted toward the major, at most 10 of which may substitute for Phil 80 or 81, and none of which should normally substitute for courses in
sections III, IV, V, VI, IX.
(4) Independent Work: units for Honors Tutorial, Directed Reading, the Dualist, or Honors Seminar may not be counted toward the 65-unit requirement.
(5) Electives: Philosophy electives must be philosophy department courses.
(6) Capstone seminars: in some cases, with approval of both directors of undergraduate studies, the same course may be used to meet requirements IX and XIII simultaneously.
PLEASE GIVE ONE COPY OF THIS FORM TO EACH DIRECTOR OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES.
