You are cordially invited to attend the Stark County Suicide Prevention Coalition’s Annual Suicide Prevention Conference. This year’s conference is in response to the requests of the conference attendees in 2012 who asked that more treatment issues be included as a major component of a future conference. Cost of the conference is $75 for each participant, which includes lunch, continental breakfast and snacks, materials, and continuing education units. Conference participants will be able to: Identify the issues facing at-risk populations of military and their families, victims of trauma, and individuals with substance abuse/dependence issues. Understand trauma, the types of trauma, and its impact on individuals who have experienced traumatic experiences. Recognize signs and symptoms of depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicide risk among at-risk populations of military, victims of trauma, and individuals with substance abuse/dependence issues. Recognize the frequency of suicidal behaviors in at-risk populations of military, victims of trauma, and individuals with substance abuse/dependence issues. Identify intervention/treatment strategies to help prevent and reduce suicide in at-risk populations of military, victims of trauma, and individuals with substance abuse/dependence issues. Presenters: Cherry and James, both of whom have experienced suicidal behaviors and have successfully addressed them in their recovery process, will share their stories of hope and recovery. Dr. Josephine Ridley is a licensed clinical psychologist and Program Manager for the Psychiatry Day Hospital at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. She has served on the VA’s Psychology Training Committee for multiple years. She is published in the area of anxiety disorders and is currently conducting research on depression. Kim Kroh has worked the past 13 years at the American Red Cross Rape Crisis Services, assisting children, adolescents and adults through the difficult process of sexual victimization. She has also worked with children and adults on grief issues from death and divorce and with adolescents who have severe behavioral problems and mental health issues. A licensed professional clinical counselor with supervisor status, she also sees clients in a private practice. Wendy Hunter is the Director of Program Development and Supervision at Quest Recovery and Prevention Services. A licensed professional clinical counselor with supervisor status, she also worked more than 10 years at the Domestic Violence Project, Inc., serving as Clinical Director and Interim Executive Director. 5.5 CEU’s are pending approval through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board and 5.5 RCH’s are pending through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board. .
