The William Alanson White Institute The William Alanson White Institute is an internationally renowned, nonprofit psychoanalytic and psychotherapy center that provides clinical services, advanced professional training, and outreach programs to New York City and surrounding communities. Directed by Jorge Bose, the Institute, from its inception, has been attentive to culture as an integral aspect of psychotherapeutic endeavors, particularly when the therapist and client come from different cultural backgrounds and experiences. Years before “globalization”—with its increasing contact between people of different nationalities—became a buzzword, Interpersonal pioneers such as Erich Fromm and Frieda Fromm-Reichmann were sensitive to the importance of cultural differences in dynamic treatment. These two founders of the White Institute understood that such sensibility is a requirement for working with clients from different cultures. Who should attend: This conference is designed for those who work within the mental health field with bilingual and bicultural patients. Though the clinical issues discussed will center on psychotherapy with Hispanic/Latino patients and therapists, the key issues addressed will concern core dynamics regarding the impact of bilingualism on the therapeutic process, as well as exploration of identity issues, taking into account key aspects of transference and countertransference patterns in treatment. CE credits: This conference meets the qualifications for 5 hours of continuing education credit. The William Alanson White Institute is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. The Institute maintains responsibility for the program. Credits are awarded on a per course-hour basis. The White Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor Continuing Medical Education for physicians and designates this CME activity for Category I of the Physicians Recognition Award. It is the policy that faculty and sponsors disclose real or apparent conflicts of interest relating to the topics of this educational activity and also disclose discussions of unlabeled/unapproved uses of drugs or devices during their presentation(s). The White Institute is an approved provider of Continuing Education under the auspices of the Continuing Education Program of the New York State Chapter of the NASW.
