Create an Alien
“Sci-fi TV these days seems to be pretty devoid of very imaginative aliens. They are almost
always humanoid, or at least bipedal with the same usual array of sensory organs that we have
come to know and expect here on earth. So, for the interests of science fiction writing with a
pulse, lets see if we can come up with imaginative, original aliens, instead of the standard fare
ie. they don't necessarily all have to be intelligent.”
In other words, you are going to create an alien that will live on one of the objects in our
solar system that you will draw from a hat (planets, asteroids, moon, sun, comets). You will
construct a model, poster or other form of presentation (puppets, acting, costume?) to present
your alien to the class. You must also include a labeled diagram of the structural and
behavioural adaptations of your alien and detailed explanations of the following:





name of alien species
temperature of the object ie. night and day
geophysical conditions of the object ie. rocks, atmosphere
seasons ie. orbit length, distance from Sun, if it is an inner or outer planet, etc.
what does the alien see at night? during the day? (rings, moons, rotation,
length of day)
 gravitational pull of the alien on the object
 graph or chart comparing conditions and characteristics to Earth
The presentations will be on Tuesday.
You can work by yourself or in a group of no more than two.
