Housecalls
Rev. Tim House
Hello everyone, and welcome to a new church year. I am delighted that I have
been chosen to serve as your “Sunday Preacher” this year, and I look forward
working with all of you on inspiring, thought provoking, and uplifting worship
services. I’m sure you know what a dedicated and talented Worship and Music
Committee you have. In collaboration with them, and with your super Director of
Religious Education Becky Paul, we’ll aim to make every Sunday Service one
you’re glad you didn’t miss.
We’re also working on the possibility of having some kind of Adult Religious Education
opportunities open to you from time to time, and I’d be happy to hear anyone’s input on the kind of
topics that interest you right now. You can always reach me at my email address
house.calls@verizon.net . Keep your eye on the newsletter, and we’ll provide more information as
we get a better sense of dates and scheduling ideas.
By way of introducing myself, here are a few tidbits from my life. I was an actor, theatre director,
and college teacher in my old life. I taught at Emerson College in Boston for 20 plus years – full- and
part-time - both in the Division of Performing Arts and the Division of Writing, Literature & Publishing.
In May of 2009, I received my Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological
School. I completed my two-year ministerial internship at First Church in Boston in June, and was
the summer minister at the UU Congregation of Reading in July and August of 2010. I was
ordained at First Church in Boston May 22, 2011, and welcomed into preliminary fellowship at
General Assembly in Charlotte NC in June. I’m thrilled to become a UU minister before getting too
old to remember where I put my glasses.
I’m married to Ann Gary, who is on the board of the UU Partner Church Council. We have a 16
year-old son, Alex, who is a very good epee fencer, and an eight year-old Australian terrier, Baci,
who’s a very good eater and barker.
I’m especially interested in people and their stories. We need to tell one another our stories and
listen deeply to the stories of others. I’m also interested in spirituality and the arts, and hope to find
ways to use the many forms of applied, performance, and language arts to open some pathways for
sensing and expressing how we are connected to this great mystery of life and love, and “being.”
In my mind, stories and community are what it’s all about, and so it’ll be great to meet the many of
you that I haven’t yet met at the coffee hour after church, and start getting to know some of your
stories. Until then, enjoy the rest of the summer.
Until then, L’Chaim – “To Life!” -
- Tim
Religious Education Program
It is the mission of our program to nurture and minister to the children and
youth of our church community by:
Actively engaging in the process of forming spiritual values and beliefs;
Building an intergenerational church family where we all care for and nurture
one another.
Celebrating and affirming the Principles and Purposes of Unitarian
Universalism.
Our program is available to children and youth from grades K - 12. It encompasses a
variety of activities including Sunday classes, intergenerational worship, family events
and social service projects. Child care is available for infants, toddlers and preschool
aged children. Our thanks to Sara Carter for her continued service as our child care
provider.
Rev. House will be in the pulpit twice a month and the children will begin in church
with their families on those days. A schedule will be posted on the RE board.

Session II – Nov 13 – Dec 18

which will transform the stairwell leading to the RE classrooms. We’re very excited to
offer these as part of our program this year and welcome any and all members who
would like to indulge their musical and or artistic talents to join in on the fun!
Please see Becky Paul for details or questions.

Do we have your family’s birthdays or anniversaries? If not, please take a minute to send them in.
Mail us, email us or leave a note in the office next time you’re at church.
We want to make sure that we list the birthdays and anniversaries of everyone in our church family.
Thank you!
See A Penny, Pick It Up!!
We will be starting a new year of penny racing October 2nd!
Anyone can enter the race for $1 entry fee. There will be two teams competing to raise the most
pennies. Each team will have their own bottle located in Channing Hall and anyone can place
change or dollars in either container. Each penny counts as one point but any silver coins or dollar
bills count against the team.
For example, if Team A has one quarter and Team B has 25 pennies, Team B is the winner
because Team A has minus 25 points. Our race will end January 15 th and the team with the most
points will be served Hot Chocolate and S’mores by the losing team.
So start saving your change and if you see a penny, PICK IT UP, it just might bring your team
GOOD LUCK!!
House and Grounds is in the planning and development
stages of replacing our church sign with a new sign/message
board. Our projections indicate that it will cost more than
what is already funded. To make a donation towards our
new sign, please make out your check to Channing Church
and note on your check that it is for “signage”.
