1. An essay, typed and double spaced, which explains your motivation to seek the degree for which you are
requesting assistance. Your essay should also elaborate on the personal attributes which you feel qualify
you for this degree, your need for financial aid and your efforts to assist yourself, and your contributions
and feelings towards Sigma Phi. And, if you received a Viele grant last year, please briefly describe how it
helped you in the pursuit of your degree (3 pages maximum).
2. One letter of recommendation from someone other than a relative or Active brother commenting on your
character and standing in the community.
3. An estimate of costs to be incurred in the pursuit of the degree for which you are requesting assistance as
published by the educational institution which you will, or are most likely to attend. (Please photocopy the
appropriate catalogue page.)
4. A copy of your most recent college transcript. Freshmen should submit copies of final high school
transcripts. New graduate students should submit copies of final undergraduates transcripts. If you are
nominated for an award, you will be asked to sign a waiver for transcripts to be mailed directly to the
Trustee during the award year.
5. A written confirmation from the college which you will attend stating that you are in good standing and
eligible to be enrolled for work toward the degree you are pursuing. If you are transferring, or are applying
to graduate school and have not been accepted yet, you will be required to present such evidence as soon as
