Plus Guest All Day Judge is Jenny Pitman OBE IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING Please note that the planned AUGUST SHOW IS NOW CANCELLED. This July Show will be the only show we are holding this year. Sadly, due to losing many of our sponsors who have very generously donated money since the very first show, the lack of funding means that this year has forced us to cancel the August show, and even at the time of printing of this schedule, the July show is still lacking funds although will definitely go ahead. We do have more than enough sponsors, but still have costs to pay for toilet hire, printing, advertising costs, etc. so if anyone reading this schedule who is or isn’t competing, would like to make a donation, we would be extremely grateful. As you can appreciate, there aren’t many people who realistically want their donation being used for toilet hire! Unfortunately it’s getting harder each year to raise the money needed to hold the shows so can I ask now, that if anyone would like to sponsor a class(es) next year, then do please let us know. If you enjoy yourself on the day, then how about leaving £20 with us to sponsor a class in your name (or your horses, or a business name) for next year? Sadly, if we don’t get enough sponsorship or donations in early enough next year, we will have to re-think about organising any future shows. As you can appreciate, the show does take up a lot of time and effort and with just myself and my sister Kerry organising the whole thing, and relying on family and friends to help us out on the day, it would be one less worry if we knew that we were assured of the money coming in to organise the following years show. So in view of this show being the only one this year, we have included more classes for everyone and more prizes on offer too. You will have seen on the first page some of the prizes, but when you look through the schedule itself, you will see that every class winner gets a prize to take home with them, plus in some classes, prizes are awarded to runners-up too. We’ve been lucky this year that not only do we have the usual toiletries, chocolate, wines, cuddly toy, etc, but we’ve also been generously given other prizes ranging from a bottle of whiskey through to horse feed from Dodson & Horrell and Baileys, plus Newmarket Racecourses have generously donated a pair of tickets to the races. On top of that, we also have prizes from a number of racing trainers. Consequently the August show which usually has all the Challenge Trophies up for grabs, will now all be awarded in this show – and if you haven’t seen the trophies before, well – believe me, they are trophies you would be very proud to display for the time they are in your possession. We have even more new ones on offer this year. We believe we are the only show that offers each competitor so much to win. Providing you pre-enter – you will be guaranteed a commemorative rosette in the TB ring from Tattersalls, plus the All Other Breeds ring competitors will receive a rosette from Lay Soft Equine Bedding (Ron Hull & Sons Farms, Doncaster). It’s their way of thanking competitors for supporting this charity show. Your equine who is naturally the star of the show, will also receive a packet of polos (courtesy of Bookers, Cambridge). Just make sure you get your entry in by July 5 th to be guaranteed these. We’ve also been very lucky to be offered an original watercolour from world-renowned artist Jacquie Jones, plus Eddie Ahern has got his fellow jockeys to autograph a pair of breeches. These, plus a Coolmore/Ballydoyle Jacket generously given to us by Aidan O’Brian, will be auctioned after the show itself to hopefully raise more money for the chosen charities. We have yet again been fortunate enough to get some brilliant judges in for the day – all of them who are Panel Judges with the various societies, or in the case of Jenny Pitman OBE, who not only is a racing legend and author, but is also the President of the Ponies Association (UK), but during the day we will be having guest judges popping in, ranging from bloodstock agents, stud owners, jockeys, racing trainers, and anyone else we have managed to persuade. Now we need something from you! Anyone got a large tent, small marquee or gazebo which can be used to accommodate our judges and guest judges for a well-deserved break during the day. If you have and would be willing to erect it for us a couple of days before the show, then do please contact us immediately. For those wanting to come but need overnight stabling – we have organised this at £20 per stable. Contact me if you want details. The stables are in the middle of Newmarket – less than 10 minutes from the show ground. So read the schedule and enter immediately. Classes will be limited for safety reasons. Wishing you a good day. Stallions and colts are welcome in all the classes BUT any bad behaviour will result in exhibits being asked to leave the showground. Please phone beforehand if you are pre-entered, but are then unable to attend – so we’re not holding the show up thinking you are on your way. Please note, judges breaks will be at their discretion, but we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible to competitors before the judges break for refreshments. NOTES Firstly, we are delighted to have been asked again to be part of the 2011 Newmarket Festival celebrations. We hope you will support our show and anything else around the town during Festival Week. Even with the cancellation of the August show this year, we are aiming to give a big a donation as we can to the various charities we are supporting today, including AHT, Cancer Charities and Thoroughbred/Jockey/Welfare. As has always been our policy, we aim to make sure every single competitor goes home with at least one rosette. All our judges for this show are top judges and we hope you respect their decision on the day. Would TB exhibits please ensure that they give the correct information when entering their classes. See Ring details. For those Arabs that have raced, please make sure you mention this on your entry form. Would ALL exhibitors please make sure that your entry form is completed IN BLOCK CAPITALS to allow us to read the relevant information given by you. Can we also ask that if you have an unusual spelt horses name (i.e. Arab or Welsh for example), perhaps you could phonetically write it down (i.e. write down how to pronounce it), so that their name is read out correctly. The same also applies to any competitors names. A legible contact phone number or email address must be given on your entry form. For those competitors in classes 14 and 28 – would you please make sure you put your relevant work details if eligible for this class 14, or race details of your Arab (class 28). There will be a photographer on site – Eastern Light Photography (www.easternlightphotos.com) where you will be able to view/order your photos. Catering again this year will be done by my own business – KC SNAX. Feel free to view the website to look at the menu to see what is on offer during the day (www.kcsnax.co.uk). Kerry will again be the griddle cook, ably assisted by our other sister Glynis. If you are local to Newmarket, you would be very welcome to drop your entry forms off to us at our regular pitch. You can find us most days (except Monday and Tuesday) covering from 8.30am through to 2pm at Studlands Retail Park (where Homebase, Halfords, etc are) opposite the Burger King Entrance. We are located just outside the Pets At Home store. Do come and say hello. There will again be a tack shop on site (www.rearingtogo.co.uk) so if anyone wants anything on the day or for you to order from them for the day, do get in contact with them. Sergio Muelle AWCF will also be on site offering you a choice of having your own horses shoes made into gifts. He will have goods on site to sell ranging from things like candle holders, wine racks, etc all made from horseshoes. Aimee Poppins (Pet Sitting) will also be on site for the day with details of the services she has to offer your pets around the local area. We hope to be able to get a few more trade stands but awaiting confirmation at the time of going to print. SOS Dog Rescue (Newmarket Branch) will also have a stand. This is a local dog rescue which takes in strays and any dog in danger of being put down. We ourselves have re-homed one of these strays – who is now part of our family. If you have monetary donations or spare dog bowls, blankets, collars, leads, etc. – they would welcome any of these on the day. Mobile toilets are supplied by Jimmy Riddles and we ask you to keep them in a good clean order. Vets from Rossdales will be on call during the day and medical services will be available. We will be asking for a minimum of 50p to all cars coming through the gates without towing a trailer. This money will be going into the pot to be shared between the various charities. Walk-in spectators to make a donation please. If you know of anyone who may be willing to help out as a steward or helper on either of the days, then do please let us know now. Even an hour would be helpful and give those who have already kindly volunteered to help us out, a break. All you would need to do is perhaps open gates for the horses to come through to the rings, or act as a runner (i.e. take rosettes and trophies to the ring steward, or take a collecting tin around the ground). If anyone wants to hire a P.A. system at any time, the system in use today is available for hire at any time. As far as tannoy announcements go, we have discovered over the past couple of years that unfortunately the PA system doesn’t work as well as we would have hoped on the showground, because there are a number of satellite dishes around the paddocks which means our loudspeakers seem to not only bounce off of them but also off of the horseboxes parked in front of them, so please bear this in mind that the announcements may be distorted or not too loud, so it is your responsibility to listen out or to look out for what classes are going on. If you miss your class, then unfortunately we cannot refund any entry fee. We must of course say a very big THANK YOU particularly to our TB ring sponsor today – Tattersalls Limited for the TB ring. Tattersalls have supported us from the very beginning and without them, the show wouldn’t even get off of the ground. And of course, each and every sponsor and donator, whether it be money, prizes, or donations must be thanked enormously – and I hope that any sponsor who makes an appearance in the rings on the day to present their awards, may get a word of thanks from those competitors accepting the awards – as without these people – the show would definitely not be going ahead. As you can see from the schedule though, we do need some more Challenge Trophies being put up to win in the All Other Breeds ring. If any person or business would like to offer one for next year, do please get in touch now. So here’s a list of sponsors and donators at the time of going to print. We hope at some time in the future you could make use of their services. If we receive any more donations or prizes before the show, then we will update this following list immediately. A special thank you to those donators who haven’t sponsored a class, but have given us money to use towards advertising and printings costs – thanks – we really do appreciate this. Generous commission given to all charity events. Phone 07724 069766 or contact Colleen or Kerry. *************************** ATTENTION RACING PEOPLE LEAD HORSE/TRAINERS HACK AVAILABLE TO LOAN Our 9 year old gelding is back home again after finishing his last tour of duty! A number of trainers have made use of his quiet relaxed temperament to lead out youngsters or unruly colts (or fillies), teach them how to lead into stalls and led them along the roads. He is back home with us now and bored of not being worked, so if any trainer could make use of him and make him very happy, then do let us know. It is a racing routine he loves, so whether it’s in Newmarket or further afield, providing you look after him and he’s happy, he can stay for as long as he is needed. References available from a number of trainers. He raced 29 times on the flat and retired through injury, but is healthy and well and is capable of all work except racing itself. He gets fit very quickly. Contact Colleen or Kerry ENTRY FORM – JULY 2011 Please use One Entry Form per Horse (First Aid Cover of £1 applies to competitor not per horse).
