Chapter 1 Geometry – Mrs. Bervig Chapter 1 Assignment Sheet 8/22 Section 1-1: in this section we will learn about some of the basic building blocks of geometry — points, lines, and planes. We will begin to build geometric vocabulary and learn to identify and describe certain geometric objects using the proper terminology. Vocabulary: point, line, plane, collinear, coplanar, undefined terms, space. Assignment: pp. 9-11: 13-18 all, 21-63 by 3’s (eliminate #51) 8/25 Section 1-2: In this section we will discuss the concept of measuring from a geometric viewpoint. We will continue to build vocabulary and we will learn how many geometric terms are misused in everyday conversation. Vocabulary: line segment, precision, betweenness, congruent, relative error. Assignment: pp. 16-19: 12-27 by 3’s, 58-61 all 8/26 Section 1-2 (cont.): Here we will continue to look at measurement and we will concentrate on the concept of betweenness. We will also look at some geometric notation for measuring. Assignment: pp. 16-19: 42-57 by 3’s (eliminate 51), 62, 64 8/27 Section 1-3: In this section we will look at line segments more closely and we will learn how to find the distance between two points and the midpoint of a line segment. Vocabulary: midpoint, segment bisector. Assignment: pp. 25-27: 3-66 by 3’s 8/28 Midchapter review 8/30 Chapter 1 First Half Exam 9/2 Section 1-4: In this section we will begin looking at a very important geometric object—an angle. We will define an angle and its parts, and we will learn how to classify angles by their measures. Vocabulary: degree, ray, opposite rays, angle, sides, vertex, interior, exterior, right angle, acute angle, obtuse angle, angle bisector. Assignment: pp. 33-36: 6-42 by 3’s, 52 9/3 Section 1-5: In this section we will look at pairs of angles and learn to classify them according to how they are related and/or constructed. Vocabulary: adjacent angles, vertical angles, linear pair, complementary angles, supplementary angles, perpendicular. Assignment: pp. 41-43: 9-42 by 3’s, 52, 56 9/4 Section 1-6: In this section we will learn how line segments are used to create polygons. We will learn how to classify polygons in several different ways and we will learn how to calculate the perimeter of a polygon. Vocabulary: polygon, concave, convex, n-gon, regular polygon, perimeter. Assignment: pp. 48-50: 2-44 evens 9/5 Constructions and Review: Here we will learn to do several geometric constructions using only a straight edge and compass. We will also review chapter 1. Assignment: Constructions to be done in class. 9/8 Chapter 1 Assessment
