March 2013
Dear Visitor
We think you will be pleased to know that we have been offered a grant of nearly
£100,000 from English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund, to help repair the roof of Cadeby Church.
The roof is in a bad condition and in some places holes are letting in water and causing plaster to fall inside the building.
We have been working with a conservation architect to draw up a project to reroof and repair the church, which has been approved by English Heritage.
It involves re-tiling the roof, replacing wooden battens and re-plastering the ceiling inside, and should preserve the building for the next 100 years or more.
The total cost of the project is c urrently estimated at about £189,000, which, taking into account the EH/HLF grant offer of £95,000, leaves us with a shortfall of about £94,000.
We have already been left a very generous bequest of £30,000 and are able to use a church fabric fund of £14,000 but we still need to raise another £50,000 by December, if we are to receive the full amount of grant on offer.
We are applying to local and national grant-giving organisations, in the hope that they will be able to help
– but their financial support is not guaranteed.
So, we are asking you - and every other villager, as well as local businesses and people living beyond the parish who have connections with Cadeby - if you would be willing to make a donation towards our appeal, and help to preserve Cadeby
Church for generations to come.
Any amount will be very gratefully accepted. Every donation will be acknowledged and everyone who contributes will receive a personal invitation to attend a service of celebration and thanksgiving when the work is completed.
Anyone making a donation of £1,000 or more will have their name/s entered in a dedicated book of benefactors, to be kept in the church as a permanent record of those who supported the project so generously.
If, by the end of the year, all the donations from parishioners, businesses, grantgiving bodies and other supporters add up to the amount we need, we will be able to claim the full English Heritage/HLF grant and the work will go ahead.
We very much hope that you will want to help. If you do, please fill in/delete the relevant sections of the form below and post or deliver it to: Diana Morgan,
Cadeby Hall Cottage, Main Street, Cadeby, CV13 0AX .
If you would like to know more or have any queries, please contact our project co-ordinator, Lay Minister Diana Morgan, at Diana.morgan@mac.com
We look forward to hearing from you.
With thanks,
Rachel Parrish
