CK DATE CK INFO CK/DB ENTRY CONF LTR BOOK LTR MAP About the School Nurse Emergency Care (SNEC) Course… The School Nurse Emergency Care Course is based on a course originally developed by the University of Connecticut in 1995. Illinois EMSC has substantially revised and updated the course to reflect current practice. The course is designed to enhance the assessment, triaging and treatment skills of the school nurse when confronted with the acutely ill or injured student. With the increasing number of urgent health related conditions seen within the changing school environment and with the current need to assure disaster/terrorism preparedness, this course will support the school nurse’s core knowledge base in responding to these types of situations. The field of school nursing is unique in that nurses in the school environment are called on to fulfill multiple roles while serving a diverse population. The intent of this course is to provide nurses who work in the school setting with emergency care education and guidelines that they can integrate into their current practice and use to deliver care to the ill or injured student. This three-day course is taught by experienced school and emergency nurses who are familiar with the unique aspects of emergency care that school nurses may encounter in the school setting. Successful completion of the course requires attendance at all course lectures and practical stations and receiving a passing grade on the written course exam. About the Illinois EMSC Program… Illinois EMSC is a collaborative effort between the Illinois Department of Public Health and Loyola University Medical Center and receives federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR).
