Styles of Music Project Description You are responsible for working with your group to prepare and present a 10-minute oral/musical presentation which examines a particular style of music. The project consists of research, writing a written report and doing a presentation. Written Report Each group will turn in one typewritten report at least 5 pages in length. The written report must discuss: 1. An overview of the music style: Where did it originate? Provide historical background about the origins of this musical style. What was going on culturally, politically and historically that contributed to the rise of this musical style? How has it developed over time to the current day? What instruments are associated with this type of music? What individuals have been associated with this style of music? What musical elements exemplify this style of music? Name a musical concept or technique commonly used on the guitar in this style of music.(2 pages) 2. Analyze a piece of music that depicts that style of music. Select a piece of music to listen to and analyze that exemplifies this musical style. Discuss the melody, harmony, rhythm, form, instrumentation and lyrics of the piece. (1 page) 3. Biography of a musician: Select an individual whose music exemplifies this style and write a two-page biography on that person. (2 pages) Presentation Presentations will be graded on accuracy and clarity of factual information presented, creativity, originality and teamwork. Be creative! Make your presentation informative and entertaining. The presentation must include: 1. An oral presentation of the information in your report. 2. Performance of a song in the style of music that you are studying. 3. Demonstration of a musical concept or technique commonly used on the guitar in this style of music.
