LORANG PALOUSE PIONEER MUSEUM Genesee, Idaho Come by to celebrate! And see our Pioneer Displays July 10-11 Benefit Auction is 5-7 pm July 10, St. Mary’s Center, Genesee Lorang Home was completed in 1904, 100 years ago this year! The Lorang Ranch Museum is on Hwy. 95 between Moscow and Genesee: Directions to the Ranch (From the North): About 11 miles South of Moscow on Hwy. 95, (about 1 ½ miles South of Grieser Road) turn R on Borgen Road (this is hidden behind a small hill, but there will be a brick house on the L with a tall chimney), then turn immediately L onto Lorang Road, which runs in front of the historical home. Directions to the Ranch (From the South): 2.5 miles North of Genesee on Hwy. 95, turn L on Borgen Road. (There will be a L turn lane and a brick house on the R, with a tall chimney), then turn immediately L onto Lorang Road, which runs in front of the historical home. 1004 Lorang Road, Genesee, Idaho (208) 285-1484 Facts and Figures Of our Non-Profit Status --Janet Lorang is working hard to obtain the correct forms and requirements to turn the small part of land surrounding the historical home, the log cabin, curio cabin, and soon the barn over to Non-Profit status, so they will be able to qualify for grants, and tax-exempt status. We have just received a 90 day extension from the IRS, to complete this for the 501c3 Non-Profit forms. Tax-exempt status will be retro-active to Sept. 2003. --The Unicorporated Non-Profit Association we have created so far “Lorang Farm Restoration” has an account based at the Wells Fargo bank in Genesee. All donations can be received at any Wells Fargo branch. --Janet Lorang is the acting treasurer of the “Lorang Farm Restoration” account, which is in her name only. --The donations have equaled $1200 so far, (Thank you!)….and Janet has been so kind to suggest that this be saved for the actual restoration of the home, or the possible survey needed to divide the historical area from her private land. --Janet herself has donated part of these funds and…..again ….has been very kind to help with other costs incurred so far. Here’s a few: Patrick Lorang has replaced some windows in the kitchen. John Lorang has put a cap over the center of the curio cabin roof, for additional protection from the rain and has inspected the roof and the foundation beams of the historical home…the beams are in much better condition than we had expected!… the special scanner for the photos was bought.... --Many of those of us helping have contributed funds to help our project along. Thank you everyone!…this has been a tremendous help. --Newsletter, printing, stamp costs were provided by Janet herself, and also others of us who want to be sure all information is available on this wonderful project. The next Newsletter is planned for sometime in the Fall. --Guess what!!??…..here’s a quick update!……..Ron Mahoney (Director of the Idaho Big Tree program and Western Regional Rep. to the Big Tree Advisory Committee)…….and Fred Johnson (Author of Wild Trees of Idaho)…both of the U of I Forestry Dept. have met with Patrick Lorang at the Ranch and found a tree in the grove that may be the only one of it’s kind in all of Idaho!…and the Black Walnuts trees near the barn are some of the oldest Black Walnuts they had ever seen. They will be returning in the Fall to inspect the leaves…….More on this later! --Officers of “Lorang Farm Restoration” were added onto the 501c3 forms last Fall when John Lorang and Diane Conroy and Janet Lorang had gathered to meet in Lewiston with Idaho Heritage Trust grant program members. The instructions indicated that there may be some conflict of interest to have Janet as an officer of a Non-Profit with what was at the time her own land…so she decided to have her son Roch Lorang listed as an officer of the foundation. Janet is the acting treasurer. --The Barn has not yet been included as a National Historical Site, but this will be applied for in the near future! We’ll keep you informed!
