Mystery Book Report Rubric Name ____________________ Book title _________________ Date due: ________________ Each student is required to read a teacher approved mystery. Each student will then prepare a television newscast and a written newspaper article based on the solving of the mystery case in the book. Newscasts will be video taped as if they were a part of an actual news broadcast. To be properly prepared, each student should practice in front of a “live audience” (family, friends, etc.) Students will be evaluated based on the following rubric: I. The Newscast- (what should be in the news broadcast) An outstanding news report should answer the following questions: Who was the main sleuth that solved the case? What was the mystery that was solved? When did the mystery occur? Where did the mystery happen? Why was it important that the mystery be solved? How was the mystery solved? What were the clues that helped the sleuth solve the case? News Anchor Evaluation An outstanding news anchor has professional “on camera presence” by conducting himself or herself in the following manner: ___ The news anchor ___ The news anchor ___ The news anchor ___ The news anchor ___ The news anchor ___ The news anchor speaks clearly and loudly. makes eye contact with the camera often. sits straight behind the news desk. has a neat appearance. makes effective use of note cards. is creative in his or her presentation of the news story. _________________________________________________________ II.
