Drama Club Announcement

Dear Parents,
The Christiana Middle School Drama Club will hold tryouts for this fall’s play, “In a Grove: Japanese Ghost
Stories”, on Monday, August 26th, 2013. Auditions for a part in the cast will be after school from 3:20 until
4:30. You must pick up your child in the front of the school promptly at 4:30 on Monday, August 26th. Crew
members do not need to audition. The cast and crew lists will be posted at school and online by Tuesday,
August 27th. If selected, your child will be coming home with a letter detailing important dates and confirming
his/her part in the play. The first rehersal will be after school on Thursday, August 29th until 5:00pm.
AUDITIONS
Actors – Your child must have the attached signature page in hand in order to try out next week. If your child
does not have this signature page in hand, he or she will not be allowed to participate in the fall play. On the
signature page you will also find the excerpt from “In a Grove: Japanese Ghost Stories”, which your child must
memorize for auditions. Two teacher recommendations are also required, one from the homeroom teacher and
one from a teacher of your choice. These forms are attached.
Crew (backstage, sound, lights, spotlights) – Your child must turn the attached signature page in to
Ms. Fleischer no later than Monday, August 26th at 3:20pm. Two teacher recommendations are also

NO MEMORIZATION OR AFTER SCHOOL AUDITION IS REQUIRED. As we generally have more
students apply for crew than positions available, potential crew members also need to check the posted list on
Tuesday, August 27th for their name.
PRACTICE
Practice will be held after school TWICE a week. Students will generally practice every Monday and Thursday
from 3:20 (the all-remaining bus call) until 5:00 pm in the auditorium. If there is no school, there is no practice.
When all-remaining is called, students may leave for the auditorium. No students should be in the auditorium
before 3:20! Students must be picked up at 5:00 from the FRONT of the school building. Additional rehearsals
will be added during the two weeks just before the final performance. More details on other required practices
will come in a letter if your child is chosen for the production. The final performance date is Thursday,
November 21st.
ACADEMICS, BEHAVIOR and ATTENDANCE
Your signature also represents your understanding that your child may be dropped from the play if he or she
is placed in suspension (in-school or out) or incurs any academic failure. Your child may also be dropped from
the play if he or she misses more than two unexcused play rehearsals. Finally, your child may be dropped from
the play if he or she is picked up late from rehersal on more than two occasions.
COSTUMES
While we do have an extensive costume and props collection at the school, you agree to help us with your
child’s costume by signing this form. We will make every effort to keep these costume needs to clothes you
might already have at home. Our goal is for you not to purchase any costume material.
