It is a large, flexible, reversible space. For theatre, dance and lectures, the Main Space can be treated as a black box studio theatre with retractable seating. For smaller events, the Cafe Stage and the White Room are available. For larger music, cabaret and comedy events, the Main Space is reversed with a stage built in front of the retractable seating, usually opening out into the café/bar area. Travelling and parking Travelling to the Arts Centre is fairly straightforward. Follow the ring road to St. Marks roundabout, and turn into Estcourt Road. This road leads into Bedwin Street and the Arts Centre is in St. Edmunds church building on the right hand side. Parking is in the staff car park, behind the Arts Centre, and accessible from Bedwin Street. If travelling with tour buses or articulated lorries (30’ plus) please contact the Arts Centre 2 weeks prior to arrival. Get-in Get-in is via the Arts Centre car park at the back of the building. Access is via a ramp (1.30m wide – due to handrails for steps next to ramp.) Get In doors open to 1.90m wide. There is a level floor until a ramp or steps to backstage and SR (Box theatre) or SL (raised stage) Performance Spaces Main space – reversible space enclosed by purple drapes. There is no hard surface separating the auditorium/stage from the Front of House areas. For music performances, one end of curtains can be opened into the café/bar area. Café Stage – This stage is in what used to be the altar of the church and faces the café/bar area. It has white exhibition/display walls to SR, SL and UPS. White Room – Flexible space with manual retractable seating and lilac curtains at either end. Dimensions – guidelines only, please contact the technical department for detailed measurements. Real flame, smoke and pyrotechnics can only be used with written permission of the Local Authority. An application must be made by Salisbury Arts Centre one month prior to the performance. We are better able to help you if you send technical details in advance. Details of special effects e.g. pyrotechnics, strobes, smoke, use of liquids, breaking glass and use of animals must be notified one month in advance. Contracting companies are requested to send us a tour schedule to help us keep in touch. Any Arts Centre technician (fulltime or voluntary) present during an event may have to attend to other duties and may not be available to operate shows unless by prior arrangement All electrical equipment brought in by any visiting company must be tested to Health and Safety and Electrical requirements, with appropriate certificates. All flammable items – set, costumes, etc, should be adequately fire proofed by the visiting company prior to their arrival at the Arts Centre. Any queries regarding the facilities offered should be made before signing any contract or hire applications. If facilities in addition to those provided by the Arts Centre are required, we might be able to provide them, but if hired in, they will be charged against the artist’s / promoter’s fee. The Arts Centre will not accept any responsibility for failure or non-suitability of any equipment hired or brought in or of any equipment that does not comply with present Health and Safety and Electrical regulations.
