No Meeting Longview Public Library Weeding Schedule: September - Pat Sessa Volunteer needed- the garden needs to look especially October - good this month for our Symposium visitors Field Trip to White Oak Creek Wildlife Management Area This is a joint field trip with the Tyler Chapter. It is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. The purpose of this field trip is for us to see the WMA and plan what will be shown to symposium attendees. It's a huge tract ofland, so we'll have to decide which parts to show. The field trip will probably take a couple of hours. From Daingerfield, go north on U.S. 259 to Omaha. Omaha is about 20 minutes from Daingerfield. In Omaha, you'll find a four-way stop sign. Continue straight after the stop for another 3-4 miles, until you reach Texas 77. Go right on 77 for about 3/4 mile, and you'll see the headquarters on the left. Here's what the symposium summary says about the trip: Tour of recently created WMA, north of Omaha, near Arkansas and Oklahoma borders. WMA covers some 25,777 acres of mostly bottomland hardwood forest at confluence of Sulphur River and White Oak Creek. Trail is an easy hike through heavily forested areas, but bug repellent, long pants, socks and closed-toe shoes are recommended. Omaha is located 47 miles north of Longview, just off Interstate 30. www.tpwd.state.tx.us/wma/find a wma/list/?id=35. President's Corner by Margie McCoy Hi Gardening Buddies! The deadline is upon us -- we MUST get our NPSOT registration form in by September 14 in order to get our price break. Have you sent yours in yet? Please, please take time to do that. If you don't have a registration form, e-mail me and I'll email you one. You can then e-mail it to our office in Georgetown with credit card information for your payment, or snail-mail it with a check. Either way, time is of the essence! (Hey, I used that word long before Emeril used it!) I'm older than he is. Please come to the meeting Thursday night. Lots of last-minute details you can help with, plus we're gonna stuff give-away bags with goodies for the symposium. Another fun night! Belinda is getting our beautiful symposium tee-shirts ordered this week, and I can hardly wait for her to get the order back. I've already told her I want two. BTW -- she's ordering some of the larger sizes this time, so those of us "healthy" people can wear tee-shirts this year . Yeah! (Thanks, Belinda!) Look forward to seeing YOU Thursday night! God bless, Margie As of September's meeting the 2004 Symposium is four weeks away. Contributions to the newsletter are welcome. Articles of interest and items for the Calendar of Events are needed.
