JOINT DOCTORAL PROGRAM APPLICATION PROCEDURES How to Apply Students interested in applying to the joint CGU-KGI PhD in Computational and Systems Biology MUST first inquire with the Director of PhD programs, Dr. Animesh Ray at aray@kgi.edu or call (909) 607-9729 to make an appointment. ALL students must have the approval of the Director of PhD programs BEFORE submitting a formal application. Students must complete a formal application to be considered for admission. Applications must be processed by the KGI Office of Admissions. A check payable to Keck Graduate Institute must accompany your application. Please be sure your name appears on the check. Transcripts An official transcript must be submitted for every institution of higher education you have attended. Transcripts must be sealed and bear the original seal of the issuing institution to be considered official. If transcripts are not in English, an authorized, complete English translation must also be provided. Recommenders should send letters directly to the KGI Office of Admissions. Letters received directly from a student should be sealed and have the letter writer’s signature across the flap of the envelope. Admission Tests We require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test for admission. If you received your undergraduate degree from a university where English is not the language of instruction, or have studied fewer than three years at a university where instruction is in English, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Our GRE and TOEFL code number is 4166. Personal Statement The personal statement gives you an opportunity to describe your career objectives. How will the PhD help you achieve your personal and professional goals? You may also use the personal statement to demonstrate your potential for making contributions in the biosciences, and to bring to the attention of the Admissions Committee other significant matters. Supplemental Materials You may send additional supporting documents with your application. However, they will not be returned unless you enclose a self-addressed postage-paid envelope.
