Introduction
Gift Processing (AS 103)
We’ll assume that if you’re reading this right now you’re involved in the
extremely important function of maintaining a record of your institution’s
donations, and possibly also responsible for reporting back to the fundraisers
on various kinds of donations. Your job function is the primary reason
Millennium exists! (And we thank you for that!)
Unless today is your first day on the job, you already know that there is much
more information to maintain concerning a gift to your institution than the
donor's name and dollar amount. The quantity of information is much more
comprehensive than anyone outside our profession would guess! At the same
time, that information is useless unless there is an efficient way to store and
then retrieve it.
Millennium provides a comprehensive, sophisticated means of tracking and
reporting giving information. In spite of its complexity, we also think you’ll find
our method of processing to be as logical and reasonable as possible. In this
course of study, we'll take the process one step at a time until we cover the
entire procedure.
We’ll begin by defining all the columns in the Gifts Table, where all donations
and pledges are recorded. Once we get some basic background information
and understanding of how Millennium records and stores giving information,
we will start by entering a “simple” gift from a constituent donated to one
particular fund drive. Then we will add to the processing complexity and build
from there, S L O W L Y adding links, options, multiple transactions…etc.
