Charles University Prague 2nd Medical School Department of Immunology V Úvalu 84, 150 06 Praha 5 Head prof.MUDr. Jiřina Bartůňková, DrSc. Immunology Essays 2011 Following a good experience of previous years, we continue to assign seminar theses to stimulate the creative activity of our immunology medical students and to lead them in getting oriented in the literature. There are some changes from previous years, so please read these 2 pages carefully. Itinerary 1. Each group of 2 to 3 students chooses an area within immunology that seems attractive to them. This may be done looking at the immunology textbook. Using standard search methods in the medical literature, each group finds a review article that will be a backbone of the essay. This review has to be from one of the following journals: ADV IMMUNOL ANNU REV IMMUNOL CLIN EXP ALLERGY CLIN IMMUNOL CRIT REV IMMUNOL CURR OPIN IMMUNOL EUR J IMMUNOL GENES IMMUN IMMUNITY IMMUNOL REV IMMUNOL TODAY INFECT IMMUN INT IMMUNOL J ALLERGY CLIN IMMUN J CLIN IMMUNOL J EXP MED J IMMUNOL J LEUKOCYTE BIOL NAT IMMUNOL NAT REV IMMUNOL SEMIN IMMUNOL TISSUE ANTIGENS TRANSPLANTATION The journals in bold are the ones in which you can find a lot of review articles. Please, use the medical library of the 2nd Medical School (Ústav vědeckých informací, Dept. of Scientific Information) or other medical libraries. The journals allocated in our Department are also available for you (on-site only, please!); during the official times of seminars, the students who have the seminar are served first. You can let yourself be inspired by a textbook Janeway/Immunobiology - add your search term at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/ At the end of each Part, you can find References. 2. Each group will write an essay on the chosen topic. You can ask your teacher in case of difficulties. Intelligent, creative and independent approach will be appreciated. The essay should be composed as a paper for medically educated colleagues who do not need to be experts in immunology. All authors who show a perfect comprehension in the essay will be graded the same. 3. Start as soon as possible.
