SUMMARY
University graduate with two Bachelor degrees (B.Sc. in Microbiology and B.A. in
Philosophy) with the goal of admission to graduate school for future work as a MD/PhD in
Medicine and Biomedical Ethics, a passion partly realized through community service,
volunteer efforts, and internship experience at the Institute for Genome Sciences. Was a
member of a research team at the University of Maryland School of Medicine that found the
bacterial DNA was more likely to integrate in the genome in tumor samples than in normal,
healthy somatic cells. As a part of a multinational research team, made an expedition trip to
the Peruvian Amazon to collect fungal samples. Background includes extensive
extracurricular activities and leadership positions in student organizations. Personal interests
include playing violin, writing poetry and soccer.

Performed PCR, extracted and sequenced DNA, and separated fungal colonies under
the instruction of Dr. Priscila Chaverri for the study of biodiversity of fungi associated
to rubber trees (Hevae spp.): Towards understanding their role as plant protection
agents.
As a part of a research team, travelled to Iquitos, Peru for a month to collect Havae &
Micrandra spp. endophytes and saprophytes samples from the Peruvian rainforest.


Participated in pioneering research that discovered bacterial DNA was more likely to
integrate in the genome in tumor samples than in normal, healthy somatic cells. The
result of this research was published in the Journal of the Public Library of Science
(PLOS): Computational Biology, which was widely publicized in scientific
communities.

 Used various in-vitro and in-silica techniques such as BLAST and other
