COURSE PHILOSOPHY: In lecture, ZOOL 5242/4242, you will be introduced to the diversity of fishes in
aquatic systems and be exposed to the taxonomy, form and function, distribution, natural history, ecology,
conservation and economic importance of fishes with emphasis put on Arkansas and regional species. In laboratory,
ZOOL 5241/4241, you will be introduced to approximately 135 representative species of fishes that are located in
Arkansas and the region and will be expected to master the techniques and processes used in taxonomy and
systematics for identifying fish from laboratory and field collections.
