Manitoba is expanding housing options for seniors by investing in: Supports for Seniors in Group Living (SSGL) – This new model is provided to individuals living in a variety of existing community settings. Individuals receiving this support do not require 24-hour support and supervision, but may require enhanced supports to help them remain independent. Supportive Housing – This model is based on the existing supportive-housing model. Individuals receiving this support require 24-hour care and supervision in order to live in a group setting (primarily for seniors with cognitive impairment). Specialized Supports – This model offers care to the frail elderly whose health needs are complex, who are frequent users of acute care and would otherwise be eligible for personal-care home placement. The province’s commitment to developing a broader continuum of housing options for Manitoba seniors has resulted in additional spaces for seniors across Manitoba including: 1,100 new SSGL spaces in Winnipeg plus 1,699 new spaces in rural and northern areas, 232 new supportive housing spaces in Winnipeg plus 65 new spaces in rural and northern areas, and 23 specialized support spaces in Winnipeg and 60 in rural and northern areas.
