Nominations now Open for the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg's Peace Medallion: From November 16 -23, YMCA Peace Week invites people of all ages to reflect on peace, to talk, and to take action, individually and with others. The YMCA believes peace is more than the absence of war. It requires the presence of something – the recognition of basic human rights and the provision of basic human needs. Peace work can be local or international in scope. A special highlight of Peace Week is the presentation of the YMCA Peace Medal to an individual (youth/adult) or group who, without any special resources, demonstrates a commitment to peace through individual contributions made within their community or overseas. Since 1987, more than 1,500 individuals and groups across Canada proudly identify themselves as YMCA Peace Medallists. Nominations for the Peace Medal are being accepted until October 18, 2013. Nomination forms are available on the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg’s website (ywinnipeg.ca/actingpeace.html). The YMCA Peace Medal will be awarded during YMCA Peace Week in November.
