THE STARS SHINE FOR YOU THIS SEASON AT THE GRAND!
GALVESTON ISLAND,TEXAS (19 JUNE 2012) The stars shine for you this season at
Galveston's Grand 1894 Opera House. Internationally-celebrated and multi-talented star of stage
and screen, Joel Grey will launch the 2012-2013 Performing Arts Season on Saturday,
September 29, 2012 for one stellar performance at 8pm. Tickets are available now with
subscription packages of four or more performances – your chance to reserve a star-studded
season is at hand.
Your tickets this season can include performances by such legends as Liza Minnelli, Hal
Holbrook, Savion Glover and Johnny Mathis, as well as larger-than-life stage performances by
William Shatner (Shatner's World: We Just live in It) and Ed Asner as FDR. Music will shine as
well - including internationally-acclaimed pianist James Dick and violinist Shoji Tabuchi. In
addition, Broadway hits A Chorus Line, The Addams Family and the Elvis tribute Elvis Lives are
just a few of the shows sure to provide Grand entertainment.

An Evening with Joel Grey, September 29, 8pm - One of the most brilliant, versatile,
and Award-winning entertainers to grace The Grand’s stage, Grey’s credits include
Cabaret, Chicago, George M, Wicked and Anything Goes. Sure to win your heart, you
won’t want to miss this endearing showman’s performance.
TAP DOGS, October 8, 7pm. – The international sensation TAP DOGS is back!
Phenomenal entertainment for the entire family, TAP DOGS is rough, tough, rocking
theatrical entertainment at its best.
James Dick, Pianist, October 21, 4pm - This University of Texas Distinguished
Alumnus showcases his exceptional musicianship in a memorable performance of solo
works by Debussy and Beethoven.
Liza Minnelli, November 10, 8pm – When this bedazzling ball of fire takes center
stage, you are sure to fall under the spell of her iconic Star Power! Backed by a 6-piece









band, Liza takes you on a high-energy guided tour of her life and those legendary showstopping hits. Be prepared to be star-struck!
"A Chorus Line", November 23-24, 8pm/2pm/8pm – With music by Marvin Hamlisch
and winner of nine Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, "A Chorus Line" showcases the
struggles, hope, and heartbreak of dancers who put everything on the line to land a job on
Broadway. This show continues to be a world-wide favorite – after almost four decades
on stage.
The Texas Tenors, December 15, 8pm – Three good ol’ Texas pals combine their
personal charisma, powerful harmonies and “America’s Got Talent” energy with a tasty
mix of country, contemporary and operatic favorites. A holiday evening of 10-gallon
musical fun!
Houston's Children's Chorus Holiday Pops Show, December 16, 4pm – This premier
young choral group has been spreading music of the Holiday Season for over 20 years.
Don’t miss the angelic sounds of traditional holiday songs from around the world when
Houston’s Children’s Chorus takes to The Grand’s stage.
The Shoji Tabuchi Road Show, December 18-19, 7pm/7pm – This utterly captivating
showman who has “ruled” Branson for two decades makes a rare concert tour
appearance. Join the Tabuchi family for an unforgettable performance showcasing
blazing violins, stunning talents and a sparkling theatrical variety event!
The Kingston Trio Holiday Show, December 22, 8pm - Transforming folk music into a
hot commodity, these singers/musicians are legendary with their easy listening
performances of 1960s folk and pop music. A holiday treat for the whole family!
Jerry Jeff Walker, December 29, 8pm – Praised for his endearing singing style, Jerry
Jeff Walker is a great storyteller with a “say what you mean, sing what you say” delivery.
Returning to The Grand for his annual concert, Jerry Jeff moves his date to the Holiday
season this year – let’s celebrate!
William Shatner - SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT, January 6, 7pm Experience a larger-than-life performance by the instantly-recognizable William Shatner.
"Boldly go" to The Grand for laugh-out-loud humor and even some poignant moments
presented by this internationally-recognized icon and raconteur.
Steve Solomon’s My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish, and I'm Home for the
Holidays, January 12, 8pm – From the star and creator of My Mother’s Italian, My
Father’s Jewish, and I’m in Therapy comes this hilarious new comedy when the family
gathers at Grandma’s for a riotous celebration of the holidays. You won’t want to miss
creator Steve Solomon's recount of a chaotic family holiday.
The Oak Ridge Boys – January 19-20, 7.30pm/3pm. Don’t miss the unparalleled fourpart harmony and joyful, upbeat music-making of The Oak Ridge Boys. An encore
performance that will include favorites “Thank God for Kids,” “Elvira” and more, your
toes will be tappin’ with show-stopping fun!

Ed Asner as FDR, January 26, 8pm – Award-winning actor Ed Asner brings to life one
of America’s best-loved presidents - Franklin D. Roosevelt. This solo performance
showcases the courage and challenges that our 32nd president faced while in office.
Ronnie Milsap, February 16-17, 8pm/3pm. One of America’s most popular and
influential country and crossover” performers, Grammy and CMA Award winner Ronnie
Milsap is back by popular demand!
Elvis Lives, February 23-24, 8pm/3pm - Wise men say "run don't walk" to see the
"Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Tour." It is by far the greatest show for any Elvis Presley
fan. Don’t miss this incredible journey through the career of “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Montana Rep's Biloxi Blues, March 2, 8pm - Tony-Award winner Neil Simon
humorously explores the life of young Army inductees as they struggle to complete basic
training near Biloxi, Mississippi. Both “Heartwarming and funny”.
Savion Glover -SoLe Sanctuary A Hoofer's Meditation on the Art of Tap, March 9,
8pm - Tony-Award winner Savion Glover pays homage to the great tap dancers of the
20th century – such as Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr., by quoting their steps,
intoning their names and praising their memory through dance on stage.
"I Get a Kick Out of Cole"-The Rob Landes Trio Plays Cole Porter, March 17,
4pm. Accomplished musician Rob Landes and his Trio pays tribute to legendary
singer/songwriter Cole Porter with the lush melodies, shining lyrics and scintillating
stories from Porter’s legendary songbook.
Lord of the Dance created by Michael Flatley, March 21-22, 7pm/8pm - A timeless
Irish folktale of good versus evil dances its way onto The Grand's stage for two incredible
performances filled with a mesmerizing blend of traditional and modern Celtic music and
precision dancing – all enhanced by new costumes and the latest in lighting and
pyrotechnics.
Johnny Mathis in Concert, March 24, 4pm - Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame,
this native Texan and award-winning singer will entertain with his sultry, romantic voice
ranging from soft rock, blues and perhaps some R&B.
Billy Dean with very special guest Jimmy Fortune of the Statler Brothers, March 30,
8pm. Dean, a CMA and Grammy-Award winning entertainer will be joined on stage with
Country Music Hall of Fame winner Jimmy Fortune, for an evening of song that will
have your toes tapping!
Hal Holbrook in Mark Twain Tonight, April 13, 8pm - Legendary actor Hal Holbrook
brings Mark Twain to life once again on The Grand's stage. Performing this role since
1954, Holbrook’s “Mark Twain Tonight” is indeed a “living, breathing masterpiece” and
one of the most acclaimed performances in history.
Jeanne Robertson, Comedienne, April 20, 8pm - Hilarious humor is this willowy and
elegant lady’s strategy for success. Weaving a tapestry of humor, Robertson will keep
you in stitches as she turns personal experiences into funny material that elicits
contagious laughter.

The Addams Family, June 21-22, 8pm/2pm/8pm - A musical comedy based on The
Addams Family characters may be “creepy and kooky and all together ooky”, but they
are also funny, charming and highly entertaining. Don’t miss the fun as this weird and
wonderful family comes to life on The Grand’s stage.
