Dr Venkataram Mysore is a unique combination of dermatologist,
dermatopathologist and Hair transplant surgeon. He presently is the director,
Venkat Charmalaya-centre for advanced dermatology and Postgraduate
training centre, in Bangalore, India. The centre deals with all aspects of
dermatology-such as dermatopathology, allergy, photodermatology ,hair
transplantation, liposuction, lasers, other aesthetic procedures, and is
recognized for fellowship training by Rajeev Gandhi University for Health
Sciences, Bangalore, India. He has over 27 years experience as a
dermatologist,14 years as a consultant, 16 years in teaching Dr Venkataram
Mysore has made important contributions to the field of academic
dermatology, dermatopathology and dermatosurgery, the field of community
health and professional associations in dermatology.

Contributions to Dermatology:
1. Dermatology: As Chairman of Therapeutic Guidelines committee, I am
providing leadership to the committees for preparing evidence based
guidelines on management of different dermatological
conditions;psoriasis,atopic eczema,vitiligo, phototherapy,pemphigus leg
ulcers, partheium dermatitis These are being published shortly
2. Dermatosurgery: I headed the taskforce on dermatosurgery for the
formulation of evidence based guidelines on different procedures and
guidelines for eighteen procedures were authored, including topics
such as vitiligo surgery, lasers, hair transplantation, liposuction, safe
surgical practices etc. As President of Association of Cutaneus Surgeons
India, I started fellowships, research grants, mentorship programs,
national quiz, a unique national online dermatosurgery registry,
multicentric studies on stability in vitiligo, safety of Isotretinoin in
dermatosurgical procedures
3. Research: Proposed and got approved research grants/ scholarships at
different levels in Bangalore, Karnataka state and India. My research
activities are listed over leaf
4. Dermatopathology: Was instrumental in starting fellowships in
dermatopathology, both National and International. Started a Teachers
training program in dermatopathology for training of teachers .
Produced a CD Image atlas which was distributed to all medical
colleges in India. Conducted the first ever natonal dermatopathology
quiz
5. Community Dermatology:
a) Proposed the organization of vitiligo day as a public activity day to
eradicate stigma of vitiligo which is now observed on 18 may every
year all over India
b) Published leaflets on vitiligo
c) Books in local language Kannada on skin diseases which were
distributed to all government schools
d) Instrumental in opening rural dermatology clinic in Bangalore
e) have organized public awareness meetings on vitiligo, cycle rally on
atopic eczema
f) Contributed to Manuals of Leprosy and Sexually transmitted
diseases published by Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman

g) Was in charge of leprosy clinic in Ministry of health and contributed
to leprosy action plan
6.. Contributions to Teaching : Dr Venkatararm has, of the 23 years of
post graduate experience, been involved in teaching at different levels- a
short stint at JSS medical college Mysore, at Skin institute and school of
dermatology, Delhi, and more importantly 13 years in Muscat and Bahrain,
where he was instrumental in starting Arab board programs on both places.
On his return to india, he started a university approved post MD fellowship
program at his institute in Bangalore , which remains the only private
institute to offer this fellowship.Apart from this he has travelled widely,
lecturing at different places. His books on dermatopathology and Cutaneus
surgeries are widely read by postgraduates while his book on dermatology is
read by undergraduates. His CD on dermatopathology has been distributed to
all medical colleges.
7. Administration of our associations: As convener of Committee on
Standard operating protocols, I am in the process of drafting these protocols
for administration of our association. I have been on different committees
such as constitution committee, ethical committee.
