World War II Essay
Your task is to write an essay on the following topic. “Was it wrong for the United States
to drop the atomic bomb?” Your answer to this question will be your thesis. Your essay
must include complete bibliographical citations, proper grammar, spelling, formal
language, and be 3-5 typed pages (double spaced). The following elements of your essay
will be due on the date assigned:

Do not forget that formal language is important. This is not MSN or Facebook!
There is a rubric and a series of templates on how to proceed through each step (see
below). Be sure to use these templates and follow each step carefully as you are being
evaluated on both the process and the final product. You will submit your rough copy to
turnitin.com so that it can be reviewed by a fellow classmate.
In order to submit to turnitin.com, you will need to set up an account. Use the following
instructions to guide you through the process.
1. Begin by going to www.turnitin.com and clicking on create account on the top
right hand corner and follow the instructions to create an account.
2. You will then need to join our class. In order to do this, you will need the
username/class id for the class (9130630) and the password (history)
3. You will then be entered in the class and can click submit in order to submit your
rough copy.

ESSAY COMPONENT 2 – RESEARCH NOTES
Researching is the most important part of the essay production. Without research you will have
no foundation or basis for your essay. Using the template below as a guide on how to record
information learned through your research. You should be using sources from the library,
internet, old newspapers and any other source you can find. Do not only use one type of
research. Make sure your sources are credible (NO WIKIPEDIA) and properly documented in
MLA style.

An outline is important for organizing your essay. This is where you decide in what order your
arguments will be presented in the main body paragraphs of the essay. You will use bullet points
to show your planned organization. Refer to the template below for an example of what this

ESSAY COMPONENT 3 – ROUGH COPY
The rough copy is a full length essay on your topic. It should include all of the components of
each paragraph that you have been working on. Write it as formally as possible as practice for
your final essay. It should be no more than 3-5 pages (double spaced) and should include a
works cited page at the back. The rough copy will be checked on the following criteria:
