Citizenship Class Coordinator/Instructor

Part-time, 12-20 hours/week during instruction period

Position Summary
The Citizenship Class Coordinator/Instructor (CCCI) teaches English literacy and U.S. history and
government to adult ESL students to prepare them for the naturalization interview and test to
become a U.S. citizen. The CCCI has to oversee the agency’s Citizenship classes by supervising
the instructors, coordinating outreach and services, overseeing quality assurance, and preparing
pertinent data and narrative reports. The CCCI works with program leadership to oversee and
track project expenditures; maintain the project's financial records; and monitor grants, donations
and in-kind goods and services received.
Essential Functions
1.
Prepare and instruct Citizenship/English literacy class to maximize students’
achievements on the CASAS tests; obtain approval from the Immigration Program
Manager for class content.
2.
Properly and timely administer all required testing to students.
3.
Work with Naturalization Representative to maintain necessary student information for
compliance with data requirements.
4.
Communicate with agency Immigration staff to refer students in need of legal
immigration services or volunteer tutors.
5.
Recruit, coordinate, train, and supervise Citizenship classes’ volunteers and/or staff.
6.
Coordinate outreach, education, and media activities; make public presentations on
Citizenship classes.
9.
Plan and coordinate educational services, schedule and advertise classes, coordinate
with citizenship teacher(s).
10.
Oversee successful completion of reporting, testing, policy/procedure requirements and
bi-annual re-application process for pertinent grants. Assist program leadership with
accurate financial reporting and monitoring; prepare data reports and programmatic
reports for contracts and funders.

Oversee other Citizenship classes; ensure agency representation at Citizenship and
Immigration Services (CIS) naturalization meetings and other informational or
educational events. Monitor and disseminate changes in the CIS’s procedures and
regulations.

Maintain and increase up-to-date knowledge of immigration law and policies through
daily reading (e-mail list serves, publications) and participation in webinars, staff
meetings, and periodic offsite training.
13.
Be thoroughly familiar with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this
position in particular and the program or department overall. Perform job functions in
line with these policies and procedures.
14.
Participate in training required by accreditation standards, plus performance and
quality improvement efforts.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
1. Experience teaching ESL and/or citizenship training (knowledge of learning gains
testing) strongly preferred.
2. Certified to apply CASAS Test.
3. Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
4. Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work
closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the
program or department, and throughout the agency.
5. Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced and growth-oriented environment, while
maintaining a sense of humor and a positive, solution-oriented approach.

Physical Requirements
1. Requires ability to stand from 2-3 hours during class with intermittent sitting, bending
and squatting.
2. May be required to lift items up to 10 pounds to a height of up to three feet.
3. May be required to carry items up to 25 pounds for distances up to 100 yards.
