AVX Limited is the European subsidiary of the American based AVX
Corporation, whose headquarters are located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
AVX is a leading supplier of a broad line of passive electronic components.
For more than forty years, AVX has been involved in the research,
development and manufacture of ceramic based components for the
electronics industry and is now one of the most successful components
manufacturers in the world.
Over the decades AVX have extended their product portfolio through various
acquisitions. An example of this is tantalum capacitors where AVX is now the
leading supplier with a market share of approx. 40%. Most recently AVX
acquired the American Technical Ceramics Corporation, a leading
manufacturer of high performance electrical components, which broadens
AVX product offerings in more sophisticated advanced products.
AVX is part of the highly respected Kyocera Group and has manufacturing
sales and distribution facilities located throughout the world. Global
manufacturing locations include Northern Ireland, France, Germany, Czech
Republic, Malaysia, China, Brazil, El Salvador and USA.
AVX supplies a complete spectrum of passive and interconnection products to
just about every major electronics company, and as a global turnover in excess
of US $ 1300M.

In many of our customers’ products, reliability is important if not absolutely
necessary. From implantable heart defibrillators to undersea cables that carry
the Internet to many parts of the world, to Airbag systems in cars reliability
is critical.
AVX is committed to achieving zero customer failures through continuous
improvement and all processes and systems are designed with this objective
in mind.
AVX products are used in virtually every electronics based product
manufactured today. From computing through telecoms to the automotive
and aerospace industries, there is virtually no major manufacturer with
whom we do not trade.
AVX Ltd set up it’s manufacturing facility in Coleraine in 1978 to focus on
the manufacture of multi layer ceramic capacitors.
Coleraine traditionally was a high volume manufacturer of low cost
commercial units but our strategy has changed and we now specialise in the
manufacture of high value products. New product development is key to this
strategy and there is a team dedicated to expanding our product range. This
group work in collaboration with Universities to develop new materials
systems, which gives AVX the opportunity to get ahead of our competition.
The Coleraine facility has two key fabrication processes – ceramic slip and
ceramic tape that manufacture a wide range of case sizes. The Company also
have a specialised advanced products unit, which supplies custom products
for space and aerospace applications. The markets that we supply demand
high reliability products and the key focus in Coleraine is to produce high
quality parts to achieve total customer satisfaction.

MARKETS
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
For many years AVX has provided the backbone of technological support
for the burgeoning telecoms market. As technologies moved from
analogue to digital our fast developing expertise in passive components
has helped provide reliable and cost effective telecommunications to both
business and the family. Sophisticated mobile telephones, fast and secure PABX’s
and a myriad of networking products are all now well within reach. From the newest
satellite telephones to the most complex telephone exchanges, the reliability of
AVX’s components help to ensure direct, immediate communication.
COMPUTING
Computing serves the needs of many in the world today. Entire
ICT strategies rely upon the thousands of capacitors, resistors,
fuses, timing devices and connectors that contribute to the
reliable operation of the modern PC. The Company accounts running solely on
computer, the business executive on the move, a teaching aid in the classroom or at
home, all of our lives in one way or another are enhanced by computing.
AUTOMOTIVE
Almost everything we buy is reliant upon automotive
transport – for the transport of fresh food from farm to market;
business people to meetings. The modern engine must be economical and
environmentally friendly – only possible through superb digital electronics and
reliable components. Automobiles are increasingly becoming computers on wheels.
AVX parts will be needed to isolate the various electronic signals as the car becomes
increasingly computerised. AVX components can be found in various automotive
