Branding Lesson Activity Sheet
Product #1 (Apparel & Accessories)
Return to Retro. We need look no further than our smartphones for proof that we are hung up
on the past: #throwbackthursday hashtags punctuate our Instagram, and Timehop - an app that
reminds us exactly what we were doing this time last year, two years or even four years ago - is
topping the download charts. With our cultural reference points stuck in such a reminiscent
mood, is it any wonder that designers are set to rewind? Flares, fringing, and a touch of Studio
54 glamour, this is MUCH more than 70’s nostalgia!! Develop an original brand name,
logo/brand mark and slogan to represent the fall fashion line for your boutique that rewinds time
to reflect 70’s styles and designs with an up-to-date twist for your target market.
Product #2 (Food Marketing)
Candy – American as Apple Pie: I don’t know many people who honestly can say they don’t
like—let alone love—candy. According to the National Confectioners Association (NCA),
about 123 million U.S. households purchase chocolate, non-chocolate candy, gum or mints each
year. In fact, candy is enjoyed across every age, demographic group and lifestyle. And while
today’s candy choices are more than plentiful, results of a new survey reveal six out of ten
consumers like confectionery that reminds them of their childhood.
‘Standing in line at a snack bar offering up their hard-earned nickels and dimes for all
kinds of goodies like Blow Pops, Hot Tamales, Pop Rocks, Wax Lips, Atomic Fireballs,
Wonka Bottle Caps and King’s Candy Cigarettes.’
Your company, American Sweets, is designing a flashback through the age’s snack bar store that
will sell all your favorite childhood candy and sweets. It’s up to you to develop an original brand
name, logo/brand mark and slogan to represent the NEW snack bar store that specializes in
traditional candy and sweets.
Product #3 (Hospitality Services)
Capital of Texas Triathlon: Austin, Texas is hosting the 2016 Capital of Texas Triathlon
event. Group triathlon training in swim, bike, run, and all related aspects of triathlon has already
began across Texas. At RAIL, the company hosting the Triathlon, and has recently hired YOU
to market and advertise the Triathlon, are training TEXAS to be an athlete. Their mission is that
everyone is born with an inner athlete. If you haven’t seen it yet you will soon. Get ready to be
better than ever. Create a NEW look for their chain of training facilities and develop an original
brand name, logo/brand mark and slogan for this year’s Capital of Texas Triathlon.
