recent recall notices taken from the trading standards website on
www.tradingstandards.gov.uk.
This information includes recall notices relating to child safety (toys and / or
products which may affect children in your care). These newsletters will be
sent out regularly and are intended to alert your services to the numerous
recalls which occur. Please check the website for further recall notices relating
to food/ drinks and products.
Alert: Draw string bag recall
During 2013 drawstring bags have been distributed free to parents by
Bradford Council’s Families Information Service to promote early education
entitlement. These orange bags have a grey fluorescent strip along the bottom
and at the top have the words ‘Looking for information on: Free childcare for
all 3 and 4 year olds and free places for some 2 year olds?’
While they are intended to be used by older children, the bags have
drawstring straps which can pose a strangulation hazard if children aged
under 3 are allowed to play with them unsupervised.
Can early year providers and schools please advise parents with very young
children about the hazards that these bags may pose.
The bags can be returned to the Families
Information Service by being handed in at any
Council building or local children’s centre.

Henbrandt 'Bubble Magic' bubbles - recall
The following notice has been issued by the manufacturer:
The following product has been recalled by the manufacturer as the product
poses a risk if swallowed or comes into contact with skin.
Name: Bubble Magic
Type/number of model: PO414791 / R00038
Batch number: Batch no: 1079, 1080 and 1081
60ml screw-top tubs of bubble solution. The screw-top includes a bubble
wand. Contained in a display box of 24 pieces in various colours.
The product poses a microbiological risk because the total microbial count in
the liquid exceeds the permitted limits. Measured value: – 15000 cfu/ml of
Pseudomonas Aeruginosa – 15000 cfu/ml of Pseudomonas species – 1500

cfu/ml of yeast The liquid could drip from the wand or spill from the pot onto
the skin of a child and/or be swallowed by a child.
The product does not comply with the Toys Safety Directive.
If you have the affected Bubble Magic bubbles you should stop using them
immediately, and return the product to the retailer you purchased them from
for a full refund.

Shimano Mechanical Disc Brake Calipers - recall
The following notice has been issued by the manufacturer:
VOLUNTARY RECALL
OF SHIMANO MECHANICAL DISC BRAKE CALIPERS FOR ROAD
RACING BIKES:
BR-CX75, BR-R515 AND BR-R315
We have identified a potential safety issue with respect to our mechanical disc
brake calipers for road racing bikes which are sold after February 2012 (BRCX75, BR-R515 and BR-R315). So far, no injuries are reported.
As a responsible company where the safety of our customers has top priority,
we are voluntarily recalling the brake calipers concerned.
We are replacing these with improved brake calipers in which the safety issue
no longer exists.

Background
Readjustment of worn brake pads in the case of the brake calipers concerned
should be performed by the bicycle dealer.

However, it cannot be excluded that consumers and dealers will adjust the
brake pads incorrectly. This can lead to the braking force is being more
difficult to control and brake performance can be influenced.
If you have a bike with a brake caliper affected by the recall, or are unsure,
please visit a Shimano dealer to have the brake caliper checked and replaced
if necessary.

Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1986, which could result in serious
injury or damage. This product was sold in Argos between June 2012 and
September 2013. It only concerns one Batch (Batch Code 547 2 120) which
can be located on the products sewn in label. No other batches are affected
and no cases of injury or damage have been reported.

Food Hall Sliced Beef in Rich Gravy - recall
The following notice has been issued by the Food Standards Agency:
Horse DNA detected in canned beef from Romania
The FSA has been informed that a batch of canned sliced beef that was found
to contain horse DNA has been withdrawn from sale. Horse meat is not
identified in the ingredients list and therefore it should not have been present
in the product.
The canned beef was manufactured in Romania in January 2013 and
supplied to Home Bargains (TJ Morris Ltd) and Quality Save stores in the UK.
The 320g packs are described on the label as 'Food Hall Sliced Beef in Rich
Gravy.'
The presence of horse DNA in the product was identified during routine
testing carried out by Lincolnshire County Council trading standards officers.
The product was found to contain horse DNA at a level of between 1 and 5%.
It also tested negative for the presence of the drug phenylbutazone, known as
'bute'.
The affected batch has been withdrawn from sale. If you have this product
stored you are advised to return it to where you bought it.
The affected batch has a 'best before' date of January 2016 and a batch code
of 13.04.C.

We've discovered a potential manufacturing fault with the tamper seal on
some Boots Pharmaceuticals liquid medicines which might result in small
pieces of plastic being found in the medicine. Please note this potential issue
only affect products bought from September 2013 onwards. The health and
safety of our customers and patients is always our highest priority so we have
taken the decision to ask customers to return these products to our stores for
a refund or replacement with a similar item.
