Procedure:
Part 1
1. You will be plotting the track of a hurricane at each point you must record
a. Date
b. TD for tropical depression, TS for tropical storm, or H for hurricane
c. Once a storm has reached hurricane status record the hurricane category (one to
five) beside the “H” symbol
2. As storms approach land issue warnings and watches for the area most likely to be hit.
3. Place an x on the spot where the hurricane makes landfall
4. Continue the plot as the hurricane moves over land
5. Use the Saffir-Simpision scale to predict the impact of the damage
Questions: (on the back of your hurricane graph)
1. Which hurricane did you have?
2. How much money did you spend?
3. What is the predicted extent of damage expected?
4. How is central pressure and wind speed related in a hurricane?
5. What would be the result if inaccurate or late watches and warnings were issued
for an area?
6. What might account for the movement of the Hurricane? (ESRT pg)
