E-learning Co-ordinators Context and role Under HEFCE’s Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund, the University is able to support the appointment of E-Learning Co-ordinators (ELCOs) to identify, promote and support opportunities to enhance the student learning experience through the use on information technology. The funding will provide a 0.5 fte relief from teaching and/or administrative duties for staff at any level. Working with the educational development team and as a member of the University E-Learning Unit, you will promote and encourage the use of e-learning in your Faculty. You will identify and respond to needs at Departmental and Disciplinary level working with colleagues in the E-Learning Unit to identify curriculum areas where elearning development may have a positive impact on student retention, progression, growth in numbers and improved student achievement. Post holders are also expected to facilitate the development and implementation of e-leaning plans for their Faculty in line with Faculty and University strategies for Learning, Teaching and Assessment. Support and Guidance ELCOs will work as part of the recently established University E-Learning Unit managed by the Head of the Unit for this element of their work. They will also need to maintain links within their Faculty to anchor their support and interventions to the needs of the Faculty. They should work with and report progress to their Faculty Board and Faculty Learning, Teaching and Assessment Committee. Job Description Work as a member of the University E-Learning Unit and the wider educational development team to identify and meet the e-learning development needs of Faculty Organise staff development activities in response to requests and identified needs in conjunction with the Head of the E-Learning Unit, other E-learning Co-ordinators, Professional Development Co-ordinators, the Head of Educational Development and the Staff Development Manager Liaise closely with course development teams (for validation and implementation), Subject Groups and Directors of Studies to support the adoption of e-learning across a range of course provision Sit as a member of their Faculty Learning Teaching and Assessment Committee to represent the development of e-learning and promote the use of technology within their Faculty as part of the learning mix Contribute to Faculty strategy and plans for e-learning as approved by their Faculty Board/Learning Teaching and Assessment Committee and support, monitor and evaluate its implementation in their Faculty Provide assistance to Faculty staff preparing funding bids for e-learning initiatives and support for developing successful bids Report regularly to Faculty Board and/or Faculty Learning, Teaching and Assessment Committee on the implementation of Faculty plans for e-learning learning Maintain their own professional development in keeping abreast of and informing Faculty about e-learning developments and research. Person specification It is expected that E-learning Co-ordinators (ELCOs) will possess the following characteristics: a commitment to improving the quality of student learning across their Faculty broad experience of design and delivery of courses within their Faculty some experience of using technology in the support of learning without expecting computing expertise willingness to work with colleagues across their Faculty and more widely across the university in promoting and sharing the use of technology to support learning team working, networking and communication skills to engage with staff across the University registered practitioner status with the Higher Education Academy (formerly Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) Additionally, ELCos would normally be expected to possess at least three of the following further characteristics: experience in the provision of educational and staff development experience as a mentor to inexperienced colleagues experience in curriculum design and innovation, including the development of teaching materials possession of a teaching qualification expertise in the use of e-learning and/or e-moderating possession of a teaching fellowship or other teaching-related award project administration skills experience and training in teaching observation membership of relevant professional bodies/associations a track record of engagement with one or more Higher Education Academy subject centres
