CLEMSON UNIVERSITY NURSING INSTRUCTOR’S GUIDE
BON SECOURS ST. FRANCIS HEALTH SYSTEM
1. Students and faculty are to wear their Clemson University ID badge at all times during patient care. No other badges
are required for clinical rotations.
2. Documents:
 C&S Agreement (Appendix A)- All students and faculty must complete the Confidentiality and Security Agreement
(appendix A) and return to Trace Barton before the first week of clinicals. Her office is located on the 6 th floor at St.
Francis Hospital (downtown). Her phone number is 864-449-1387 (O) and e-mail is tracelyn_Barton@bshsi.org .
Once she receives the signed forms, passwords will be given to allow students to access the online training.
 Access Form (Appendix B)—please fill out all the information on the students listed when you know who they are
going to be. This form is to be faxed to:

eLearning Instructions (Appendix C) —these are the instructions for the students to access the eLearnings. All students
must complete 4 eLearning modules online which they can do it from home (this takes about an hour). After the
training, they will need to take a couple of tests in a proctored environment. If they do the training online, their
names/info needs to be sent Eva Mathews in order to set up a temporary access code for them.
3. Student Tests— All students must complete the online training and then and take 2 proctored post-tests:
a) “ConnectCare e-ssentials Proficiency Assessment” (Appendix D). The instructor will use the answer sheet to grade.
b) “Medication Administration with Barcoding Proficiency Assessment” (Appendix E). The instructor will grade using
the answer sheet
Both tests must be taken at a grade of 85% before receiving computer access codes. All post-tests are retained by the
clinical instructor. Once the forms are completed, regular student passwords can be obtained from Eva Mathews
4. Tracie Barton (Tracelyn_Barton@bshsi.org ) coordinates student clinical placements within nursing. Her number is 4491387.
5. Students must read the Annual Mandatory Safety Update and take the Post-Test on an answer sheet. These are in the
LRC. The answer sheet for instructors is Appendix F
6. All students must read the self-study HIPAA Privacy and Security Training booklet and take the post-test. These can be
found in the LRC. The instructor will check the answer sheet (Appendix G) before starting clinicals. Hard copies of the
test booklet and exam are available in the Learning Resource Center. Students will need to make copies of the original
test booklet. Once the post-test is completed, it should be given to the clinical instructor for grading. Students must
score ≥ 80% to pass the test. All post-tests are retained by the clinical instructor. The manual is in the LRC.
7. Students must provide the following dates to the clinical instructor prior to the first week of clinical: expected graduation
date, CPR, physical exam, and PPD. These dates, along with the students’ grades from the Safety and HIPAA tests,
should be recorded on the Student Mandatory Requirements Sheet (appendix H). This form must be returned to Trace
Barton during the first week of clinical. Faculty have the same requirements, but must also include:
a) State of Nursing licensure, license number and expiration date
b) Units on which the instructor will have students
c) Faculty agreement on file in St. Francis Health System Nursing Administration
d) Faculty orientation completed onsite prior to student placement
8. Clinical faculty must contact Lisa Cobb 864-255-1566 to arrange for computer classes. Instructors are required to
complete in-class training with a credentialed St. Francis trainer.
9. Clinical faculty should contact Bruce Spaulding (Director of Safety) at 864-255-1128 before the start of the semester to
obtain the location for student parking. Parking sites vary each semester and often require building access codes as
well. Students are encouraged to park in the Outpatient Center building parking lot
10. Clinical faculty should contact Rebecca Mueller, Peri-operative Clinical Nurse Specialist, at 864-255-1066 to set-up a
meeting regarding the semester’s OR rotations. She may also be reached at rebecca_mueller@bshsi.org.
11. Faculty needs to contact the Pharmacy located on the basement level and speak with Patty Putnam or Deanna Oriol to
obtain access to Pyxis.
12. Kate Downes coordinates senior practicum placements, 255-1092 or Kate_Downes@bshsi.org. The following
information is required for all Senior Practicum requests:
o The school must submit requests for each student placement
o The school must submit the faculty member responsible for those practicum students
o Kate will notify unit directors of these requests and request an appropriate preceptor for each student
o If the director is able to accommodate a student placement, the preceptor will be identified and assigned to the
student
o Kate will notify the faculty member of placement and contact information for those units/preceptors

Launch an Internet Explorer Browser.
Type: https://iris.bshsi.org in the URL address bar (make sure to include the s in https://) and press > Enter
You will now be prompted to enter a UserID and password.
a. If you see the small box at right open asking for your Username and password Type: the user name that is
assigned to you in the UserID box and then type your assigned password in the password box and press >

b. If your username and password are not accepted, try typing ads\ followed by your username in the
username field.
Look for the box with the ConnectCare icon and click the >e link.
