In Class on Tuesday the 18th ( periods 3 & 5) and Wednesday the 19th ( Periods
2, 4, & 6) we will be having a class debate. The Debate Topic is the post-war
Iraq situation. You have been assigned a role. As one of President Bu sh’s officials, you are responsible for making the decisions regarding the post-war Iraq situation. Your job is to evaluate the arguments of groups 1, 2, & 3 and to make a decision on what to do in Iraq. Your job will be to question the groups and to listen to their arguments. To make an informed decision and to best understand the debate, you must understand all of the roles. You have been given a packet to help you prepare for your debate. This is yours to keep.
Steps to take:
1. Read the summaries of all positions
2. Follow the directions on the “Bush Officials” sheets – creating questions
3. Work on creating your opening statement – directions below.
4. You must have all of this finished by the beginning of class Tuesday the
18 th / Wednesday the 19 th – make sure what you don’t finish in class is completed at home.
Opening Statement Directions:
Prepare an opening statement of 3 – 5 minutes that summarizes the situation in
Iraq. Explain your role as one of Bush’s Officials. Discuss the circumstances that led up to the current situation in Iraq. Your job is to give background on the situation and not take a side in the discussion.
