LAB: H2O(H) YEAH! Criteria: Data Collection and Processing, Conclusion and Evaluation Your task: After measuring the horizontal distance and maximum height of a stream of water coming out of a school water fountain (actually, 3 fountains), calculate the initial velocity of the water (right as it leaves the spout). Materials: ruler, 3 different drinking fountains Procedure: you are to write up a step by step instruction list for this lab Data Tables: show all measurements for three fountains. A diagram of the trajectory (either here or in your procedure) would be helpful. Calculation: starting with the projectile/kinematics equations, show how you calculated the velocity from the “x” value (where it lands) and the “y max” value (the maximum height). Assume that in Central High School, on the planet Earth, g = 9.81 ms-2 (3 sig fig!) For some bonus points calculate the angle at which the water leaves the spout. Conclusion: Write a brief (short!) conclusion where you summarize what you found. Include some suggestions on how to improve the way you measured your data or other applications of this technique.
