JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Subject Leader GCSE Maths NORMAL LOCATION: POST NO: POST HOLDER: SCALE & SALARY RANGE: Academic Point 38 / £36,418 per annum HOURS OF WORK: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: 37 hours per week/full year basis Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives GCSE Maths CONTEXT The curriculum at Tresham College is organised into seven schools each led by a Head of School (HoS) and supported by Deputy Heads of School. Each curriculum school has a team of GCSE Maths teachers that operate within the guidance of the Head of School. The strategic direction of Maths and English across Colleges is led by Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives; this is supported by the cross college Maths function by the Subject Lead. The Subject Lead will assume responsibility for the quality of the provision, effective teaching, learning and assessment practices and provide a subject expertise on all GCSE Maths provision. The Subject Lead will be a role model in the delivery and development of GCSE Maths across the College. This role also includes a 12 hour per week teaching commitment. OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB To assist and support the Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives in the leadership and management of the cross college Maths, in line with the College Strategic Plan and Policies. To support curriculum HoS to carry out carrying out developmental observations, arranging cover and timetabling for GCSE Maths. To be responsible for ensuring that effective and comprehensive processes are in place to track and monitor student progress relative to starting point. To improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment of GCSE Maths. To support staff to improve the outcomes of GCSE Maths across the College. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership and Management To work alongside curriculum HoS to ensure that the GCSE Maths aspect of the Study Programme Framework is prioritised and accurately monitored, recorded and reported upon. To be responsible for ensuring that effective and comprehensive tracking processes are in place, including the tracking of learner achievements, individual teacher achievement rates and monitoring learners ‘at risk’. To be responsible for ensuring that effective retention and achievement strategies are in place across all GCSE Maths provision. Provide the College Leadership Group with Management Information relating to GCSE Maths. To work alongside Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives to implement improvement plans for GCSE Maths in line with the overall Maths and English strategy. To ensure that the experience of the Learner Voice is listened to, and acted upon in order to drive up overall standards and performance within GCSE Maths. To ensure year on year improvements in the quality of the GCSE Maths provision and associated learning experience. To be the lead subject practitioner, providing the subject expertise to the College Management Group. To improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment practices across college. To mentor new GCSE Maths teachers and support their induction period. To develop peer observation and coaching scheme for existing staff and lead in the use of developmental observations as a means of continuous improvement. To have a continuous drive to outstanding for GCSE Maths provision across college. To lead on training and development sessions with a focus on raising teaching, learning and assessment for GCSE Maths and English across the wider. To ensure that processes are in place to ensure that the GCSE Maths SAR is completed in a timely and accurate fashion; and provide effective in-year monitoring of the associated QIP, in order to ensure sustainable and continuous improvements. Develop the work of the cross college GCSE Maths within the context of College’s policy and strategic plans, to meet the needs of learners, employers and the community partner schools. Assist the Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives in preparing GCSE Maths in-year position statements and other required quality documentation. Monitor the tracking of learner achievements for GCSE Maths and ensure that all members of staff are fully compliant in relation to Markbook, Promonitor and all other learner records. Ensure that effective processes are in place in order to improve learner outcomes for GCSE Maths. Ensure that the GCSE Maths staff are fully compliant with all College QA and QI processes through effective monitoring of staff usage of ‘MyFiles’. Where practice requires improvement, robust action plans are to be put in to place in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives. Assist the College Management Team in ensuring the very highest standards of practice are adopted in relation to teaching, learning and assessment (TLA) on all of the GCSE Maths programmes. Closely support and monitor the learners’ attendance and achievements within GCSE Maths. Carry out curriculum planning; monitoring enrolment, progression and learner performance targets. Work effectively with Evolve staff, where relevant. Ensure that all programmes are fully compliant with Awarding Body regulations and that course teams are satisfactorily prepared for all External IQA. Support the College Management Team in providing a successful GCSE Maths function that serves the needs of all learners across the College. Support the HoS in ensuring that all GCSE Maths learners are correctly enrolled to the right programmes to maximise all funding opportunities. Students Co-ordinate the arrangements for the selection and admission of students to courses, in conjunction with Customer Services and Curriculum Teams. Ensure that robust processes are in place to provide early identification of any learners who are at risk of non-completion, under-achievement or failure; in order to ensure that the teaching team put timely, comprehensive and effective remedial actions in to place. Ensure the College arrangements for parent consultation, progress review and tutorial are fully embedded. Courses Assist the Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives in developing the GCSE Maths offer across College, in order to ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of learners as well as the local and national economy. Ensure that the GCSE Maths course operate within the requirements of curriculum assessment and examination regulations and in accordance with College policies. Work collaboratively with curriculum HoS and Deputy Heads of School in relation to planning, timetabling and staffing of joint courses and cross College provision. Monitor syllabuses and schemes of work to ensure they are in place, appropriate and up-to-date. Ensure the maintenance of appropriate records. Finance and Resources Recommend capital items for purchase, as appropriate and assist the Director of Curriculum Strategic Objectives in preparing annual Capital Bids. General and College Responsibilities Carry out the full range of duties of a lecturer by teaching on GCSE Maths programmes within a given School. In liaison with the Principal, Deputy Principals, Directors and Heads of Schools, effectively represent the interests of the College in all matters relevant to the duties of the role. In accordance with the College’s risk policy, support the HoS to identify and record material risks for Curriculum areas. Support the HoS to ensure safeguards/controls are in place to mitigate the risks to an acceptable level. Participate as required in College-wide activities such as marketing activities and staff and student events. Undertake such additional duties or projects as the Principal, Deputy Principals, Directors or HoS may determine from time to time, after consultation with the post holder. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Subject Leader GCSE Maths Criteria Essential Desirable Qualifications Degree in Maths (or related subject). Relevant post graduate qualification. A’level Maths Management qualification or willingness to undertake. Good all round level of education to include Maths and English to GCSE (Grade A – C) or equivalent level (level 2). Teaching Qualification. Evidence of continuing professional development. Experience and Knowledge Substantial experience in teaching GCSE Maths. Experience of curriculum Significant track record in consistent management within Further delivery of outstanding achievement Education or School in GCSE Maths. environment.
