Quito City tour and Middle of the World Monument City Tour to the Ecuadorian capital’s colonial past, declared by UNESCO a “World Cultural Heritage.” Quito invites you to visit its historic and modern treasures. You start the tour visiting modern and colonial districts. First, the “Balcon Quiteño”, the Legislative Palace, the colonial center, the Independence Plaza, the Carondelet Palace (Government Palace) the Metropolitan Cathedral, “La Compañía” and “San Francisco” churches and a drive to “El Panecillo” hill for a marvelous panoramic view of the city. Drive to the Middle of the World for lunch in a typical restaurant. The world famous Equator, “Mitad del Mundo” is located only 30 minutes from Quito. Here you will have the opportunity to jump from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere. In the 18th century the French Geodesic Expedition arrived here to perform important researches and investigate the Earth’s actual form. A monument and an interesting Ethnologic Museum were built. The Museum will teach you all the different cultures of Ecuador. Return to Quito. Overnight at Hotel Quito Day 2: Quito Mindo Quito Early departure to Mindo. Visit the Pululahua crater, probably the only crater inhabited. This is a wonderful valley where people’s main activity is the agriculture, you will have a nice view of all the farms in the crater. Take a spectacular drive dropping several thousand feet, through native cloud forest on the western Andean slopes, to the village of Mindo. On the way visit the Pahuma reserve. The settlement is surrounded by dairy farms and a unique cloud forest and much of the area has been set aside as a nature reserve. This Ecuador´s north western area is one of South America’s most diverse places for bird life with over 400 species and also has some amazing flora and fauna, beautiful forest and waterfalls. During the late afternoon return to Quito.
