Emphasis on ground based reflector systems and waveguide sub-assemblies (feed horns, CP polarizers, OMT/diplexers, filter, etc.) for satellite communications in the 3-40 GHz bands. Develop cost effective, quick to market products utilizing state-of-the-art microwave design tools while closely working with mechanical engineering and prototype machine shops. Intimate involvement in all stages of product development. Interfacing with customers to define requirements and specifications. Develop test plans for prototype and production antenna systems, and supervise technicians and entry-level engineers. Occasional designs of array antennas for 54 MHz 40 GHz including planar waveguide and stripline arrays, yagi and log periodics designs. BS EE or Physics with microwave/ electromagnetic emphasis is preferred. Masters or beyond is beneficial. 5 or more years of related experience is preferred. Experience with reflector and feed assembly design tools (HFSS, TICRA, NECREF or equivalent) as well as antenna test equipment (ranges, network and spectrum analyzers) is very beneficial. Antenna/waveguide design experience for high volume production techniques is also beneficial (diecasting, investment casting, etc.) A. Johnson Professional Experience and Skills 10 years experience installing and characterizing major antenna system types including reflector, linear, and helical. Working knowledge of phased array theory. Extensive knowledge and experience with ground based reflector systems and waveguide sub-assemblies (feed horns, CP polarizer/launchers, OMT/diplexers, filter, etc.) for satellite communications in the 3-40 GHz bands Additional knowledge and experience with klystrons, magnetrons, circulators, hybrid couplers, and isolators. 3 years of extensive antenna development experience in aerospace and DBS. Basic understanding and independent study of CAD and simulator tools. In-depth knowledge of RF product development from concept through production. Professional relationships with the DBS and low data rate market. Channel Master targets: Echostar, DirecTV, EF Data, EMS, Scientific Atlanta, Valley, Pacesetter, etc. Extensive knowledge of antenna testing 3 years of open range and anechoic chamber experience characterizing antennae and feed assemblies to 110GHz. Solid knowledge of the design of yagi, log periodics and other linear arrays. Familiar with stripline and microstrip design concepts and learning to design arrays, patch and planar waveguide antennae. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electromagnetics, advanced digital communications, and analog/VHDL IC design. Additional engineering studies in antennae and IC design beyond graduate requirements. Over 8 years of related experience (not counting 12 years in radar) in antennae/ODU R&D. Knowledge of design theory and link budget analysis of offset parabolics in a DBS market. Knowledge of die casting and effects on LNB/ODU cost and performance. Solid knowledge of die casting in the production of LNB/ODU assemblies.
