Awarness Campaign 2001-02
Youth Unit of Voluntary Action
On 19th May 2002 a seminar cum workshop on water and environment pollution control was
organized at Gabur Cherra under Hrishyamukh Block. The seminar was presided over by
the Hon’ble Chairman of Hirshyamukh Panchayet Samiti, Sri Manik Mahajan. Most of the
resource persons delivered their opinion about indication and contraindication on pollution
control. At the end of this seminar the number of this organization played a series of one act
drama on pollution control. On that day the members of this organization and participants
planted about 50 nos. of trees in and around Gabur Cherra village. They also conducted a
“human Health Camp” at Gabur Cherra school complex where about 149 patients were
examined by qualified physicians and required medicine were distributed at free of cost.
Side by side the YUVA also facilitated their ‘Mobile Water Testing Laboratory’ where the
technical persons tested the quality of water collected by the villagers from various water
source of the village. On 5th June, 2002, the World Environment Day was celebrated by
organizing Art competition on environment at Ram Thakur Ashram, Belonia. About 28 nos.
of participants participated in three groups. Hon’ble MLA also attended the programme. The
prizes were given to the best three artists of each group.
Netaji Welfare Centre
As a part of National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-02, the World Environment
Day was celebrated on 5th June 2002 at Krishnanagar high School by organizing quiz
competition, essay competition and workshop on environment awareness among the
students at different school under Hrishyamukh Rural Development Block area. Mr.
Haradhan Basu, President of Netaji Welfare Centre presided over the function and Mr. Nil
Ratan Bhowmik, A/T of that school was present as the Chief Guest. The resource persons
present in that function discussed about the control of pollution and advised to all the
participants for protection and plantation of trees and plants. At the end of the programme
prizes were distributed among the winners. On 7th June, 2002 an environment awareness
meeting was held at North East Krishnanagar Social Education Centre which was presided
over by Mr. Ratan Sen Choudhury. The resource persons present in the meeting made their
discussion on environment pollution, protection forests, disadvantage of pesticides and Biodiversity etc. After completion of the meeting saplings were distributed to all the participants.
On 9th June, 2002 an environment awareness camp was held at Madhya Krishnangar Social
Education Centre which was presided over by Mr. Narayan Majumder, Rural Medical
Practitioner. Mr. Nilratan Bhowmik and Mr. Ajit Majumdar, NSV of Nehru Yuva Kendra was
also present as the chief guest and the guest of honour respectively. The resource persons
present in that camp delivered their lecture on joint forest management & conservation of
forest, protection and promotion of medicinal plants, use of smokeless chullah, rain water
harvesting etc. At the end a case study was held among the participants.

Agragani Samaj Kendra
On 5th June, 2002 a programme on ‘Sustainable Development was organized at Beltali
Debbrama Para Junior Basic Schools. Sri Subash Das, Secretary of Agragami Samaj
Kendra, Agartala in his introductory speech stressed on the need of keeping the
environment free from pollution and also said to work always for healthy environment. He
also addressed all the NGOs to come forward with full courage. In connection with this
programme a sit and draw competition was held among the students which was conducted
by Smt. Rekha Dutta, A/T of that school. The resource persons present there advised to all
the participants to keep pollution free environment and also demonstrated the process of
keeping environment free from pollution. At the end of the programe prizes were distributed
to the winners of the sit and draw competition.
Society for Social Service, India :
On 14th May, 2002 a street Drama on Environment was organized at Kaman
Chowmuhani at 6 P.M. Another street Drama on sustainable Development was also
organized at Battala on 17th May,2002 at 6 P. M. The World Environment Day was
celebrated on 5th June, 2002 by organizing various programmers. On that day they planted
different valuable trees alongwith hundred debdaru trees in the premises of Indian National
School at Tarapur, Sidhai
Mohanpur, Agartala. They also distributed leaflets on
environment. On 6th & 7th June, 2002, they distributed about two thousand leaflets in
connection with the theme of the National Environment Awareness Campaign among the
people in an around Mohanpur and Hezamara Block along with Agartala. On 11th June,
2002, mass postering on sustainable Development with local issues of Environment was
done by the members of Society for Social Service, India at different places of Mohanpur &
Hezamara Block area.
Sri Sri Ramkrishna Sarada Ashram, Belonia
On 28th April 2002 they organized a sit & draw, debate & Quiz competition among
the students of different schools at Sri Sri Ramkrishna Sarada Ashram Nat Mandir. The sit &
draw competition was organized in two groups on "Natural Environment” & "Plant & We".
The theme of the debate & Quiz competition was "Environment Pollution & it's remedy" and
"Man & Environment" respectively. At the end of this programme the prizes were distributed
among the winners of these competitions. On 30th April 2002, an Alochana Sabha on
"Environment Awareness" was organized at Munda -Sabar Para. Sri Himangsu Ray, SahaSabadhipati of Dakshin Jilla Parisad was present as the chief guest of this Sabha. The
resource persons present in this Sabha discussed about the protection of Environment & the
importance of Plantation. After that a cultural Programme & drama was also held among the
students of the different schools. Besides this Programme on the some day a Health Camp
was held at local Baloari Centre. On 1st May, 2002 a workshop on "Forest conservation", &
“Plantation & Protection" was held at Ashram Nat Mandir. In this workshop Sri Bimal Kanti
Das, retired teacher, delivered his lecture on this subject. Sri Rati Mohan Paul, teacher,
made a garden with the students on that day. On 5th June, 2002 the "World Environment
Day" was celebrated by organizing a rally, Alochana Sabha & Cultural Programme. The
students & Teachers of different schools and devotees were present in that Programme.

Pratyaya Samajik Sangsha (Uttar Jogendranagar, Agartala)
On 19th May, 2002 a seminar was organized at Purba Jogendranagar under the
National Environment Awareness campaign 2001 -2002 Programme which was presided
over by Sri Babul Debnath. The dignitaries present on this seminar made their discussion on
the problems of Environment Pollution and its remedy. More than 200 villagers were present
there & they also discussed about the Pollution of Environment & protection of Environment.
On 26th may, 2002 a door to door camping was held through which the members of this
organization distributed halogen tablets& bleaching powder among the villagers of Purba
Jogendranagar. By this campaign they advised the villagers how to control water pollution.
On 30th May,2002, they organized a programme at Adarsha Coloney. Dr. Shekharesh
Bhattacharjee was present as the resource person in that programme. This programme
includes various items like drama on pollution control, scientific exhibition, distribution of
leaflets, postering, speech etc. More than 800 villagers were present in that programme. On
5th June, 2002 World Environment Day was celebrated by organizing a safai movement and
plantation at Uttar Jogendranagar & Purba Jogendranagar. On that day they also distributed
leaflets.
Tripura Social Service Association ( Kanchanmala)
On 5th June, 2002 the World Environment Day was observed by organizing a
Seminar at Durgapur S. B. School which was presided over by Sri Amar Sutradhar,
Pradhan, Suryamaninagar Gaon Panchayat. About three hundred participants were present
in this seminar. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. M. Nagraju, Director, Tribal welfare
Departments. S.D.O. Bishalgarh sub-division, B. D. O. Dukli Block, Project Director, Science
& Technology, Dy. Director, TRP & PGP, Dy. General Manager, GAIL attended the seminar
as guest of honour. On 7th June, 2002 an Environment Awareness Camp was held at Netaji
Sishu Niketan, Kanchanmala, which was presided over by Sri. Rebati Sarkar. On 10th June,
2002 an Alochana Sabha was organized at Chankhala, Bikramnagar Gaon Panchayat with
the members of self health group. Smt. Maya Rani Bhowmik presided over this Sabha. Sri
Prabal Das, Secretary of this association delivered his lecture on Environment & Control of
Pollution. Another two Environment Awareness Camp were organized on 18th & 20th
June,2002 at Pravapur J. B. School and Chesrimai, Charilam respectively.
Samaj Kalyan Samity
On 12th June, 2002 a one-day seminar was organized at the office of Belabar Gaon
Panchayat which was inaugurated by Gram Pradhan with lightning of Candle. Sri Sadhan
Banik, the former secretary of State Social Organization was present as the chief guest
whereas Sri Ananda Sarkar, the member of Belabar Panchayat was present as the special
guest. About forty women participated in the seminar. The Chief Guest on his lecture
discussed about the plastic Pollution. The resource persons present in the seminar made
their discussion on the importance of plantation, clean water, & pollution causes due to
smoke etc. In the afternoon the women of that village organized a campaign at the market to
ban the use of poly bags. At the evening a cultural programme was held among the villagers
where different songs, recitations & dramas were performed. In this valedictory programme
Sri Fanindra Sarkar, Gaon Pradhan, discussed about the importance of that type of seminar.

Tripura Gram Unnayan Council, Agartala
On 5th June, 2002 the "World Environment Day" was celebrated by organizing
different Programmes. In the morning a rally was arranged from Katlamara market to
Pattabin area with the students & villagers giving the slogans on the importance of world
Environment Day. After that with some students they planted different valuable trees at the
ground of Kathiyababa Seba Sangha and also protected them with bamboo fencing. In the
afternoon a seminar/discussion on forest conservation was organized at Katlamara J. B.
School. The resource persons who delivered their valuable lectures in that seminer were Sri
Ratan Lal Nath (MLA), Sri. Madhan Mohan Saha, Sri Bhaskar Chakraborty. On 9th June,
2002 an essay competition on World Environment Day was held among the students of 6th
to 8th standard at Sri Sri Kathiyababa Free Coaching Centre, Katlamara.
Society for Development of Rural Education, Belonia
During 8th to 11th May, 2002 Society for Development of Rural Education in
collaboration with scout troops of UBC Nagar High School, organized different competitions
such as lecture, poster writing, essay writing, quiz, recitation of Rhymes & poems composed
on "Water & Environment” at UBC Nagar High School. The students from different schools &
local area participated in these competitions. On 12th May,2002, a Padayatra was arranged
with the students, teachers, member of Panchayat & Villagers which was started from UBC
Nagar High School and walked different paths of UBC Nagar Gaon Panchayat with Banners,
flags, festoons. They also gave slogans to aware the villagers about the danger of pollution
& need of sustainable development. On 13th May,2002, they organized various street
dramas in different places of Gaon Panchyat to draw the attention of villagers on different
types of Pollution, their causes & remedies, soil, forest & wild life Conservation etc. On 14th
May,2002, a safai and Plantation Programme was held where the members of this society
planted some valuable plants like neem, debdaru etc. on the two road side of the village and
also fenced the baby plants for their protection. On 15th May,2002, an Alochana Sabha was
organized at local market shed which was presided over by Sri. S. K. Banik, teacher. Sri
Padarai Tripura, member of Rajnagar Block Panchyat Samiti was present as the chief guest
of this sabha & delivered his lecture giving the importance on plantation. Scout troop of UBC
Nagar High School performed a colourful cultural Programme with songs, dramas & dances.
Uttar Bharat Chandra Nagar High School, Belonia
Under the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001 - 2002, Scout troop of
Uttar Bharat Chandra Nagar High School in collaboration with Society for development of
rural education & culture, organized different Programmes during 8th May to 15th May,2002.
On 8th May,2002, a Sabha was arranged among the students & teachers of UBC Nagar
High school at the school ground. Sri A. B. Chakraborty (A/T) of the school in his speech
discussed about the causes, control & remedies of different types of Pollution. Sri S. P.
Biswas delivered his speech highlighting the importance of forestation & necessity of
conservation of soil, water, air, forest & wildlife etc. On that day they planted 25 nos. baby
plants of neem, Krishnachura, Debdaru etc. and fended them with bamboo. During 9th to
11th May,2002, they organized different competitions like quiz, recitation, essay, letter
writing, lecture competition etc. About 60 students of different schools took part in these
competitions. On 12th May,2002, a "Padayatra" was organized with the villagers, Panchayat

members, members of school development committee which was started from Uttar Bharat
Chandra Nagar High School ground to make the people aware about the danger of pollution
& its prevention. The participants made the procession with slogans, banners, flags &
festoons. On 13th May,2002, the troop staged various street dramas in different places such
as Garjania, Kalandepha, U.B.C. Nagar Bazar, Ratanbari etc. to draw the attention of
common people in different types of environmental pollution. On 14th May,2002, postering
was done with different impressive slogans in different places of U.B.C. Nagar Gaon
Panchayat, S.B.C. Nagar Gaon Panchayat, I.C. Nagar Goan Panchayat to make the mass
aware about the environment. The closing ceremony was held at local market with a
colourful cultural Programme consisting of songs, dramas, dances etc on the theme of
pollution- causes, remedies & Control.
Uttar Bharat Chandra Nagar Gram Panchayat, Belonia
As a part of the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001 -2002
Programme, Uttar Bharat Chandra Nagar Gram Panchayat in collaboration with Agnibina
origanised different programmes during 30th May to 5th June 2002.
On 30th May 2002, a safai abhijan was arranged at the local market and the
Panchayat Office ground. After that they planted 40nos. different valuable baby plants and
fenced them for protection. On 31st may, 2002 a sit & draw competition was held at
Panchayat Office in three groups. About 60 Nos. students participated in that competition. In
the afternoon Smt. Arati Shill, Panchayat pradhan distributed the prizes among the winners.
On 1st June, 2002 a mass postering was done at different places of the village with the
students of local high school to aware the people about environment. On 4th June, 2002 an
alochana sabha was organized at Kalandepa which was presided over by Smt. Arati Shill,
Panchayat Pradhan. About 200 villagers participated in this Sabha. The resource persons
made their discussion about the awareness of environment. On 5th June, 2002, they
organized a rally from U. B. C Nagar village to Kalandepa market with the students & the
villagers. They distributed about one thousand betel nut saplings among the participants of
the rally. At the evening a cultural Programme was held at Kalandepa Market.
Agnibina
On 30th May 2002, a safai programme was held jointly with Uttar Bharat Chandra
Nagar Gram Panchayat at the local Market area & Panchayat Office ground . After that they
planted some valuable baby plants and protected them with bamboo fencing. On 31st May,
2002, a sit & draw competition was organized where about 60 students participated in four
groups. At the evening the prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition. On
1st & 2nd June, 2002 postering was done in different places of the Gram Panchayat. On 4th
June 2002, an alochana sabha was organized at Kalandepa where Smt. Arati Shill,
Panchayat Pradhan & Sri Padarai Tripura, Members of Rajnagar Block Panchayat Samiti
were present as the president & chief guest respectively. The resource persons present in
this sabha delivered their lecture on Pollution of Environment, its control & remedies etc. At
the end of this Sabha about one thousand betel nut saplings were distributed among the
participants. A Padayatra was arranged on 5th June, 2002, jointly with Uttar Bharat Chandra
Nagar Gram Panchyat which was started from Uttar Bharat Chandra Nagar market
alongwith posters, banners etc. The Padayatra was ended at Kalandepa where Sri Padarai
Tripura delivered his lecture on Environment awareness. The programme was ended with
cultural programme on Environment.

National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-02
Folk Dev:
Under the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-2002 Programme they
organized an Environment Awareness Camp at Bholananda Vidya Bhaban, Kunjaban during
1st to 7th June, 2002. On 31st May the camp was inaugurated by Sri Indrajit Debnath,
member of Lichubagan Gaon Sabha. About 96 people from neighbouring areas like Natun
Basti, Gorkhabasti, Bholananda Palli, Khejurbagan, Barjala, Kunjaban Coloney participated
in this camp. The resource person Sri Debabrata Banerjee, the auditor of Folk Dev delivered
his lecture on the importance of awareness towards environment. On 5th June 2002 a sit &
draw competition was held among the children & the prizes were distributed among the
winners on 9th June, 2002.
Bankimnagar Women Development Society, Jirania
On 5th June, 2002, the World Environment Day was celebrated by organizing a one
day programme at the Panchayat hall of Jirania Block. The chairman, Gram Sabha Parishad
graced the programme. The programme was presided over by Sri Bhaskar Bhattacharjee,
Sr. Project Executive, RGVN, Agartala who was also been selected as the president to carry
out the programme on Environment Awareness among the rural masses. The other special
dignitaries who felt their valuable presence in the programme were – Sri Madhusudhan Das,
Sri P. Das, Sr. Physical trainer, J. B. School, Jirania. On this auspicious occasion Sri
Madhusudhan Das delivered his lecture highlighting the need of environment protection,
preservation of a clean environment from the deadly clutch of pollution in all form. In the
mean time the organization conducted a programme on plantation by the school children. In
addition to that a spot drawing competition was also held among the school children. In the
evening a colourful cultural programme was presented by the local talents of the locality. In
this programme the prizes were distributed among the winners by the resource persons. The
programme was ended by the vote of thanks given by Ms. Pratima Saha, president of this
organization.
Vivekananda Seva Sangsha, Aralia
As a part of the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001 – 2002
Programme Vivekananda Seva Sangstha conducted two public meetings at East Aralia area
on 26th June, 2002. The first meeting was held at the premises of Sevak Sangha in
collaboration with Neharu Yuba Kendra, West District & Sevak Sangha. Mr. Nantu Das,
Secretary, Sevak Sangha, presided over the meeting. Almost 75 Nos. of rural women were
present in that meeting. They expressed their opinion on rural sanitation, danger of pollution,
avoid polly bags, use of pure drinking water etc. Another meeting was held in front of the
East Aralia Gram Panchayat office which was presided over by Smt. Debi Sarkar, member
of East Aralia Gram Panchayat. On 7th June 2002, a seminar was organized at the premises
of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Vidya Bhawan, Aralia which was presided over by Smt. Nilima
Ghosh, pradhan of East Aralia Gram Panchayat. Another seminar was organized on 9th July,
2002 at the premises of Bidrohi Kabi Nazrul Vidya Bhavan, East Jogendranagar. Sri. Bijoy
Kr. Saha, in -charge of the School presided over the programme. The resource persons
present in these seminars delivered their lecture highlighting the use of garbages, avoiding
of poly bags, conservation of water resources etc. A quiz competition was held on 9th July
2002 among the students at Bidhorohi Kabi Najrul Vidya Bhavan. Sri Bijoy Kr. Saha presided
over the quiz contest. After the conclusion prizes were given away to the winners. On 12th

July 2002, an awareness rally was arranged on various roads of 4 nos. of Panchayat area
namely East Aralia, North Jogendranagar, Aralia & East Jogendranagar area. About 400
students & non-students rural youth participated in this rally with various types of awareness
play card, festoons etc. Side by side they organized five nos. Street dramas about
environment awareness in various spots of different Gram Panchayat during 11th June to
12th July 2002. These street dramas encouraged the rural people about natural sanitation,
conservation of pure drinking water, need of plantation etc.
Spandan, Agartala
On 5th June, 2002, the World Environment Day was observed with the plantation
programme at Nehalchandra Nagar Bazar, School and Primary Health Centre. Members of
this society alongwith panchayat members and pradhan planted about fifty nos. of fruit
plants. Again on 30th June, 2002, members of this society alongwith local people planted
trees on the road side of purathal, Rajnagar under Bishalgarh subdivision. On 5 th June, 2002
they also created immense awareness among the school students and local community of
Nehal Chandra Nagar through group discussion, speech & personnel discussion. Society
conducted two art competitions among the primary school students of Nehal Chandra Nagar
High School & Arabinda Nagar Senior Basic School on 20th & 25th June, 2002, respectively.
About 50 students participated in these competitions. At the end of these competitions prizes
were given away to the winners. Besides these four cultural awareness programmes on
environment were performed by the local artists of Bishalgarh subdivision at Kamthrna,
Nehal Chandranagar, Madhupur & Arbinda Nagar. The cultural programme consists of
songs, dances, drama & Jokes.
Vivekananda Club, Dharmanagar
On 5th June 2002, the World Environment Day was celebrated by organizing a
cleaning activity around the club area . After that a discussion was held on “Sustainable
Development’’. On 1st July 2002, the members of the Vivekananda Club planted different
valuable trees like Debdaru, Almond, Krishnachurra, Sandle etc. infront of Upthakhali P.H.C
and Vet. Hospital (Upthakali). Dr. Sunit Ranjan Nath, M.O.I.C. of Upthakhali P.H.C., Dr.
Nirmalendu Bhattacharjee and Dr. Kajali Sarkar, Asst. Surgeon of Upthakali Vet. Dispensary
also co-operated with them. After the plantation all the resource persons discussed on
necessities of trees to keep the environment free from pollution.
Belonia Vidyapith Higher Secondary School
During June – July 2002, all the students & teachers of Belonia Vidyapith School
organized different programme on Environment. They performed a cleaning programme at
Belonia Vidyapith School complex and its surroundings. They planted different valuable
saplings in different parts of Belonia, like B. V. School complex, Belonia Vidyapith Hostel
area & Baraj Coloney. They had done mass postering on preservation of environment and
also distributed leaflets in each house of Vidyapith Tilla village. Different street corner
meetings and street dramas on environment were conducted in different parts of Belonia
city. They organized a workshop for the students and inhabitants of the surroundings to
express the aims and objectives of NEAC 2001-2002. A sit & draw and a poster writing
competitions were also held among the students of different classes. They created a
beautiful flower garden at their school premises.

Bukhrai Samajik Sanstha
On 16th June, 2002, a sit & draw competition on “Nature & Environment” was held in
three age groups among the children of R. K. Nagar area. About 60 children participated in
this competition. A seminar was conducted on 23rd June, 2002, regarding environment
pollution. Sri Surendra Sharma presided over the meeting. Sri Anil Baran Majumder, vicechairman, Jirania Panchayat Samity was present as the chief guest of that seminar. Many
dignitaries were present in that seminar who delivered their lectures on environment. After
that a cultural programme was arranged by the members of the sangstha with songs,
recitation, dramas etc. The programme was ended with the distribution of prizes among the
winners. Besides these they also organized plantation programme on 1st July , 2002. The
Hon’ble Minister, Sri Pabitra Kar, Industries & commerce, Govt. of Tripura, presided over the
programme and delivered his valuable lecture on the importance of plantation and
environment.
Nikhil Tripura Mahila Mancha
On 25th May 2002, a Safai Programme was organized at Bitenban, a slum area, by
the members of the society and the children of that locality. They sprinkled bleaching powder
in that area and also awarded the local people about the necessity of cleanliness and health
and hygiene. On that day they also organized a padayatra with postering. On 29th May,
2002, the members of the society met with the chairman, Agartala Municipal council and
discussed about the need for regular clearing of the garbage dumped on roads and
modernization of the drainage system. The chairman also stressed on the need of public
awareness specially in the case of plastic use. On 30th May,2002, a discussion was held at
Shahid Bhaghat Singh Harijan Coloney on environment, health and hygiene and family
planning . Smt. Baby Gupta presided over the function. The People of Harizon Coloney
actively participated on that programme and listened the lecture delivered by Gynecologist
Dr. Mrs. Ila Lodh, Smt. Anju Sarkar, Smt. Amita Chowdhuri, Smt. Alpana Sinha. Leaflets on
environment were distributed among the participants. On 5th June, 2002 a procession was
arranged from Gyanmanjuri School to adjacent area with poster, banner etc. Boys & Girls of
Katakhal slum area, students of Gyanmanjuri School, members of Adibasi Mahila samity
participated in that procession. A safai programme was also held in Gyanmanjuri School and
adjacent area with sprinkling of bleaching powder. On 19th June,2002 they conducted a
discussion on environment awareness and pollution control, at Nutannagar Girl’s H. S.
School. The Headmaster presided over the meeting. On 22nd June 2002, another discussion
was held at Rajnagar High School which was presided over by Sri Banshipada Kolai,
Headmaster of this school. The resource persons delivered their lectures on environment,
and the students asked some related question which were answered by the speakers. On
27th June, the International Anti Drugs Day was celebrated by organizing a rally with

Pushparaj Club
On 23rd June, 2002, an Environment Awareness Programme was organized at
Baburbazar Madrassa, Kailasahar, which was inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Chandra Das,
Pradhan of Jubraj Nagar Gaon Panchayat, as the chief guest of the programme. Dr. J. Ahir,
District RCH Officer, Dr. S. N. Chowdhury, Medical Officer RGM Hospital, Mr. K. Darlong,
Rang Asst. Forest Department, Kailashar, were present as the guest of honour. The
secretary of Pushparaj club in his speech discussed about the need of environment &
sentinel development. The dignitaries made their discussed on forestation. Another seminar
on sustainable development was held at Yeasi Khoura School on 25th June, 2002.
They conducted two environmental sit & draw competitions among the children of Pushparaj
Academy and the students of Jamia Madrassa at Jamia Madrassa & Yeasi Khoura School
on 24th & 26th June, 2000, respectively. A rally on environment was arranged from
Baburbazar to Tilabazar road on 29th June, 2002. At last on 30th June, 2002, a
vanamohatsab programme was held around the Pushparaj Academy Complex.
Centre for Human Development & Rural Technology, Agartala
On 5th June, 2002, the World Environment Day was observed by organizing a sit &
draw competition in three age groups at their East Aralia Office. About 200 children
participated in this competition. A seminar on sustainable Development and water pollution
was held among the students, Guardians & villagers at Devipur H. S. School, Kamalasagar
on 26th July 2002. The dignitaries who felt their valuable presence in that Programme were
Dr. Jogesh Das, Dr. P. K. Bhattacharjee, Dr. D. Bhowmik & Prof. K. N. Das. On 3rd July,
2002, a programme on “Environment Awareness & Vanamohatsab” was organized with the
students, teachers & villagers at No.2 N.C.Colony J. B. School, Bishalgarh. The resource
persons delivered their valuable speech on water pollution, healthcare & drinking water.
After that they planted valuable trees around the school ground. Another seminar on
“Environment Pollution & Forestation” was also held at Sadhur Tilla Secondary School on
the same day. About 400 Nos. Students & guardians actively participated in that seminar.
Vivekananda Club, Agartala
On 5th June, 2002, a rally on Environment Awareness was arranged from club
ground to Durga Chowmuhani area with the club number & the local people. They also
conducted Patha Sabha & Patha Natak on that day. Besides these they organized a safai
abhijan at Biren Dutta Setu area. On 8th June, 2002, the members of the society planted
different trees at the proposed park near Biren Dutta Setu. On 9th June, 2002, morning a sit
& draw competition among the children was held in three groups at the club premises. At the
evening a cultural programme was performed by the local talents. Sri Sankar Das,
Chairperson, Agartala Municipal Council was present as the president. At the end of the
programme the prizes were distributed among the winners.

National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-02
Srishti Samajik Sangstha, Agartala
As a part of National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) 2002 – 2002,
Srishti Samajik Sangstha organized a programme on sustainable development at
Laxmilonga Goan Panchayat on 9th June, 2002. The programme was presided over by Smt.
Joyati Rani Biswas, Pradhan, Laxmilonga Goan Panchayat. Sri Gopal Das, Hon’ble Food
minister, Govt. of Tripura was present as the chief guest whereas Sri Swapan Kr. Das,
B.D.O. Mohanpur Block was present as the special guest of that programme. The
programme was inaugurated by Sri Manoranjan Debnath, president of this sangstha by flag
hosting. The vice president of this Sangstha in his introductory speech discussed the need of
keeping environment free from pollution and also advised the people to work always for
healthy environment. The special dignitaries present in that programme delivered their
lecture on how to keep the environment free from pollution.
Voluntary Social Development Organization, Sabroom
On 5th June, 2002, the World Environment Day was observed by organizing a
general meeting and plantation of trees in front of the organization office. The president of
this organization & Purba Harina gaon Panchayat Pradhan planted various trees at the Gaon
Panchayat area. The member of the organization Sri Krishna Majumder & Sri Tapas
Bhowmik discussed about the utility of tree to protect the balance of environment. On 6 th
June, 2002, a meeting/discussion was held at Uttar Kaladepa, Budhya Mangle Para which
was inaugurated by Mr. Harendra Tripura, the former panchyat Upa Pradhan, with lightning
of candle. The TTAADC members, Mr. Chandi Charan Tripura was present as the chief
guest. The chief guest in his lecture discussed about the pollution of environment, causes &
it’s remedy. On the same day another programme was organized at Nalsing Sadar Para J.
B. School (South Kaladepa). The programme was presided over by Sri Harendra Kr. Tripura,
Upa Pradhan. The Headmaster of this school, students & Panchayat members were present
in this programme. At the end of the programme the members of this organization played a
drama based on environment. On 9th June 2002, an awareness campaign was conducted at
Niveditya which was presided over by Sri Nitya Bhowmik, teacher. Mrs. Manika Das,
pradhan, Guachand Nandi Gram Panchyat was present as the chief guest. After that an art
competition on environment was held among the students in two groups. The president of
this programme delivered his speech addressing the people to come forward to keep the
environment clean & green and also appealed to all to plant three trees instead of one. At
the end of this programme prizes were given away to the winners of the competition.
Ranirbazar
Vidyamandir
On 28th February, 2002, the National Science day was observed by organizing a rally
on environmental awareness with some play cards. All the students & teachers participated
in this rally to aware the people on the importance of clean & green environment. After that
rally a seminar was held at Ranirbazar Town Hall where Mr. Jadab Majumder, Secretary,
Science Club, Ranirbazar Vidyamandir, Mr. Sanjib Roy, Teacher, Raigang Girl’s High School
& Mr. Chunilal Saha, Chairman, Ranirbazar Panchayat delivered their lectures on
Environment Awareness. During 3rd June to 16th June, 2002, students of this school planted
26 Nos. Debdaru trees around the school ground and also protected them with bamboo

fencing. On 14th June, 2002, an art & quiz competitions were conducted in three different
groups. Top three places were awarded prizes. After these competitions a seminar on
sustainable development was organized in the school. Students, teachers and the local
people from Ranirbazar, Khayerpur, Bridhanagar area participated in this programme.
Ramnagar Mahila Samity, Dharmanagar
On 8th June, 2002, an awareness camp on Environment Pollution was organized at
Dakshin Deocherra Anganwadi Centre with village women and farmers. Mrs. Usha Rani
Nath, member of the society, presided over the camp. The inaugural speech was delivered
by Mr.Debendra Debnath, secretary of Agvadyat Sangha, Deocherra. The dignitaries
present in that camp highlighted the importance of plantation with regard to keep
environment free from pollution in their speech. Another awareness camp on Environment
Pollution was held at Dakshin Padmabil on 9th June, 2002, which was presided over by Miss
Swapna Rani Nath. The resource persons present in the programme were Mr. Nirmal
Debnath, Ayurvedic Pharmacist, P.G.A.D. & Miss Sita Rani Nath, N.R.C.V, N.Y.K,
Dharmanagar who made their discussion on various types of air pollution & its effect on
human body, water pollution , Plastic Pollution etc. They organized a Puppet Show on 4th
July 2002, at Chamtila, Panisagar to make the people aware of pollution. Finally on 14th July,
2002, a one day camp was conducted with the members of self help groups from Ramnagar,
Deocherra, Rowa Gram Panchayat at Dakshin Ramnagar landless coloney Jr. Basic School.
Smt. Sabitri Malakar, President of Ramnagar Mahila Samity, presided over the campaign.
The dignitaries made their discussion on the proper use of insecticides & possible harm that
may happen for improper & unscientific use of it.
Bishramganj H.S. School, Bishramganj
The students & teachers of this school participated in a science fair during 7 th to 12th
March, 2002, at Office Tilla Class XII School. Their project on that fair was against the
Environment Pollution that happens from the Factories & Mills etc. On 5th June,2002, they
observed the World Environment Day by planting many fruit plants & other valuable plants
like mehagani, teak etc. in an out side of the school area. The teachers of this school
influenced the students for the plantation on their own ground distributing each of them few
more plants. On 21st June, 2002, they made walling against the destroy of forest in and
around the school area. Lastly on 18th July, 2002, they organized four street dramas played
by “Dakkhini” on a gathered place in one side of Bishramganj market to aware the people
from the polluted environment and also from the anti-social activities.
Blind and Handicapped Association
On 5th July 2002, they organized a seminar on Environment at Bhaghan I.C.D.S.
School under the presidentship of Smt Bela Rani Dey, member, Bhaghan Gaon Panchayat.
The resource persons who felt their presence on that seminar were Sri Meghnath Debnath,
Teacher & Treasurer, VHAT, Agartala, Sri Tapan Kr. Bhattacharjee, secretary B.H.A, Ajit
Kumar Paul, president , Science Club , Kadamtala. They explained about the pollution of air,
the role of forests in our life, the necessity of pure water, plastic pollution and how to prevent
from it. After the seminar the participants took part on a Padayatra covering all the main

areas of Bhaghan. On 18th July, 2002, they conducted another seminar at recreation center
of Moheshpur Tea Estate . The function was presided over by Shri Samar Munda, local
social activist. Among the resource persons Sri Ajoy Tanti narrated about the ill effects of
increasing pollution of environment and what to do in this context. A puppet show was also
arranged on that seminar. On 11th July, 2002, an Environment Awareness Campaign was
also held at Brojendranagar High School which was presided over by Smt. Sima Rani Das.
A huge women folk participated on that camp. The dignitaries present on that camp
suggested the participants to keep the house clean, drink safe water and also stressed
about plastic pollution. After that a padayatra was arranged with the participants.
Birendranagar Govt. H. S. School
On 25th June, 2002, the students & Teachers of this school observed Banamhotsav
by planting different valuable trees surrounding the school. On that occasion the senior
teachers discussed on the importance of forestry & Banamahotsav. After that programme a
sit & draw competition was held among the students of secondary standard. The programme
of World Environment Day was celebrated on 9th June, 2002, in their school. On that
occasion a sit & draw competition was also conducted among the students of primary
standard.
N. S. S, Agartala
On 27th July, 2002, an awareness programme on “Give Earth a Chance” was
organized at Nowagaon H. S. School, Ranirbazar. Smt. Gita Das, Headmaster of the school
presided over the programme. The Pradhan of local Panchayat was present as the chief
guest. Many resource persons were present in that programme who made their discussion
on the importance of plantation to protect the environment & next generation from pollution.
After that a cultural programme was performed by the students & the villagers, present in
that programme. At the end of the programme students & local people planted about
hundred saplings surrounding the school. Similar type of awareness programme was also
held at Chebri H. S. School, Khowai, on 29th July, 2002.
Ghoroa Loka Samrkriti Samsad, Agartala
Under the NEAC 2001–2002 programme, Ghoroa Loka Sanskriti Samsad organized
different programmes at Barjala High School on 22nd July, 2002. Students of Barjala J. B.
School, Durjoynagar High School, Patunagar High School, Madhya Bhubanban H/S School
participated in these programme. They organized debate, essay & art competitions among
the students in different age groups. The theme of the debate competition was “polluted air,
water & deforestation is harmful for human life “ whereas that of essay competition was “
Importance of World Environment Day”. At the end of the programme the prizes were
distributed among the winners.
Nivedita Women’s Welfare Society, Agartala
On 5th June, 2002, as a part of World Environment Day, 2002, a fairly extensive
plantation Programme for planting medicinal plants like neem, Amloaki, Boira, Arjun etc. was

undertaken in the Kisholay Primary School Complex, Kashipur with the help of the
Headmaster of that school. The students & local women participants planted the seedlings of
the medicinal plants in the school complex as well as surrounding of the school. After the
plantation programme, a brief discussion was held where Smt. Arati Kar, Secretary of the
Society, the Headmaster of the school & some members of the society discussed the
importance of the World Environment Day & the need for conservation of the Forest,
Plantation & protection of Environment at large. On 1st July, 2002, an alochana sabha on ill
effects of indiscriminate use of polythene bags & plastic related hazards was organized at
Gandhigram Balwari School. Smt. Sankari Acharjee, Gram Pradhan of Purba Gandhigram
presided over the Sabha while Sri Kamala Rn. Chowdhury, a renowned personality of that
area inaugurated the programme by lightning of candle. The meeting was attended by sixty
women & girls of that area. The resource persons made their discussion on how to reduce
the use of polythene carry bags & its alternative arrangements/ substituents etc. Apart from
the lectures & interactive session with the expert, there was also a small cultural programme
performed by the local talents.
Sejuti Sanskritik Chakra
An Awareness Programme was organized at East R. K. Pur Girls High School on 7th
May 2002. All the members of the society and the students of this school participated in this
programme. The resource persons present on that programme discussed the importance of
keeping the Environment clean & green. In this programme different cultural activities
consisting of songs, drama, dances were performed by the students of this school. On 14th
May 2002, they arranged a vanomohatsav programme at Sejuti Sanskritic Chakra &
Shamsan Ghat of Fulkumari. Many valuable plants such as neem, pine, etc were planted on
this occasion. They also organized a “Safai Abhijan” from Sejuti Sankritic Chakra to
Shamsan ghat of Fulkumari. Large number of people of that area participated in that abhijan.
They also made a ecological garden in front of this society.
Chandrai Para ClassXII School, Dhalai
A safai abhijan was arranged on 26th June, 2002, at the School boundary & a part of
the Ambassa market with the students & teachers of this school. On 27th June, 2002, a rally
was organized with play card & banners going round the Ambassa market and locality. All
the students & teachers of this school, villagers participated in this rally. Liflates were
distributed by the students to the wayfarers. A seminar was held on 29th June, 2002, at the
school campus under the presidentship of Headmaster Sri Chitta Debbarma . The teaching
staffs took part on that seminar, made their discussion on the various process of
environment preservation. On 4th July, 2002, a plantation work was done in the school
boundary which was guided by the Headmaster of the school. A garden was also made at
the entrance of the school. On 12th July, 2002 , a quiz competition was conducted among
the students in two groups in the campus hall of the school. The prizes were awarded
among the winners by the Headmaster of this school.
M. B. B. College (Deptt. of Chemistry)
Environment Protection Group (EPG) in the Deptt. of Chemistry, M.B.B. College,
Agartala, executed the project entitled “Exploration of Medicinal Plants in Tripura” as a part
of the National Environment Awareness Campaign , 2001 – 2002 during December 2001 to
July 2002. The project was divided into three sections Viz. Essay competition, field work &
one day seminar.

An open essay competition for the students of Colleges & University of Tripura on “
Plant Medicines in the twenty first century” was invited through press statement in the local
dailies within 20th February, 2002. A plantation work was done during last week of June 2002
by which about 50 medicinal plant saplings were planted around the vacant Deodar garden
to the east of Bijnan Bhawan, M. B. B. College. On 10th July 2002, a one day seminar on “
Medicinal Plants in the twenty-first century” was held at the Chemistry gallery of Bijnan
Bhawan, M. B. B. College which was presided over by Sri S. Rombei, Principal, M. B.B.
College. The seminar was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. K. R. Dhiman, Jt. Director,
ICAR Research Station, Lembucharra by lightning a candle. The dignitaries who made their
discussion on Medicinal Plant were Dr. Nalinikant Chakraborty, renowned Botanist, Prof. B.
Dinda, Tripura University, Dr. K. S. Sethi, Divisional Forest Officer (Research), Govt. of
Tripura, Dr.P. Roy, reader in Botany, Govt. Women’s College. At the end of the seminar the
prizes & certificates were distributed among the winners of the essay competition.
Abalamban
On 20th July, 2002 a one day non-residential workshop under NEAC 2001 – 2002
was organized at the premises of Apnaghar, old age home, Barjala. About 60 Nos. students
from Nutan Nagar H. S. School, Barjala High School, Durjoy Nagar High School & Draft
Council Centre participated in this workshop. The Hon’ble Commissioner of Science
Technology & Environment and Member Secretary of Tripura State Pollution Control Board
was present as the chief guest and inaugurated the programme with the lightning of
inauguration candle. This was followed by the opening song presented by Tanusree Das, a
child artist of the locality. The programme was presided over by Mrs. Milan Prava Majumder,
President of Abalamban. The special guests who felt their presence in the workshop were
Mr. P. L. Ghosh, Project Director, S & T Deptt. Sri Sanjay Bannerjee, president, Mishore
Bigyan Parishad, Mr. A. K. Sinha, Conservator of Forest, Sri Sumanta Chakraborty, AEE,
Tripura State Pollution Control Board. They delivered their lecture on Control of Air Pollution,
Engineer & Environment, protection of water, importance of plantation of trees etc.
Renaissance Club, Udaipur
On 24th March 2002, the members of Renaissance Club organized a ‘sit & draw’
competition in three categories under the “National Environment Awareness Campaign”
2001 – 2002. The students of different school participated in this competition. On 18th April,
2002, they organized two street dramas at Banduar Bazar and Dropgate Bazar on
plantation and protection of plant. Sri Subhash Karmakar, Gao Pradan was present as the
chief guest in this programme. At the end of this programme different baby plants were
distributed among the fifty villagers. On 5th June 2002, the World Environment Day was
celebrated by organizing an alochana sabha, cultural programme and prize distribution
ceremony at their club premises. All these programme were presided over by Sri Nitai Deb,
president of Renaissance Club. In this programme Sri. Debabrata Sukla Das, Scientific
Officer, Department of Science, Technology & Environment, South Tripura was present as
the chief guest and the president of the ‘Ecological Society’ Smt. Maya Mukherjee was
present as the special guest. The artists of the cultural organization, ‘Chataria’ performed
different songs and a drama on environment Awareness. On 6th June, 2002, they planted
different valuable plants at the surroundings of Tripura Sundari School. Sri. Debabrata Sukla
Das, Scientific Officer, DST&E, South Tripura and the company Inchage of 5 th TSR Battalion
were present as guest of honour in this plantation programme.

Adarsha Mahila Kalyan Kendra , Madhya Badharghat
Under the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001–2002 Programme, they
organized an awareness campaign on “Sustainable Development’ on 30th July 2002. Sri
Subhash Ch. Das, Secretary, “Agragami Samaj Kendra”, Abhoynagar inaugurated the
programme by flag hosting. Sri Gopal Das, Hon’ble Food Minister, Govt. of Tripura was
present as the chief guest of the programme. Sri Subhash Das in his introductory speech
discussed about the need of keeping the environment free from pollution. He also advised
the people of Madhya Badharghat area to work always for healthy environment. The chief
guest discussed about the various process to keep the environment pollution free. The
secretary & all the member of this society conducted the whole programme with great
sincerity.
Aranyak
A one day training proragmme on environment awareness was conducted on 4th
May 2002, at No. 2 Karaiyamura S. B. School. About 50 students participated in this training
programme. Sri Asim Kanti Saha, Headmaster of this school delivered his lecture on the
various aspects of environment pollution. Another training programme was organised on 7th
May 2002 at South Bagma Samatal Para H. S. School, Bagma, where about 75 students
participated alongwith the teachers & the members of the society. Sri D. S. Das, Scientific
Officer, DST&E and Sri Tapan Mazmudar Eco Club In-charge made their discussion on
different types of pollution & its control. On 18th May 2002, a public meeting was held
among the villagers at Karaiyamura ( Araynak JFM project area) North Part. The meeting
was presided over by Sri Pradip Das. A sit & draw competition was conducted at
Vivekananda art school, Bagma on 19th May 2002. About 23 students participated in this
competition. The prizes were given away among the winners. Lastly on 5th June, 2002, the
World Environment Day was celebrated at their club premises. At the presence of club
members & local people they discussed what are the causes of the Environment Pollution &
how to reduce the problem and what is their duty.
Sanghadip, Dharmanagar
On 5th june,2002, the World Environment Day was observed by organizing various
programmes at the sanghadip training institute. A sit & draw & essay competition on roles &
duties of students on prevention of environment from pollution were held among the students
of different classes. At 3 pm. a workshop on the gravity & importance of World Environment
Day was conducted at the Sanghadip training institute. About 114 Nos. participants took part
in the programme. Sri Kripamoy Deb, president, Sanghadip & Sri Uttam Chowdhury,
secretary Sanghadip kept their valuable speech regarding the importance of the day. On
20thJune, 2002, a cleaning programme was conducted by the members & volunteers of
Sanghadip from D.K. Rd. to Baitang Bari Road. 56 Nos. of ordinary well under Sripur,
Dewanpasa & Haplong GPs were purified in scientific method. On the 30th June, 2002, a
Patha Sabha was arranged at Haplong T.E.& Anandabazar regarding the environment
pollution & how to prevent it. On 8th July 2002, a plantation was made by the members &
volunteers of Sanghadip. Verities kind of Medicinal plants were distributed among 205
families with a slogan “Tree is life, so plant tree & save the lives”. An awareness campaign
was held at Balibhum on 24th July 2002 which was presided over by Sri Biresh Debbarma.
Few books on prevention of pollution were distributed among the people. At last on 29th July,
2002, a seminar on how to keep our environment clean & green was organized with the
teachers, social workers & students in the conference hall of this society. About 112 nos.

distributed among the participants.
Socio Economic Welfare Society, Jalabasa , North Tripura
An awareness campaign was organized at Kunjanagar J. B. School on 26th July
2002. The programme was presided over by Sri Dilip Kumar Malakar, teacher in-chage of
the school . Sri Ranindra Kumar Sinha ,vice president of the society was present as the chief
guest whereas Sri Dhirendra Kumar Sinha, Secretary of the Society was present as the
special guest of the programme. The resource persons present in that programme
expressed their views on the close relation between a healthy environment and good health.
Another awareness campiagn on “ keep our environment clean and green” was held at
Noydrone coloney J. B. School on 3rd july, 2002 . The dignitaries who felt their presence in
that programme were Sri Nil Kanta Paul , In charge of the school , Sri Babul Das, Panchayat
member , Sri Dhirendra Kumar Sinha, Secretary of the society . They delivered their lectures
expressing their views on maintaining greenery and clean environment. On 6th Juy, 2002
they organized a cultural programme as a part of this National Awareness Campaign 2001 –
2002 at Jalabasa Community Hall which was presided over by local panchyat member Smt.
Joyanti Singha. The cultural programme was full off songs, dances, and dramas .
Biathai H. S.(+2 Stage ) School
As a part of the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001 – 2002 a quiz and
play card making competitions were organized among the school students on 17th June,
2002. A programme on popular talk was organized on the same day in the school campus
with the local people, teachers and students of this school. The president of parent-teachers
committee was present as the chief guest in this programme. Sri Ranjaneswar Pal, Teacherin-Charge, Sri Subash Chandra Nath, Convener Science Club, and other selected speakers
discussed on Water Pollution, Air Pollution, Noise Pollution , Plastic Pollution , Solid
Wastes, etc. Distribution of prizes were made among the winners of different competitions.
On 21st June, 2002 about 20 nos of valuable trees were Planted in front of the School
building by the teachers, guests and students and also necessary protection of the plant
were made . A colourful rally with festoons and play cards was organized on that day. About
500 students of this school and Bilthai J. B. School participated on that rally by the guidance
of the teachers. Besides this a street corner campaign was also conducted at Bilthai and
Chamtila on Water Pollution.
Disha
On 1st May, 2002 an awareness campaign on “environment & health” was organized
at Tripura Sundari Boys Hostel, Udaipur, About 72 nos tribal – non tribal local people
participated in that programme. Dr. Rajat Subhra Das, in his valuable speech discussed the
various aspects of health service. At the end of this programme a health camp was
organized & the medicines were given with free of cost. A sit & draw competition among the
students was held in four groups at Ajachak Ashram on 5th May, 2002. About 50 students
participated in this competition. On 19th May, 2002 an alochana Sabha on environment was
organized at Udaipur town hall which was presided over by Dr. Mridul Kanti Paul. Sri
Debabra Sukla Das, Scientific Officer, DST&E was present as the special guest. About 400
villagers took part in this sabha. When the discussion was over a cultural programme was
performed by the local people. At the end of this programme, Prizes were given away among

Bodhan Social Welfare Organisation, Khowai
On 5th June, 2002 Bodhan Social Welfare Organization celebrated World
Environment Day by organizing a colorful rally with the 100 students & teachers of various
schools in the Jambura & Singhicharra Nagar Panchayat area. On 15th June, 2002, they
conducted a seminar among the students & local people in the Khowai Hospital premises. A
safai Programme around Khowai Hospital was also arranged in the public interest on 18 th
June, 2002 by which they cleaned the garbage & solid wastes accumulated in that area. To
make the drinking water sources clean they cleared the three numbers of ponds around
Khowai Govt. Boys School & Kalibari Subhas park on 25th June 2002. Finally on 26th June
2002 they organized a sit & draw competition on environment in their organization office
among the nursery to class VII students.
N. C. Institution, Sonamura
On 16th July, 2002 a “Sit & Draw” competition was conducted as a part of
National Environment Awareness Campaign 2002. The students of different schools
participated in this competition . The prizes were also distributed among the winners on the
same day. On 30th July, 2002 a rally was organized with the students, teachers & the local
people to aware them about environment with banners, festoons and slogans. Assistant
Headmaster Md. Kamrul Islam of this institution, Headmaster of Sonamura Girl’s H. S.
School, and Smt. Pratima Roy, Chairperson of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat Samity also
participated in this rally. They also organized a plantation programme in three selected spots
like Sonamura Motor Stand, Ramkrishna Ashram premises and the Town Venue of this
Institution by which about 350 saplings were planted. At the end of the day they arranged a
seminar on Environment Awareness. In this seminar Mr. A. Debbarma, S.D.O(Civil) and
Smt. Pratima Roy, Chairperson of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat were present as the special
guests. They delivered their lecture on environment pollution. Mr. Narayan Ch. Saha,
secretary, Science Club, NCI delivered his lecture on the importance of environment and the
protection of it. Assistant Headmaster Mr. Kamrul Islam, NCI presented his valedictory
speech.
National Advanced Welfare Society, Agartala
An awareness campaign was organized on 11th July, 2002 at Chowrangee Sr. Basic
School, South Badharghat with the help of local club members, school staffs & students. The
programme was chaired by the Headmaster of this school as the chief guest. Former MLA
respected Sri Yadav Majumder made his short & vital speech on environment pollution. Sri
Yamuna Biswas, Pradhan & other health & industrial officials also delivered their attractive &
appreciated speeches to influence the ignorant villagers about environment pollution. After
the interaction of present speakers to the spectators, one quiz competition was performed
jointly by the society members & teachers among the students. Ten selected prizes were
distributed among the winners. After this programme the students of class VII & VIII were
taken away at Sipahijala sanctuary situated at Bishgalgarh block and they were advised to
be conscious about preservation of forest. Celebrating a forestation festival the programme
was ended up with a short drama.

Tribeg Social Welfare Mission
A one day workshop on “Sustainable Development” was organized at the premises
of Sanghasree Club on 21st July 2002 as a part of the “National Environment Awareness
Campaign”. The programme of the workshop was started at 12.30 pm with an inaugural
song by local artist. The honorable guests were welcomed by the Director of Workshop
Programme, Sri Indrajit Sinh. In his inaugural speech he had dealt various aspects such as
aging, Sickness and death. The Programme was presided over by Sri S. R. Chowdhury,
president of Tribal Social Welfare Mission. Sri Dulal Dey, Secretary, of this organization
expressed his view about the utility of protection of environment in his speech. Sri Sanjay
Banerjee, an expert and resource person delivered a valuable lecture on the environment
and how to protect it for our survival. Another resource person, Sri. P. L. Ghosh in his
speech explained the different aspects of environment pollution. Smt. Jaba Chakraborty, coordinator, Nehru Yuba Kendra gave her vivid description on environment pollution. She also
proposed a concrete proposal and Motivation for controlling pollution. At the end of the
programme Sri S. R. Chowdhury, president, Tribeg Social Welfare Mission, gave his vote of
thanks to all participants, guests and members of Sanghasree Club.
Society for Welfare & Social Research, Agartala
Society for Welfare & Social Research organized different programmes on
sustainable development for two days commencing from 24th July to 25th July, 2002. On 24th
July, 2002 an essay competition on sustainable development and a art competition on
environment were organized among the students at Tebaria High School, Mohanpur. In both
these competitions more them 60 students took part actively. On 25th July the 1st Programme
was started with the plantation of medicinal plants all around the school & near by area with
the active participation of students, teachers, members of Eco-club, resource persons,
parents& guardians. After the programme being completed a big rally consisting of the
above persons & other villagers was arranged to create environmental mass awareness. In
the third phase of the programme a seminar was organized on sustainable development
which was chaired by smt. Namita Debbarma, Headmistress of this school. The dignitaries
who made their discussion on the above subject were Sri P. L. Ghosh, Project Director,
TREAD, Sri. T. M. Ganguly, Retd. Addl. Director, Department of Industries, Pradhan of
Laxmibil Gram Panchayat. At the end of the session prizes were distributed among the
winners of essay & art competition.
Ganadoot Social Welfare Centre
On 5th June 2002 the “World Environment Day” was observed by organizing three
street corners at Durga Chowmuhani, Bijoy Kumar Chowmuhani and Advisor Chowmuhani.
In these street corners Sri Subrata Datta, Secretary of Ganadoot Social Welfare Centre and
others members of this organization expressed their views about the World Environment
Day and appealed to save our environment from pollution. A door to door campaign
programme was conducted on 9th June,2002 for the distribution of leaflets with some
guidelines to save the environment from pollution with the help of local people of ward No. 7
of Agartala Municipal Council. On 16th July 2002 a seminar was organized at Krishnanagar
Boys Club on the theme of “Give Earth a Chance”. About fifty participants including the
students of Prabahaman Shiksha Kendra and the local people of Krishnanagar participated
in this seminar. The programme was presided over by Mr. Nepal Kar, chairman, Nagarik
Committee of Ward No. 7. Mr. Shalil Debbarma, chairman of Urban Bank was present as the
chief guest where as Mr. Nidhu Bhusan Hazra and Mr. Debabrata Debroy, teacher Pragati

Niet Viana, Agartala
On 5th June 2002, the World Environment Day was celebrated by organizing a
programme on “Clean your own area & environment” at Jogendranagar. A one day
preparatory workshop was held on 31st May 2002, which includes a door to door campaign
on the above theme. The resource persons attended from Jogendranagar, Jagharimura,
Ranirbazar, Mohanpur, Agartala Town & Bishalgarh trained the members of the
organization and other participants about the subject. The workshop was presided over by
the president of this organization, Sri Krishnendu Deb. In the interaction meet some
participants had boldly revealed that the stagnant water problem is the main cause of
Malaria & other water born diseases. Some participants pointed out that the parking system,
servicing & cleaning system of vehicle is not upto the mark which causes water pollution. In
this workshop the discussion was also carried out on proper management of garbage , Air
Pollution & Plantation.From 10th June 2002, the members of this organization started
random postering with different slogans at the Bazar area, College area, office & town
center, bus stop etc & all gathering area of Agartala & Bishalgarh. Finally from 28th July to 6th
Aug, 2002 they planted 28 nos of new trees at Nagraicherra High School with the active
participation of students & teachers. The trees were also protected with bamboo fencing.
Teliamura H. S (+2) School
During 5 –12 July, 2002, the students & teachers of Teliamura H. S. School planted
150 Nos. of Arjun, Debdaru, Chapa & other flowering plants in the school premises. For the
protection of these trees they also made bamboo fencing around them. On 13th & 14th July
2002, they organized many street dramas at Karailong, Tuichindraibari, Moharcherra,
Kalyanpur, Teliamura area. Many students took part in these street dramas under the
guidance of Sri Monoranjan Gope, teacher of this school. A seminar was organized on 19th
July, 2002 in the campus hall of this institution. Many dignitaries of the locality were present
in the seminar and delivered their valuable speech on the danger of environment pollution &
the procedure to overcome this type of danger. On 17th July 2002 an art competition was
held among the students with a view to make them conscious of the environment pollution. A
colorful rally was arranged on 23rd July, 2002 with the active participation of students & the
local people. Besides this the students & teachers of this institution also made some play
cards & displayed them at the different places of Teliamura.

Teresa Social Welfare Organization
A seminar cum discussion was organised at madhya Laxmibill on 12 th July 2002, as
a part of “National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001- 2002 “. The objective of this
seminar was to increase the awareness among the local villagers. About 90 local people
participated in this seminar. The programme was presided over by Sri Jogesh Das, member
of Bishalgarh Gao Panchayat. In this Seminar Sri. Eitu Debnath, Secretary of Teresa Social
Welfare Organization expressed his views about the clean and green Environment and it’s
Pollution which was followed by the speech of Sri. Gouranga Chandra Debnath, advisor of
this organization. In his speech he pointed out some guidelines to control the environment
pollution. A “Sit & Draw “ competition was conducted among the local children on 14th and
21st July, 2002 in their office premises at Ranirgaon. About 36 children participated in this
competition. On 30th July, 2002 a ‘prize distribution ceremony” was organized at the office
premises of this organization. In this ceremony the prizes and certificates were distributed
among the winners of sit & draw competition.
Ramkrishna Mission Vidyalaya
Ramkrishna Mission Vidyalaya celebrated the “World Environment Day” in
association with Ramkrishna Pathsala, P. L. Home Primary School and P. L. Home Senior
Basic School by organizing different competitions and cultural programmes. During July,
2002 two Drawing competitions were organized at Ramkrishna Mission Vidyalaya, and P. L.
Home Senior Basic School in three categories. A Quiz competition was held at Ramkrishna
Mission Vidyalaya in two categories. A speech competition was also conducted at
Ramkrishna Pathsala. The prize distribution ceremony of each competition was held at their
own school. The special prizes alongwith one sapling of Bakul tree were given to 1st, 2nd &
3rd rank holder of each competition and the consolation prizes were given to all participants.
In this programme Globe, Maps and charts were presented to the in charge of the concerned
school for their activities in the “ National Environment Awareness Campaign 2002 “.
Paschim Zilla Saksharata Samiti, Agartala
On 5th June , 2002 Pashim Zilla Saksharata Samiti observed “ World Environment
Day ’’ at Sukanta Academy with the help of Ark & Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti by organizing
a sit & draw competition among the children. About 289 children participated in this
competition. The prizes were distributed among the best ten participants. A plantation
programme was conducted by which they planted about 140 nos. medicinal plants at the
different blocks of West Tripura District.
Bharat Gayan Vigyan Samiti, Agartala
The World Environment Day, 2002 was celebrated by organizing a sit & draw
competition among the children on 5th June, 2002 at Sukanta Academy in collaboration with
Ark & Pashim Zilla Saksharata Samiti. About 289 children participated in three groups.
Prizes were distributed among the best ten participants. During June, 2002 the members of
the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti with local people planted about 600 valuable trees at
different places of Dharmanagar, Udaipur, Kailashahar, Belonia, Ambassa & Kumarghat. On

9th August 2002 they arranged a colorful rally at Agartala. In spite of this four street corners
were also organized at Kadamtala & Panisagar area with a street drama covering about

ARK – Science & Social Organization
On 5thJune, 2002 ARK in collaboration with Paschim Zilla Saksharata Samity &
Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samity organized a sit & draw competition among the children at
Sukanta Academy as a part of the celebration of World Environment Day. About 289
children participated in this competition. The prizes were distributed among the best ten
participants. A seminar on Environment Awareness Generation was held on 7th June 2002
with the students at Jogendranagar. About 160 students participated in this seminar. Another
seminar on “Aar Nay Hiroshima – Aar Nay Nagasaki” was also held on 6th August, 2002 at
Sukanta Sishu Niketan where about 137 students & youths were present. During June – July
2002 a cleaning programme was conducted at Jogendranagar Girls’ H/S School area,
Pradhan Para & Jogendranagar Primary Hospital area. They also planted different medicinal
plants at Jogendranagar G. P. Jogendranagar Primary Hospital and Sukanta Sishu Niketan
Premises. On 9th August, 2002 a Central rally was arranged at Agartala with a colorful
procession. Five street corners were conducted with street drama in Dukli & Bishalgarh
block area covering 3000 population. Besides these they completed postering on
Environment Awareness at different market places.
Fatikroy Class XII School
On 1st July, 2002 a rally was organized by the N.S.S. Unit of Fatikroy class XII School
with the help of sports personal and the N.S.S. Unit of Pabiacharra Class XII School in quest
of “ Water – Elixir of Life”. The rally started from Fatikroy Class XII School & come back.
During 2nd July to 8th July, 2002 a forestry week (Aranya Saptaha) was performed by the
Volunteers of N.S.S. and other students and members of staff by planting trees in the
surrounding school and also a beautiful garden has been framed. A weeklong programme
from 9th July, 2002 was organized by the N.S.S. Unit of Fatikroy Class XII School on “ Water
is life”. The volunteers campaigned from door to door to aware the people about the utility of
water and discussed with them not to waste water and take every possible measures to
clean the pond and well for promoting healthy life. They also made the awareness of taking
drinking water by boiling it.
Aikyatan Play Centre, Udaipur
On 5th July 2002 a seminar/ discussion on environment pollution & it’s remedy was
held at Netaji Club, Garjanmura which was presided over by Smt. Brajabala Debnath,
Pradhan, Garjanmura Gao Panchayat. Sri Debabrata Sukla Das, Scientific Officer of
Department of Science Technology & Environment (DST&E), South Tripura was present as
the chief guest of this programme. The chief guest made his discussion on what is pollution
& how it can be controlled. About 50 villagers were present in this programme. After that a
speech competition & a cultural programme were performed by the club members & local
people. A by-cycle rally was arranged on 6th July, 2002 in Hadra–Garjanmura–Shilghati,
Banduar, Shalgara-Hadra Battala area. About 30 people participated in this rally with
different posters. Besides these on 15th, 18th, 20th & 22nd July, 2002 they organized different

programmes on environment pollution & its remedy including seminar, speech & quiz
competition at Amtali Bazar, Nabajagaran Sangha situated at Hadra, Totabari, Shalgara
Bazar respectively . At last on 26th July, 2002 the closing ceremony was held at
Garajanmura High School. Sri Haradhan Debnath, teacher of this school presided over this
programme where as Sri Debabra Sukla Das, Scientific Officer, D.S.T&E, South Tripura was
present as the chief guest. At the end of this programme prizes were distributed among the
winners.
Netaji Brigade Social Welfare, Melaghar
Under the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-2002 programme, a
rally was organized on 11th July, 2002. At least 250 students of neighbouring schools
participated in this programme. On 14th July, 2002 they conducted different competitions like
sit & draw, essay & quiz competitions among the students at Melaghar Kalibari ground.
Hon’ble Mr. R. Das, Pradhan, Purba Melaghar Gram Panchayat inaugurated this programme
where as Mr. N. Chakraborty, Ex. A/T presided over this programme. The sit & draw
competition was held in three age groups where about 100 students participated.
AcharJya Jagadish Chandra Bose Briksha Mitra Sangha, Melaghar
During 30th June to 3rd July, 2002 a training programme was organized on
“Biodiversity conservation” at Sanjoy Ghose Training Institute & Research Complex,
Melaghar under “National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001 2002”. Mr. Rajat Gupta,
was present as the chief guest of this programme . In his speech he stressed on the
importance of organizing such type of training programmes. Mr. Ashish Kr. Saha delivered
his lecture on “Sustainable Development”. Mr. Subodh Ranjan Sur, Secretary of J. C. Bose
Biriksha Mitra Sangha, inspired the young generation to motivate the society for survival. Mr.
Narayan Saha, Teacher, discussed the different types of pollution and it’s effect on human
life. Mr. Atanu Saha, Forest Ranger mentioned that Tripura is one of the 12th Biodiversity
zone in the world and also discussed the different causes and remedies of forest
degradation in Tripura . Mr. S. S. Das reminded the different environmental incidents such
as Bhopal gas tragedy Chernobyl accidents, Chipko movement etc. Mr. Khokan Ghosh, R.
Gupta, Ms Monika Debnath, and S. N. Barman were also present as the resource persons.
They discussed on environmental Legislation, sound pollution, and soil degradation etc.On
4th July, 2002, a street drama was displayed at Maharani Bazar on water and Air Pollution.
Another street drama was also displayed at Nalchar Bazar on the necessity of plantation.
Sejuti Sanskritic Chakra
An awarness programme was organized at East R. K. Pur Girls High School on 7 th
May 2002. All the members of the society and the students of this school participated in this
programme .The resource persons present on that programme discussed the importance of
keeping the environment clean & green.In this programme different cultural activities
consisting of songs, dance, dramas, were performed by the students of this school. On 14th
May 2002, they arranged a vanomohotsav programme at Sejuti
Sanskritic Chakra &
Shamsanghat of Fulkumari . Many valuable plants such as neem, pine etc were planted on

this occasion. They also organized a “Safai Abhijan” from Sejuti Sanskritic Chakra to
Shamsanghat of Fullkumari. Large number of people of that area participated in that abhijan.
They also media ecological garden in front this society.
Organisation for Rural survival Belonia
An awareness campaign was organized among the rural women on 15th July, 2002
which was inaugurated by Mr. Dipankar Sen Chairperson of Belonia Nagar Panchayat. Mr.
Himangshu Roy, vice Chairperson, Dakshin Zilla Parisad took the chair as the resource
person. About 30Nos. of people participated in this camp. The resource persons discussed
about the activities launched by the women in previous days in India on environment like
CHIPCO movement etc. The programme was ended by planting trees in the surrounding of
Sishu Sangha Premises. Another awareness camp was held on 3rd August at Sachindra
Garo Coloney High School under convenership of Headmaster of this school. In this
campaign teachers & students of different school were present along with different club
members & few villagers. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Ratan Das, vice chairman
Panchayat Samiti, Bagafa R. D. Block in presence of some distinguished personalities. A
few days ago of the programme the organizing committee had conducted an essay & slogan
competition among the students of this school, the prizes of which was distributed in this
programme among the winners. When the programme was ended the dignitaries & students
planted about 100nos of plants in the school premises.
North East Village Development Society, Majlishpur
On 28th July 2002, North East Village Development Society organized an alochana
sabha on Air pollution at their office premises. The programme was presided over by Sri
Ramchandra Nath. Sri Jiban Debnath & Sri Goutam Gouala were present in this programme
as the chief guest . About 100 Nos of village people participated in this alochana sabha. Sri
Dijalal Das, president of this society delivered his lecture highlighting the importance of trees
on our life. At last the dignitaries along with the participants planted some valuable trees on
the surrounding of their office premises.
Indian Women’s Development Society , Agartala
Indian Women’s Development Society has organized a one day non-residential
seminar on “Pollution Control and Substantial Development” on 28th July,2002 at the
registered office of the society at A.D.Nagar. The programme was inaugurated by a senior
citizen of the locality Mrs.Tagar Haldar. There are about 50-60 participants who joined the
seminar & among them maximum were school & college students. Sri Dilip Paul, General
Secretary of Abalamban, Dr.Mantu Sarkar, president of Akhanda, Smt. Bharati Chakraborty,
a national awardee &Secretary of village Development team were present as the guest of
honour and they delivered their lecture on the above theme. On the same day at 2 P.M. a
vanamohotsava was also organized at A.D.Nagar Rd. No.11. About 50 nos of debdaru
plants and 50 nos other plants were planted in the both side of the road and in the ‘’Tagar
Park’’ which was developed by this society. Smt. Usha Choudhury, Smt. Tagar Haldar and
other senior lady citizen of the locality took part in the vanamohotsava. These trees were
also protected with bamboo fencing.

During 1st September to 6th September, 2002 the students & teachers of Manu H. S.
School planted various flower plants of different species in the garden of this school. A
student’s rally guided by teachers was organized on 9th September 2002 at Manubazar area
to aware the people about environment. A quiz competition on environment among the
students of classes IX –X of various schools was held at manu H. S. School. On 11th
September,2002 students of Manu Tahasil High School, South Kalapania High School,
Fulkumari High School, Satchand H/S School and from this institution participated in this
competition. On the same day a sit & draw competition in three groups was also conducted
in the premises of this school among the students of pre-primary to class VIII. About 60
students from different schools participated in this competition. On 12th September 2002 in
the prize giving ceremony the prizes of different competitions were distributed among the
winners. Besides these many posters showing key slogans to make our environment
properly livable were also pasted at different gram panchayat areas.
Bagafa Sahram H. S. School
As a part of the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001- 2002, the
students & Teachers of Bagafa Ashram H. S. School organized different programmes to
make the students & local people aware about environment. A rally was organized from
Bagafa Ashrarm H. S. School to Santirbazar with colourful festoons and slogans. All the
students, teachers & local people participated in this rally. A garden was made by the
students of this school in their school premises and various flower plants were planted. A
cleaning and Sanitation work was arranged by the students in a nearby village. Lastly a Quiz
Competition was held among the students of this school. Sri Rajendra Murasingha, Assistant
Headmaster of Bagafa Ashram H. S. School was presided over the programme. The prizes
were distributed among the winners of these competitions. The president in his valedictory
speech advised the students to keep the environment clean and green.
Amarpur H. S. School
During 9th August to 12th August 2002 students & teachers of Amarpur H. S. School
organized different environment awareness programme at Amarpur town & adjacent area
under the National Environment Awareness Programme 2001-2002. On 9th August, 2002 a
sit & draw competition among the students of class VI to VIII was held at 7 p. m. in the
premises of science center of this institution. On the same day at 11am a long rally was
arranged which travelled through the Amarpur town. In this rally the students displayed
various play cards containing slogans of environment awareness & meaningful drawings. In
the evening of 9th, 10th and 11th August, 2002 three street corners were organized at different
places of Amarpur town. The students of this institution performed street drama entitled
“Gaach Katiben Na – Pran Mariben Na” at motor stand, Netaji Corner& Madhya Bazar on
9th, 10th & 11th August 2002 respectively. They also planted various medicinal & other
seedlings in the school complex and other places of Amarpur town on 10th August 2002.
After that they prepared a flower garden and named it as “Garden NEAC”. On 10th August,
2002 students of different classes of this institution cleaned the Chandibari complex, Motor
Stand and school complex as a part of the cleaning programme. The closing ceremony was
held on 12th August 2002 where some dignitaries were remain present & discussed about
the significance of such awareness programme.

conservation of water was held among in two categories at KCP Class XII School. Poster
competition on rain water harvesting & Terrace cultivation among the students from class VI
to XII was also held on that day. On 3rd September, 2002 Volunteers of this school planted
about 80nos of trees at the premises of Rakrishna Sebak Sangha & Siva Temple. Two
seminars on “Water Elixir of life” were organized at Satnala High School & Durgaram Reang
Para Class XII School on 6th September, 2002. On the 7th September, 2002 a quiz & speech
competitions were conducted at this institution among the students of Durgaram Reang Para
Class XII School, Ramcharan C. P. High School, Rabindranagar High School, Santipur High
School and Kanchanpur Class XII School on different environmental topics. A colorful rally
with play cards was arranged among the students, teachers of different schools on 11th
September, 2002. The rally was started from Kanchanpur Class XII School and moved along
the all important roads of the Kanchanpur proper area. Finally the closing & prize giving
ceremony was held on 12th September, 2002 which was started with an opening song. The
Headmaster and other teachers of Kanchanpur Class XII School delivered their speeches
highlighting the significance of National Environment Awareness Campaign programme. The
programme was ended with the distribution of prizes among the winners of different
competitions by the Headmaster of Kanchanpur Class XII School.
Fulkumari S. B. School, Udaipur
On 24th April, 2002 the students of Fulkumari S. B. School, Udaipur made a flower
garden in the premises of their institution with the help of the teachers of this school. On 26 th
April, 2002 they organized a safai abhijan at Brammabari market. An art competition, essay
competition & Poetry competition were held among the students of this school on 29 th April,
2002 and prizes were distributed among the winners of these competitions in the prize giving
ceremony, held on 30th April 2002. On 4th May, 2002 another safai abhijan was arranged at
Fulkumari S. B. School complex. Finally on the 5th May 2002 an environment consciousness
programme was organized in this school where all the students teachers & the local people
participated.
Khowai Govt. Class XII School
On 31st July 2002 a seminar was organized at Purnima High School among the
students of this school. Around 500 students were present in this programme. Mr. J. L.
Sarkar, A. H. M , Khowai Govt. Class XII School & Mr. G. P. Dutta, Retd. Deputy Inspector
of Schools graced the progremme as president and chief guest respectively. Mr. J. L.
Sarkar, A. H. M, Mr. T. K. Sengupta, Assistant Teacher of Khowai Govt. XII School, Mr. M.
Dutta, Convenor, Science Club, Mr. D. R. Paul Headmaster in charge, Purnima High School
delivered their valuable speeches about sustainable development & other scientific aspects.
During 31st July to 5th August, 2002 a cleaning work was made by which 3 nos. of community
ponds, one shun are of North Durganagar under Khowai Nagar Panchayat & water
resources of the local area were cleaned distinctly . The work was done by the students
volunteers alongwith the members of Sanghati Club. On 6th August, 2002, a colorful rally
was arranged in which around 400 students took part to communicate the massage of the
theme of this year project i. e sustainable development. The rally was highly decorated with
several types of posters & festoons. A quiz contest & prize giving ceremony were held on
30th September, 2002 in the premises of Khowai Govt. Class XII School under the
chairmanship of Sri A. C. Chakma, Headmaster Khowai Govt. XII School. Sri J. L. Sarkar,

National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-02
AHM, of this Institutes was present as the chief guest. Six Nos. of team participated in the
quiz contest . They were awarded with the prizes. After this programme, science club
arranged a workshop on the view to enlighten the indigenous scientific culture for a better
tomorrow.
Tripura Rural Development Organization (Baboon Club)
As a part of the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-2002 they
organized a good nos of workshops/ seminars on safe drinking water at different rural areas.
Three nos of school level seminars were held at Telarban High School, Gabordi Class XII
School and Jampujijala Girls’s High School. Good nos. of students & teachers participated in
these programme . Two nos. of office level seminars were held at Jampuijala R. D. Block &
Takarjala sub jonal office, T.T.A.A.D.C. They also organized two nos of Panchayat level
awareness campaigns under Jampuijala R. D. Block.
Tripura Rural Development Society, Agartala
On 5th June, 2002 the World Environment Day was observed by organizing a sit &
draw competition among the children who were between 8 to 12 years at L. I. C. of India,
Agartala Branch No. 1. On the same day a workshop was also held. Mrs. Sampa Goswami,
Secretary, of this society gave welcome address to all the participants & guest. Mr. Sishir
Ray, advisor of this organization delivered a lecture on control of air pollution, protection of
tree and plantation. At last a prize giving ceremony was held & prizes were distributed to the
winners. On 5th July 2002 another workshop of “Sustainable Development” was organized at
Badharghat Girl’s Blind School, A. D. Nagar. In this programme the inaugural song was
performed by the students of this school. Dr. Santi Paul delivered a lecture on environment &
human body. Smt. Jaya Barman incharge of Blind School & Hostel gave importance on
keeping our sources of drinking water clean & protected in her speech. The programme was
ended with the plantation of trees in the Blind school & hostel area..
Hrishyamukh H/S School, Belonia
As a part of National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001 – 2002 different
competitions were organized among the students at Hrishyamukh H/S School on 12th
September, 2002. The competitions were held such as speech, quiz, art, word game, drama
etc. on environment. Students of different schools under the Hrishyamukh Block Nodal area
participated in these competitions. The prizes were distributed among the winners of these
competitions.
Kalikapur Nari Kalyan Samiti
Kalikapur Nari Kalyan Samiti organized an awareness campaign on 23rd July, 2002,
at Halflong Village High School. The students & local people participated in this campaign.
The Programme was inaugurated by the chief guest, Sri Ramendra Debnath, Hon’ble
Minister of Handloom, Handicrafts Department. Sri Hemgopal Sharma member of Uttar
Tripura Zila Parisad, Sri Diptendu Nag, Secretary of N. G. B. S., North Tripura & Headmaster
of this school were present as the special guests. They delivered their lecture highlighting
the importance of such awareness campaign.

National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-02
Khas Chowmuhani Class XII School
On 7th August, 2002 a gardening programme was organized at their school premises.
About 50 nos. of plants of different flowers were planted. On 8th August, 2002, an essay
competition and a poster making competition were conducted in two groups. The theme of
these competitions were water pollution & control & Environment awareness respectively. A
quiz competition was also conducted on 9th August, 2002 at their school premises on the
subject of Health, Sciences & Environment. On 24th August 2002, a seminar was organized
at their school premises at 12.00 O clock. The them of this seminar was “Aids Control &
Environmental Pollution Control” Mr. Nihar Ranjan Bhowmik, Assistant Headmaster of this
Institution presided over this programme. Dr. Jogesh Chandra Das, Project Director, Tripura
State Aids Control Society was present as the chief guest. Meanwhile, Mr. Monoranjan Das,
Retired teacher, N. C. Institution Sonamura and Mr. Gopal Das, Teacher-in-Charge Durlak
Narayan Class XII School were present as the Special guest. All the resource persons
delivered their valuable speech on the subject. After this the prizes were distributed among
the winners of different competitions.
Dakshin Amarpur Town High School
On 28th July a sit & draw and a poster competition were held at 8 A. M. in their
school premises among the students of class I to IV and Class Vi to IX respectively. Large
number of students have participated in these competition with great enthusiasm. On 29 th
July, 2002 a cultural programme was held at Thakeharra S. B. School and Rangamati Bazar.
A drama was played on “Environment Awarness’ by the students of Dakshin Amarpur Town
High School. In this programme the students and the teachers delivered their speech about
the significance of Environment Awareness. A cleaning programme was arranged on 29th
July 2002 in and around their school premises. Large number of students were participated
in this programme. On the same day a long rally was moved through school complex,
Chandibari and back to School to aware the people. A ‘plantation campaign’ was organized
at their school premises on 29th July, 2002. In this campaign various medicinal and other
seedlings were planted by the students and teachers. The closing ceremony was held on 1st
August 2002. Mr. S. M. Das, Chairman of Amarpur Nagar Panchayat presided over the
programme. The prizes of the competitions held during the ‘NEAC – 2002’ campaign over
distributed among the winners. Mr. Sunil Ch. Majumdar. Headmaster, Dakshin Amarpur
Town High School gave a lecture on Environment Awareness. The ceremony was ended
with the thanks and valedictory speech of the president.
Tripura State Pollution Control Board
Tripura State Pollution Control Board in association with Prabaha, Dhalai and St. Vincent
Welfare Society, Dhalai has organized the different awareness programmes under National
Environment Awareness Campaign. TSPCB in collaboration with Institute of Engineers
(India), Agartala Local Centre and four District Offices of ST&E celebrated the World
Environment Day-2002. Moreover TSPCB has conducted “Letter Writing competition on
Tripura State Pollution Control Board, Vigyan Bhawan, Agartala
National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-02
Enviornment” through All India Radio, Agartala. TSPCB has awarded the best letter writers.
TSPCB also conducted Sit & Draw Competition through Paschim Zilla Saksharata Samity at
Sukanta Academy in the morning of World Environment Day-2002. Tripura State Pollution
Control Board also mobilized all the 400 Eco Clubs to celebrate the World Environment Day.

Institute of Engineers (India), Agartala Local Centre under NEAC in association with TSPCB

Institution of Engineers (India), Agartala Local Centre has conducted a seminar to celebrate
World Environment Day-2002 at Music College Auditorium, Agartala. The Hon’ble Minster
for Science, Technology & Environment , Tripura inaugurated the seminar. He highlighted
the different environmental aspect in his inauguration speech. Sri G.K. Rao, Member
Secrertary, TSPCB and Sri S.K. Chakraborty, Honarary Secrertary, IEI, ALC also addressed
the seminar. Prof. B.K. Agarwal, Department of Life Science, Tripura University and Er.
Parveen Agarwal, IFS, Dy. Conservator of Forests, Department of Forests presented their
papers in the seminar. A News Letter (World Environment Day special) was circulated to all
the participants in the seminar. In the seminar, representatives of different NGOs working in
the field of environment, common people and students were present.
After the seminar, in prize distribution ceremony Tripura State Pollution Control Board
awared the prizes to the winners of Sit & Draw competition held in the morning of WED2002.
Prabaha Dhalai :
As a part of the National Environment Awareness Campaign 2001-2002, Prabaha Dhalai
organized different programmes during 5th June, 2002 to 14th July 2002 with the
collaboration of Tripura state Pollution Control Board. On 5th June,2002, the World
Environment Day was celebrated by organizing a rally with the students & local people. They
also conducted a seminar & oratory competition among the students. Lastly, a plantation
programme was organized at the two road sides of the Kulai area.
St. Vincent Welfare Society, Dhalai :
St. Vincent Welfare Society, in collaboration with Tripura state Pollution Control Board
organized different programmes under the National Environment Awareness Campaign
2001-2002. They celebrated the World Environment Day, 2002 on 5th June, with the
students & teachers of K.T.M.C. High School by planting trees. On that day they planted
some valuable trees like Debdaru, Neem,etc. in and around K.T.M.C. High School. During
12th & 13th July, 2002, they organized a two days awareness programme on Sustainable
Development at K.T.M.C. High School. About two hundred fifty students from class VI to X
participated in that Programme. The commandant of T.S.R. 8th Bn. Nepaltilla, the
commandant of CRPF 39th Bn. Nepaltilla outpost, Sri Pamesh Datta, teacher of K.T.M.C.
School were present as the Guest of Honour. The D.F.O, Manu inaugurated the programme
and delivered his lecture on Sustainable Development. The Secretary of the society
encouraged the students to be more active in environmental activities. The students actively
took part in that programme and presented some display and dances relating to the
environment. The programme was ended with the vote of thanks given by secretary of the
society.
