Director of Emergency Center - Linda D. Minton, RN, BSN, MS, NE-BC
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Responsible for maintaining EMS records as mandated by the hospital, Medical
Directors, and the State of Indiana Regulations. Will work closely with all EMS Medical
Directors, Emergency Center Medical Directors, and EMS services. Will serve as a
resource to all associated hospital and pre-hospital departments and agencies. May be
asked to participate in community projects, events, and educational programs.

REPORTING ACCOUNTABILITY:
1. Reports directly to Emergency Center Director of Nursing.
III.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Functions:
1. Demonstrates commitment to the quality philosophy and values of Floyd
Memorial Hospital by maintaining established policies and procedures,
organizational objectives, process improvement, and safety standards.
2. Demonstrates the Floyd Memorial CARE standards in all interpersonal relations.
3. Evaluates and revises the EMS Quality Improvement Program, policies,
procedures, and educational requirements/implementation as needed.
4. Schedules EMS in-services, chart audits and reviews as per state/county
requirements.
5. Coordinates all in-services with Clark Memorial Hospital.
6. Works closely with FMHHS Education department to coordinate, teach, and
maintain records as related to ACLS, PALS, BLS and PHTLS.
7. Investigates and resolves problems as needed.
8. Works closely with the Medical Directors of each service and other governing
bodies such as the Health Department, EMS commission and county
governments.
9. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates EMS educations offerings in

cooperation with other instructors and available resources.
10. Serves as a resource and liaison for all hospital and pre-hospital personnel on
EMS issues or concerns.
11. Assists or conducts EMS training activities including PALS, ACLS, BCLS, and
EMT/Paramedic Training.
12. Coordinates schedules for all EMS related clinical hours with FMHHS Education
department. Communicates closely with hospital community education
coordinator.
13. Creates and oversees an audit committee and its activities.
14. Compiles and reports on diversion hours monthly. Submits diversion report to
Director.
15. Prepares information and standards for the renewal of Supervising Hospital
Certification every two years as well as successful completion of state inspections
and audit of records.
16. Reports trends/issues in EMS personnel practice to appropriate EMS Medical
Director/designee.
Other Job Functions:

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Well lit, temperature controlled office environment. May include some travel between
hospital(s) and EMS services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education/Experience Requirements:
1. Current practicing paramedic in Indiana or Kentucky. (May obtain reciprocity
for Indiana certification if only Kentucky certified).Reciprocity will be waived
if National Registry certified.
2. Current certification in ACLS, PALS, BLS, PHTLS or BTLS. Instructor
certification in any or all a plus.
3. >5 years experience as paramedic.
4. Teaching experience necessary. Supervisory experience helpful.
5. Organizational skills, ability to work to deadline, respond efficiently and
appropriately to requests from customers.
6. Excellent customer service skills.
B. Physical and Mental Requirements: (percentage of work day)
1. Physical requirements: Standing 10%, walking 10%, sitting 80%, talking
75%, push/pull/lift/carry 10%. Stoop/kneel/crouch 10%. Reaching with
arms/hands 50 %. Lifting up to 15lbs. 10%. Visual & hearing acuity 100%.
2. Repetitive motion/action: use of hands 90%. Grasping simple/light 80%.

Grasping firm/heavy %5. Fine dexterity 90%.

EXPOSURE RISK: Category III
Tasks that involve no contact with blood body fluids or tissues. The normal work routing
involves no exposure other than contact that can be made anywhere at anytime by
anyone.
