QAA recognised Access to HE Diplomas consist of 60 credits, 45 of which are graded at
Pass, Merit or Distinction from level 3 academic subject units. The remaining 15 credits are
ungraded. No additional credits beyond 60 can be awarded from 2014-15 onwards. Access
Diplomas are graded at unit level only and there is no overall grade. For further guidance see

Access students are often on a steep learning curve, usually pursuing their course over one
year, and are not allowed to resubmit work to improve individual unit grades. A second more
detailed reference can be provided early in the Spring Term, once the student has submitted
a greater volume of work for assessment. For specific information relating to this specific
