Ouachita County and Camden, AR to host the
CIVIL WAR SESQUICENTENNIAL WEEK
APRIL 14th-19th 2014
Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Poison Spring and the
Occupation of Camden AR during the Civil War
Camden, AR – The week of April 14, 2014, Ouachita County and
Camden AR will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Union
occupation of Camden, Arkansas and the Battle of Poison Spring. All
scheduled events will be free to the public.
Following is a complete list of events and details:
Civil War Exhibit
Mon. April 14th – Sat. April 19th 9am-4pm
Location: Leake-Ingham Building next to the historic McCollum Chidester house

“Letters from the Civil War” presented by the Tates Bluff Chapter DAR
Monday April 14th 6:30pm
Presented Costumed re-enactors will share the experiences of the inhabitants of Camden during
the Civil War on the outdoor stage at historic Postmaster’s Grill.
Location: on the outdoor stage at the Postmaster’s Grill downtown Camden

Free Movie Screening of “GLORY”
Tuesday April 15th 6:30pm

“Living History”
Friday April 18th 9am-5pm & Saturday April 19th 9am-12noon
Costumed re-enactors will tell the stories of families who lived through the occupation. Visit with
the soldiers and learn of the life of a soldier during the war. Location will be on Washington Street
and California Avenue in Camden. Troops will be camped on Washington Street near homes that
were occupied during the war.
Location: Troops of re-enactors will be camped along historic Washington Street in Camden.
Battle of Poison Spring Civil War Re-enactment
Saturday April 19th 2pm
Come commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Poison Spring with us. Union and
Confederate forces will be conducting a battle upon the historic battleground.
Location: Poison Spring Battleground State Park
on Highway 76 in Chidester, AR.

Closing Ceremonies
Saturday April 19th 6pm
Come to Coleman Stadium in Camden, AR to close the Sesquicentennial of the Battle of Poison
Spring with your friends and family. The closing ceremony will include choirs, presenting music
of the Civil War, speakers and a commemoration to the soldiers who lost their lives at the Battle of
Poison Spring.
